The cables could be hidden in a bike pump on the seat tube with the internals removed. Just a thought. Nice stealth build!!!

Great video. I'm seriously considering installing this kit on one of my bikes. I already have 3 factory ebikes, but for a while now I've wanted to do my own ebike conversion. The Proton looks to be a very good choice.

I finished my photon build for a specialized sirrus 2.0, and I love it… very smooth ride. I use it w a 48V battery.

Yeah Photon! Hope you are loving it! I just installed mine last week and took it for some trails and I'm loving it! I'm running a 52V 8AH battery due to limited space on my bike triangle (small frame), but have ordered another. Strange about the hesitation issue, but play around with the settings a bit to see if it helps. I'm still adjusting the settings on mine, trying to get the sweet spot and also found that I have to change the way I ride slightly to get more out of the motor. Still at very initial stages of testing though, but the motor is sweet!

Settings helped, I suspect a decent battery from a more reputable company may help even more. But yes, really enjoying it. My car has been collecting dust lately.

Well I love classic simple built bike, this is the joy of DIY, it's uniquely so. I finished mine in February, and I agree with you, I got the 50T chainring and it is perfect, and matched with a 11/46 9 speed cog I can climb hills the way I like with no problem, let alone hit a top speed at 35 mph while pedaling in level 3 boost in race mode. I am running a 52v with 20 amp battery, which is kind of nice to go the distance. I installed the Photon on a Giant OCR Touring frame that came with disc brake tabs back in 2003, and I am using a Marzocchi 29'er fork on it, and a Rockshox seatpost with a modified spring and elastomer damping. And using cyclocross rims I can use road tires "Continental Ride Tour 700 x 35c" for the streets or cyclocross tires for trail riding. I am using spyke TRP mechanical disc with 203mm disc in the front and back 180mm disc, which stops crazy good for mechanical disc brakes. And so what I will say is that there is nothing more thrilling than riding a road bike at speed that will handle the bumps like a mountain bike. Kind of fun. The torque sensor on the Photon is exactly what I wanted on a mid-drive, it kicks in right when you first take off and it only supports how hard you are pedaling, more effort more speed.

    Nice build. 👍
I'm thinking of also going for the 'stealth' look when I turn my Giant Escape commuter bike into an ebike.
The Photon looks to be a good choice, and I like that you adjusted the motor so the pedals are the same distance from the frame. I'm wondering if this will cause chain crossing issues.
I hope you do an update video when you get everything sorted out and go for a long test ride.

Cool build! I'm considering a similar build on m 2010 Specialized Roubaix. I like the stealth route. It's a small thing but I noticed the Mavic Ksyrium Elite wheels. I've got a set of SSCs on my roadbike. Excellent wheels, never need any maint and incredibly light and strong. Enjoy!

I just finished my Photon install last week. I've got 80 miles on it so far and the battery is still over 50 volts(48V battery), I suspect it will reach 150 miles or more. I'm considering getting a smaller battery for regular riding and my big battery for touring. It should not be cutting out though, that may be the small BMS you have on that battery, I think. My next build will probably be my fatty bike.

That’s impressive. I’m lucky to get 15km (~9 miles out of mine). Will be upgrading batteries for sure. For now I’m just stuffing my charger into the bag if I have a longer trip and charging at my destination before I come home.

Became easier to justify when I did the math on tolls and parking I’d save. And I wasn’t riding to work before the conversion as I didn’t like getting to work sweaty.

@@BikeHacker-um2fu Nice yeah in your scenario it makes sense. I also don't like getting sweaty heading to work. Last summer i rode my electric scooter to and from work. Still eventually would be cool to do something with my old bike

So how well do your caliper brakes work for you with all the extra power? I've got disc tabs for front fork conversion however the rear stays do not have disc tabs so wondering how a V-brake will suffice in the rear.

Just so you know, people like actual human voice narrated videos 100x more than subtitled videos, and about 10x more than computer voiced videos. If you really want to make videos, you'd do well to just lend your voice to them.

What happened with the motor cutting out?

    • @BikeHacker-um2fu
      @BikeHacker-um2fu  Рік тому +1

It’s me & my poor pedalling. It happens when I let my cadence drop too low and when I only push down on the pedals, creating a big dead spot. If I try to pedal more smoothly (in a circle, not just up and down), or just select my gears to stay at a higher cadence, it doesn’t drop out anymore.

25km/h default in Street mode, adjustable to 32km/h, my current setting. Can be made unlimited in Race mode, I think.
Edit: the limit is just where the motor stops helping. You can definitely go faster, just have to pedal harder.
