I genuinely love the fact that your company is so very active on UA-cam. I just love love love all of your products, even though my car isn't something you would put an Armytrix system on. Do you have a Twitter page? Thanks.
This car is a challenge in that it already has such an awesome sports exhaust option. I just test drove a 570s and it was sizzling. But, I can't wait to hear what you do, if you do it. I think I may have asked before, but can you plz make a Chevy SS exhaust?! It's so hard to find an exhaust for that car that doesn't sound like a raspy fart.
it's better than the porsche. ...it looks better , sounds better , drives better (maybe not as fast ),has better interior as well......it's just more substantial than a 911 turbo s..
This car makes quite much sense when you think of average owner. The car that I am really waiting is 911 Safari edition.(more suspension travel and rally styling for 911)
I love this guy, he has a very Top Gear-y vibe to him and I love the episodes with him. It's quenching my Top Gear thirst while I wait for the Grant Tour to come back.
Alex G. great review as always you provide a very informative automotive conversation. I am going to put you on the spot, being you have probably driven them all; what would your opinion of the 570GT, Ferrari's 488GTB or the Porsche 911 GTS....? Which do you think is an easier car to live with for a 60 year old couple as a short vacation or weekend cruiser with carry on suitcases, or are these not suitcase friendly? Thank you
570 definitely over the 911 Turbo/Turbo S. I do love the 911 but it doesn't come with the same drama such as the doors of the 570. The 570 looks like a supercar whereas the 911 blends in like any other Porsche on the road. That's not a bad thing though. Also, the McLaren badge is far more exclusive.
Nobody has mentioned the gargantuan side sill you've gotta climb over in any of the modern McLarens. Yes they've made it easier in this model but you're never gonna look graceful hopping in and out. I love these guys reviews and I think they do a brilliant job but I'm noticing a trend (across the car review board not just here) and I wish people would be less in awe of the cars they're testing and actually pick them apart, they're not marketing tools, they're critics. Shoulda listed the negatives mentioned. They're important if you're looking to buy a car over 100k. Too many critics worried about not getting invited back? :P Old Ferrari Cali for example, horrendously sluggish while moving slowly, crap gearbox, crap satnav/info system etc etc etc. New ones are better apparently but you don't here any real moans like does the hand brake still hold on too long when you come to a stop?! Every day driving these things are important. It almost doesn't matter how good 95% of these cars are on a track because 95% of people won't go to one.
Valid comment, but it seems to be the way of things everywhere - even when journos have the best intentions. Problem is that when you write about the types of things you mention, you end up with WhatCar or AutoMotor& Sport, where cars win group tests because they have the lowest loading lip and the best windscreen washers. Also, you need to live with a car to really know it, and new car events are usually a few hours in some exotic location where everything's on a tight schedule. I agree with you, though.
I know man, I don't wanna watch a review of boot space either but when a car is being advertised as an almost every day, GT more user friendly sports car then things like "can the average person get in and out of it easily without clambering around" become more important :P I've never seen an i8 review were the person reviewing it actually gets in or out. Clarkson certainly didn't on TG. The cars f'in terrible to jump in n out of for anyone that's remotely larger or slightly less mobile. I can jump in and out of it but there's no way I would be happy with it if it was a daily car. If it's not a daily car then why bother goin hybrid?! Ya nah mean?! haha it's these little things as a car enthusiast and as someone who spends way to much time looking into what car to buy next & what to aim for in the future and what can used used daily & what can be used daily but shouldn't be :P. My dads been looking to change his F Type and I've been helping him look around and there's so many cons to some of the cars around and over the 100K that it makes it really really really hard to make a choice. Especially when you've had a car that sounds as good and runs as smoothly and reliably and looks as good as the F Type, why spend that extra money is the main question?! Anyways I'm rambling man, I really enjoy these videos but sometimes there's things that people who are buyin them need to know and I think the biggest draw back for usability of any McLaren at the moment are the "AFC Sills" as our friend rightly educated me on. The Ferrari's, Porsche's, Jag's of this world don't suffer from that problem. Seems to just be all the cars made with carbon tubs, you gotta fall into them like bath and get step ladder to get out :D
Funny you mention the i8. My Dad was mad for one, but, as you say, he could barely get into it and then couldn't get out once he was in. My brother is 6'3" and he could hardly manage it either. Both of them ended up coming out of the car with their hands on the road and with their feet flailing around on the dash like a pair of spastics. It was a fine comedy moment, tbh.
haha same, me and the salesman both had to help lift my dad out. One of the most redinkydonk cars to get in n out of, or park anywhere or basically try and use like a normal... or even a sports car :P
do you think this would be fair to compare to a v12 vantage s? I mean i totally can't afford either, but if I had money for this, I'd be strongly considering the Aston too.
I saw both the 570 & 650 in person, along with Huracan, and the 570 is noticeably more ugly than the other two. When I spend this kind of money, I would expect a car that's at least decent looking.
Shin Ken i wouldn't get the 650, because of anything people who has the 675 LT will make you feel jealous But if i had money i would go for either the R8 v10+ or the AMG GTS I do prefer the understated and subtle sleeper look The only problem i have with this one is its not great looking despite being subtle Buuut like i said the looks are definitely growing on me
When you ask should you get this or a 911 Turbo S, for me it comes down to looks. This has more of the futuristic, exotic, super car look like the other Italian cars, whereas the 911 has more of a classic refined look. Where I'm from you can see a 911 any day, but a McLaren would really turn heads.
The question I always ask myself is: Do the camera's do the (exhaust)noise any good? Because with some cars I have heard in real life, well, they sound quite different to al the videos I have seen of them.
Ha grip.!!!!! All very well testing this car in sunny lands on smooth roads but what would the grip be like in the wet on norma road? Now there's a challenge for you? By the way its a great looking sports car
Actually love the gist of this car, really cool that McLaren decided to not only do ultimately fast but not comfortable cars but add one that is comfortable.
As soon as you started speaking, I thought of the 911 Turbo S. Luckily, you brought it up in this review. And very appropriate that you do! So which is better... tough choice.
He just finished saying it a bit tamer and doesn't provide that urgent ground swell of acceleration a Turbo S does, then at the very end he days it ludicrously fast. I'm a bit confused, looks like I'm going to hang on to my '02 Turbo X50 a bit longer :-)
Guys, I know they're not in the same category, but considering cruise capability, finish details at the interior and overall driving experience (and looks), would you get the 570GT or the California T?
Personally I would take the GT, it feels more special and more of a proper car. I love both the interior and exterior the California T just does not have that supercar exterior look.
Eh, at the end of the day, all of Mclarens cars since the 12c have basically just been improvements on that, not that it hasn't stepped it up every time, but you can't help but feel they will do a large change sometime soon.
Alex Should be the main presenter for the new Top Gear!! Along with Sam from Seenthroughglass, Paul from Supercars of London and a new fourth presenter, James from MrJWW.
Even if it's slightly lower performing than a 570S, it's not like most supercar owners pushes the limit of their supercar unless they're reckless. Replace the P Zeros on the GT with super sticky Trofeo or Corsas and you'd get most of that rawness back. I'm surprised the California T or R8 weren't also worth cross shopping.
Love the look way better than the S, hopefully they redesign the S to look the same and just give customers the choice of the S, C, or GT across the same body style.
As much as I would like the 570 to be a little softer for longer drives, there's no way I'd want to daily it, it's simply not easy enough to get in and out of and im not 65, I'd go with the 911 turbo if I wanted a daily supercar.
Not to mention the plummeting residuals, dreadful reliability, shockingly poor build quality. And to rub salt in the wounds there are rumours Mclaren dealers are reluctant to buy them back from owners for resale. Beggars belief. However, if I had more money than sense I'd have one in a heart beat. 😊
Spend 70k on a 1 owner Maserati GranTurismo with under 10k miles if you want a great looking, amazing sounding daily....this is a waste... 570s is sick, this is dumb.
The GT is like 3% slower than the S, lol... effectively its the same car with a broader market to sell more units. And, lots of supercar owners do actually drive them almost every day especially now that they are so easy to drive. Where I live and work, the local supercars are always doing the rounds.
If I had the money I would definitely buy it over other supercars. I don't need or want something that leaves the pavement in pieces and has an interior that looks as if it wouldn't be out of place in the cockpit of a rocket. I would want something that looks beautiful, I can use daily, is fun to drive, and is comfortable.
I just saw the price of the GT vs the Huracan there might be a 20 grand difference in price but the V10.... I dont know anymore i don't understand myself anymore either LOL id rather get the Huracan, such a sexy car
Put this guy on top gear.. My god, every review of him is just a joy to watch
Keep up the great work!
Too many ppl on the new top gear as it is....6 now i think...what they need to do is just get this guy and chris harris.
👍
It's too bad Top Gear has strayed so far from doing traditional road test reviews and focus more on theatrics and goofy stunts
+anewacc get a load of the f12 review!!!
I agree, he could have been the person who replaces James May, somewhat.
Love his presenting style - pretty much my favorite online car show because of him & the production quality.
Very good!!!! This and Chris Harris on cars
the best looking mclaren in my opinion
No way. The 600 lt is and by far.

I didn't even really notice the back end visual differences until you mentioned it... It DOES look a bit better than the 570s...
agreed, I wonder what they will do with the spider gt
Does this not have a drop top?
it's better than the porsche. ...it looks better , sounds better , drives better (maybe not as fast ),has better interior as well......it's just more substantial than a 911 turbo s..

And if you want speed, get the 570s. It is also RWD, which is more fun.
agree
aditya jethi You 've never ridden a Porsche have you?
Personally, I think this is the best looking super car currently available.
I'm more of a Porsche guy, but i'll rather take this 570GT. I love the idea of having a powerfull car with comfort, like Maserati or Bentley.
I was waiting for this so long, and now it's here! Keep up the good work! You're te best on youtube.
This car makes quite much sense when you think of average owner. The car that I am really waiting is 911 Safari edition.(more suspension travel and rally styling for 911)

really nice review ... and as he said it would be cool to see direct comparison of 911 turbo vs. 570GT :-)
Sorry for asking but in the end of the video what you have on your belly?
Guys, I know they're not in the same category, but considering cruise capability, finish details at the interior and overall driving experience (and looks), would you get the 570GT or the California T?
Personally I would take the GT, it feels more special and more of a proper car. I love both the interior and exterior the California T just does not have that supercar exterior look.
Anyone else reminded a bit of Simon from TopTenz when they see Alex without his glasses?
I think they targeted a well optioned 911 Turbo (and R8 V10) and not the Turbo S (and R8 V10 Plus). That's what the 570S is for.
I know it's a bit unrelated to the video, but what song is playing at the very end of the video, 10:30 to the end?
