    I'm an accountant with 6 years of experience and have just finished my CPA looking to start my own bookkeeping business on the side. This is really helping with workflow as I wasn't sure how much it would differ from my full time accounting job. Thanks for these videos!

      That's great to hear! It sounds like a side bookkeeping business would be a great complement to what you already do. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)

    I love these videos! It really helps to see how you take care of some of these tasks. Quick question! So I have been an accountant for about 25 years. I am just starting my own bookkeeping business. yay! Here is the kicker, I travel in my RV for a living so I don’t have a main home. As I am setting this all up, what would you suggest for the quarterly taxes? I have a few different PO Boxes throughout the areas where we frequent to keep up with mail but that is mostly done through the internet. Should I just pick one and go with it? If I did that I’d pick Oregon as that is the state I am in the most. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks!!

      Hi! Thanks for watching! I'm from OR also. :) I have a video (linked in description) about quarterly taxes, check that out if you haven't seen it. But, I don't have the expertise to answer your specific question... you'll need to check with a tax preparer to see in which state to claim your taxes. I have heard situations where you can pick a state, and then you'd want to pick one with the most tax advantage (like, maybe Nevada with no income tax?). But it may depend yes, on where you have your PO boxes and where you spend the most time and where other assets are located. Sorry I can't help more! Sounds like a fun life you lead!

    What did you do with the check stubs when you were done? Do you keep a copy of them anywhere? Your office is so clean and clutter free!

    Hi Morgan, I’ve been watching your videos for a while and really loved it! Got a question - in this real life video how did you bill your clients for the work you done? Did you only bill when you do the “actual” work as you know sometimes as a bookkeeper you need to spend quite a bit of time to do your own research before you can go back to do your “actual” work for clients… I’m just confused how should I bill clients based on “working hours”?! Any tips?! Thanks!

    • @FinePointsBookkeeping
      @FinePointsBookkeeping  2 роки тому

      Hmm, good question. Currently, I try to just do fixed rate pricing (so I'm not tracking my hours... if I do faster work then it help me, or if I need to research, it's still the same price for the client). When I was new, I charged hourly at a lower rate (assuming that I can't get things done as fast)... If I was learning a totally new concept, I wouldn't charge my client for it and thought about it as part of my education (like if I was watching YT videos on how to input checks). But, if I was spending time in their QB file sorting through things out I would charge them. So, it's kind of a judgment call, and not necessarily always a perfect science. :) However, I would encourage you not to under-charge as it's easy to do in the beginning! Hope that helps! Have you already watched this video that dives deeper in to pricing? ua-cam.com/video/tm-Eo3tke0E/v-deo.html

    In your sample you wrote the check payment to a vendor and categorize it in an income account? Is that common?

    Hello! Your videos are so helpful! I’m about to start my own bookkeeping business and am finishing up the Bookkeeper Launch course. But I just had a quick question. Are checks pretty much the only thing you input manually into quick books? And then everything else comes through with the bank feed?

    • @FinePointsBookkeeping
      @FinePointsBookkeeping  2 роки тому +1

      It depends on the workflow of the client... but yes, that's the main thing I input beforehand. If you are invoicing, then the invoice will be created ahead of the deposit and will match. I do not input expenses from receipts (I have a 2 part vid on the receipt process if you want to check it out). Hope that helps!

      I only use Quickbooks Online (as I think it's more efficient to be proficient in one software). I've also used QB desktop, and Xero is probably the next most popular.
