- Samsung lost to Apple for the first time in 14 years when it comes to smartphone shipments for the entire year. This means Samsung is no longer the reigning champion of the smartphone world. That coveted title has now shifted to their long-standing rival, Apple.

Selling the same phone every year with a new name for 5 years in a row , no ai features no high refresh rate and telephoto lens for a phone costing 800 dollar (1100 dollar in my country) and still being on the top . People have lost their mind I guess.

@@redda2it's not really expensive when you look at what you are getting. $1200 for a phone packed with features and new hardware is worth the price tag, not u like Apple who sell the same phone with the same crap every year with a new name.
iPhones are a status symbol to some people, nothing can convince them to switch no matter what the other brands can bring on the table.
To be honest, Samsung is trying to save money by putting inferior Exynos and no one in their mind would ever pick an Exynos version.

Apple has always been a status symbol (not just iphones). The way they priced their devices attracted a lot of audience that are into tech. They wanted to show off to their friends that they have the most expensive in the market. I even have a close friend who wants to borrow my credit card and that she will pay me in 12 months installment just to get an iphone. What a joke!

I mean being the top smartphone for 12 years is already an achievement given the number of smartphone companies. iPhones are iOS only while Android has multiple companies so given that Samsung became the top for years is a huge feat.
Marketing, marketing, marketing. People want the iphone because they want to be "in", thinking Apple makes the best phones. I used to be a iphone fanatic until Apple started to implement a lot of shady decisions.

Samsung needs to stop releasing too many unnecesary phones in the mid low range category and support better and for longer few phones. Any S / Note flagship phone of the last 3-4 years, which you can even find under £/€/$ 300 is better all around than any in the A, M, F series in that same period of time but those mid low rangers released in the last 2 years will still get 2-3 more years of OS updates and security patches unlike those flagship phones. It's flooding the market with way too many unnecessary phones. It's good to have options and that strategy might have worked 3-4 years ago but not now. It's just too much.

I agree. They need to slim line their line up especially in A, F, & M series. They have too many variants of these mid to low tier phones.
They also need to have a 1.5 tb option as they make those micro sd cards too. The new 1.5 came out in sept 2023 amd the S24 came out a few months later.

I think main problem with samsung is not opening dedicated samsung store. I cant find any samsung store in canada here. Having a dedicated store like apple can give whole new experience for consumers to experience their devices. Moreover, you will have a place where you can go for samsung phone repairs. This is the main reason ig samsung is not so dominate in north american market at-least.
I agree, I live in Michigan have a few Apple stores near me but not a single Samsung store. Consumers in NA never get the hands on experience with Galaxy devices
I totally agree. Berlin is the only place in Germany that has the Experience Centre, and their customer service is so poor. I was this close to switching, and now I'm thinking about going with Apple for a while.
people love buying apple products for the experience and it makes sense. Walking out of the Mall store with my 16 inch mac book pro was a amazing feeling instead of it getting it deliver to my front door.

This is making me sad, many people here just takes iPhones for showoff and use it ~5% of features(social media, call, messaging,...) But where as majority of Samsung(S) choose mostly because of features, many other factors.

Samsung should stop selling mid-range phones when the S24 series gets closer to mid-range price levels after 3-4 years. A 3-year-old flagship with 4 years of OS updates left is much better value than a new mid-range phone with 3-4 years of OS updates.
That's what Iphone is doing. People who've got iPhone 10 some how is barely going to choose Samsung but newer iPhone. If not iPhone 15 but atleast 13 and be happy as it will receive updates untill iPhone 18 minimum..

Samsung should really improve their midrange or should stop selling midrange. Comparing to chinese oem samsung midrangers are nowhere near to them they should just focus on flagships or they should improve their midrange phones

@jdsd_ Well i have the A34 which its very good but not satisfied at all with the processor its a very midrange processor mediatek 1080 they couldve added to the A54 snapdragon 855 atleast from the S21 Ultra its been 3 years since then i wouldbe bought the A54 instead the A34 since exynos its way worse than snapdragon or mediatek
@@AppleHead__ Well, the A34 is a low end phone, so its obviously not going to have more than a midrange processor. And I dont think that they will EVER add a Snapdragon to a midrange phone and that makes total sense, because the profit margin on midrange phones is already pretty small, if they would have to buy a third party processor it would not be profitable enough, so they use their own Exynos processor. And we should not forget, that the A34 and A54 are VERY affordable phones for what they offer, I just bought a new A54 for my grandparents for 320€ one year after release. The price-performance ratio on this phones is exceptionally good.

I argue its because people arn't upgrading as much anymore on Android. Unlike Iphones most Samsung buyers keep their phones for atleast 2-3 years while Iphone buyers think they have to have the new model every years despite the fact the Iphone 15 is just a disguised Iphone 14 pro.
Samsung would've retained their position had they not entered into the Apple's price territory.
Normal would prefer buying an iPhone at the same price range as that of Samsung.
No matter what we know about the tech, final product is result and the pricing too.

I've been a long time galaxy note user. But in my country, both s24U & iPhone 15pro (not max) are priced closely. That is leading the people into confusion and hence into buyiny an iPhone.

I have one myself and i think they are pretty good but not good enough to outperform the best phones. They have to run smoother and get more premimum features and try to keep the price low to omtimize the sales

very well put. People loved Samsung when they put out feature-packed phones that others simply didn't make. But now, Samsung is following the Apple way, and I don't think anyone loves Samsung the way they used to before - they just continue to LIKE them because they make decent phones, and of course, other products.
Back then, Samsung made phones that had EVERYTHING the market offered AND more, but now, it's more or less just the android iPhone.

As a company as well as smartphone, apple and iPhone has clear edge over other smartphones, 9 out of 10 top selling smartphones are iPhone,the 1 remaining is Samsung,and that is not even Samsung top end or mid-range line-up,in 2023 was, it was that cheap 250$ samsung that looked similar to their flagship People have more trust on iphones.and have that "superior and premium" picture too. Thats why wide majority of the phone buyers thinks about iPhone's as the first choice. Tech illiteracy is another reason.
May be because non pro models are now cheaper in India. Today most people want iPhone only. And this will grow on, may be in 2-3 years ios will be 20-30% almost 5x ,and in 10 years Android will be extinct 😂with increasing income

Why, it’s simply a preference. I bought an s24u and I ended up returning it. iOS just worked better for me.
Its going to continue to plummet as samsungs residual hardware advantage drops with each yearr as they update almost nothing with each new phone. Thats also the only reason theyre still somewhat holding on because they used to be so good but so good 5 years ago isnt so good today.

Im pretty sure if Samsung brought back expandable storage and a headphone jack to their flagship phones, people would buy it more. IMHO. I felt the difference moving from my S10+ to my S24U. Both the good and the bad.

Expandable storage yes, AND the IR Blaster. The headphone jack though? I used to really want that back too, but not anymore. Now that they have usb-c to headphone cord I don't miss it.

Their Exynos 2400 still cannot beat SD, but it's improved a lot, however it is not optimized even if you compared the photos taken from SD variant to exynos, SD is still better in image processing and battery performance too, the battery drain from exynos was slightly faster than the SD counter part.
Exynos is pretty snappy on the A53, and that's a midrange. It's always and only the camera app that opens slow, I wonder why.
My guess is whoever buys an Apple device has enough money to keep replacing their phone every one or two years while Samsung's large sale volumes also come from mid rangers and there people won't replace their phone every year or 2 years. So there people may have last replaced their phones a long time ago

AND when I tried to get the S23 Ultra why the heck did I have to get it from Amazon Germany.....every time I called one of our stores they tried to dissuade me from getting it (preorder it but it may take a long time) so I took a risk and got it anyway. As I said from Germany where it was friggin cheaper and I had a choice of colours and cases....don't get me started!!!! Yeah my cases and screen protector all come from some site and not a local store. And did I mention I go in blind....what I knew about the S23 Ultra all came from you guys!!!!! It's not as if I can go and see one for real with people really interested in selling me the phone.
Nah, Samsung dropped the ball with the pricing & aftersales support strategy of their flagship devices. Samsung parts and repair costs are ridiculously high and this has seriously led their customers to try other android flagships from Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo etc and these Chinese players are playing around
I think it's because all the iPhone 15 series use a pill hole and the Pro/Max series uses type C. And it's possible that people or teenagers will choose the iPhone 15/15+ which is cheaper than the higher series.And they can still feel the dynamics island

The problem is the smartphone boom of the mid 00's is long gone. No manufacturer is ever going to see those sales figures again and therein lies the devil in the detail, because it's less about the quality of a product driving sales these days; rather, it is milking the units sold for all they are worth with services. Also, since premium brands unanimously bumped costs up to 1k or over, they can recoup losses compared to the old expectations. With this said, it is only when a brand such as Samsung and apple have their bottom line threatened do they actually put effort in to deliver with a product worth your money and worthy of being considered a next gen leap. The s24 and iPhone 15 series are seriously weak and thin on reasons to get one over last year. Hell, I went from a S10 to s23 ultra and was barely noticing anything drastic.
Samsung is off to a good start with the s24 lineup. There is no huge drop off in quality from the ultra to the s24. Have the s24+ and I ❤️ it.
I personally am not surprised and am kinda glad it happened. Samsung wants so bad to be apple, but what they dont realise is that not being apple was one of the reasons many would buy them. They were so many features that made them unique and literally no one ever complained about or asked them to remove.
Micro Sd card, ir blaster, charger in the box (and they even cheap out with the included cable) and even with all those things removed they still are unjustifiable price increases.
Samsung in an effort to copy apple even more decided to use titanium which literally only reduced weight by 1 gram and is harder to cool and in reality no one can tell the difference.
They also copied the 5x lens and removed the only true advantage they had in this space. While it can match the 10x in quality sometimes because of improved sensor, i still think a better move would have been to keep it at 10x with the improved sensor. I mean why even have a 200mp sensor if we can't even have lossless 3x zoom into? Pure marketing nonsense. Which is the next problem i have with them.
And the thing is android itself is becoming more restricted with every new version and honestly at times i feel ios is now just as customizable (but still not as much freedom)

What? Apple has followed in Samsung's footsteps for years starting from upgrading their screens through larger screens like Samsung did at the beginning. Remembered Tim Cook stated that he would never upgrade the screen past 3 and 1/2 or 4 in? What happened? Fingerprint sensor much better. Screen is much better. Flash storage is much better. Nobody cares about benchmarks and Samsung phones have showed they could go toe to toe or even surpas Apple phones

This 100% they made good phones, until the s10 from there all went downhill relatively, now they follow the trend like along with most others.
Do not get me wrong i still prefer a samsung(becuz of android and sum features) over an iphone but yeah, disappointing.
I think Samsung needs to remove the S pen and make the phone 100 USD cheaper than Apple and also try to open more stores in NA to get more customers

Most sold Samsung devices are mainly budget devices. But nowadays Samsung budget devices are the worst value devices you can get at that price range. And people who seeks budget devices do not wish to get the charger separately. So Samsung dug themselves in this one by copying apples strategies.
I kinda expect 2024 results will be different, as far as we know the iphone 15 isn't selling well compared to 14,13 specially in china, and we also know that s24 series outsolded the s23 with a big difference, let's see what will happen

Hi Sal. I like my S23 Ultra. I read that ONE UI 6.1 is going to bring circle search, magic with picture and live translation to S23 series. That huge.I also read info about Qualcomm possibly 2nm CPU in two years. Sounds great.

the main reason why Apple is the best selling smartphone company is that if someone wants to by an iOS device, the only option for them is an iPhone. But if someone wants to buy an Android phone, he has a lot of options infront of him. he can buy Samsung, Pixel, One Plus, Vivo, Oppo, Nothing, and the list goes on... so statistically, Apple will definitely have the upper hand in the best selling smartphone.

Samsung losing out to Apple was a writing on the wall that all of us loyal fans started making with S20 series in 2020 and it cemented further with S21 (2021). They were just copying Apple's strategy by removing the headphone jack and MicroSDXC card slot. And you can't get very far ahead by copying. Now that Apple has also got USB type C port , blazing fast performance thanks to the Swift language (Objective C) vs JAVA. Apple has always been ahead in terms of videography. Still images aren't a huge lead for either brand. So this upset was bound to happen. Samsung had always been more of a rival alternative to Apple if you wanted Android and the above mentioned now RARE features.
For the consumers this doesn't mean much. As long as Android is an alternative I'll be fine, it doesn't matter if it's Samsung, Sony, Oneplus or any other brand
Update: Samsung took back its crown 👑 in the year 2024.
Samson has to do a lot better with their warranty. People are not willing to be without their phones while Samsung fix on their phones. Or you send a phone to Samsung and they claim that it got lost and they tell you there's nothing they can do.

I think that Apple controlling everything Apple, makes the difference. Chip manufacturing (their design made via TSMC), software, their updates to everyone at once etc. Samsung, and I love my S24+, relies on someone to make all the parts including software, to get a phone put together. Updates are sporadic, thanks to Android etc. Google's trying, but they had some hiccups early on with the Pixel 8/Pro with updates etc. Apple seems to nail it, minus the software bugs of late with iphone 14 and 15. But they fix it immediately...I've got an iPhone 15PM also, but get bored with it because I like to "fiddle" around with my phones. Apple locks you into that home screen grid, Android lets you put your apps anywhere on the homescreen etc...Pick your poison I always say...
I mean Samsung literally removed almost everything that made them awesome in the first place - IR blasters, headphone jacks, SD Cards, etc. When phones have the same things to offer less people will want to stay with one brand over another. I love my Note9 and won't change it in the foreseeable future but I am sad Samsung turned into what it currently is. Oh yes, the S Pen is on the wrong side too.
Not to mention removable battery.

True but there's so much more than that. Apple has a really strong brand images to some it's a status symbol, mass people who aren't that aware on tech buy Apple thinking they got the best phone ever and once they got in the Apple ecosystem Apple will make sure to keep them in there living in their own safe bubble where other brands seems inferior to them.
Simply offering headphone jack and SD card don't affect sales much...as a Sony Xperia 1 mk ii user trust me Sony and Sharp still offer this feature among other awesome things you'd want on paper on their flagship phone yet sales anywhere else other than Japan still suck.

When I buy a phone, I want it to last at least 3~5 years. I bought a Galaxy S20+. 2 months after I got it out of the box, it's back glass got loose (it was supposed to be waterproof) and again, 2 months after, I got a green line in my screen. That's not an isolated issue. Samsung has been showing sistematic quality issues (battery , screens, body) for a long time and its finally taking a bite of it's costumer share.
Only other phone id get besides iphone is Sony Xperia Pro-i 2 but it’s taking forever to come out.

Most people have been asking Samsung to widen the outter display on the fold for the past 4 years, but they refuse to do it.
And no one asked for Exynos chipsets either, yet still they did it. All these things definitely put a negative impact on sales

i think apple and samsung need to updat their design's every two years.
there is something in being seen as having the new phone. when the new 22ultra design was out i could see it and wanted it. now i would not be abel to tell at a glance if it was the 22 23 or 24ultra.
there is some value in being able to be seen as having the new toy.
Samsung only sold more units of smartphones for the last 10-12 years. However in terms of NET PROFIT, Apple made more than all the other manufacturers combined. Quantity of smartphones sales is totally irrelevant

Apple's marketing and the aspiration of that product made it happen. Every typical guy in India wants an apple iphone. (I don't find it as aspirational as Ultra)
Though the market is marketed, people with poor income are opting for an iPhone instead of a budget phone, just out of the insecurity, they want to look cool and rich, which is bad though... But it is it.
Although I have seen Ultra sales are increasing in such a manner too. People who are not earning even a penny are opting for Ultra.

Yes, apple has successfully penetrated the third world countries with the hype of looking cool or rich but it is not a sustainable business model because this same users cannot afford yearly upgrades or cost of fixing a broken iPhone. This is a short-term win as the market is saturated.
this is good news for me since i recently converted to iPhone from pixel 8 pro. If I ever go back to android it will likely be a Samsung phone since they are the kings of android and make great phones, but then again if google pixel can dump their dogwater tensor chips made from samsungs crappy chips id try another pixel phone someday in the future if they where good enough.

Was an iPhone user my last iPhone being a iPhone x i then made the switch to Samsungs note 10 plus 5g never looked back since was hard to switch but its worth it

Increasing the battery isn't always a good thing. How long the battery last all comes down to the new hardware as well.
@DarkMagician281 it depends how well the os is and one ui is good but magic os is better I mean look at the honor magic 5 pro with 8gen2 and 5100 mah it destroyed both the s23 ultra and 15pm in battery drain test and the magic 6 pro will come with 5600 mah silicon carbon battery and 8gen3 so in my opinion it's time for Samsung and apple to step down

The new iPhone 15 Pro Max is the worst IPhone i had so far, it overheats during Charging & Discharge, its no longer unbreakable if it’s accidentally bent etc etc…….Apple has always been outstanding in quality control before new products were released but this time something went wrong. I spent $1500 for an IPhone of lesser quality than my previous IPhone 13 Pro. I only hope that the people from the Apple Store can give me a phone which is not a lemon 😔

Apple is a joke status symbol that offers garbage price-to-feature ratios in their phones because they know their ignorant customers will buy them anyway. I can't imagine paying $800 for a phone that doesn't even have a 120hz display in 2024. Much less how strict and controlled their OS is, no sideloading or anything, I could never. Doesn't matter how much Samsung or any other android brand innovates and brings forth new features, its all a "gimmick" until Apple does it.. 🤦♀️
