Your videos are wonderful and informative. Thanks! By education I am an accountant, but for the last 20 years worked in IT. I am now retired and started the process of starting a bookkeeping company. I also got certified as QBO ProAdvisor. How do you manage QBO subscriptions for new clients? Also, if a client is not interested in using QBO but is willing to download transactions as a data dump and ask you to process it in QBO, how do you do that? Do you refuse to take up such work?
Hey! You can manage all of your clients QBO subscriptions in QBO Accountant. You have 2 options for new clients. 1) the client can pay QBO directly for their subscription and give you access or 2) you can pay for the subscription and add the fee into what you charge your client each month. In most cases, as the bookkeeper, you can upload transactions easily in QBO using a bank or credit card statement. Morgan recommends having your clients accounts linked to QBO so that the client does not need to provide statements each month. Morgan does not work with clients who do not use QBO. Krista (FinePoints Admin)

Hi! Super helpful video! I was wondering if I would still need to set up the LLC and business bank account even if this is just a side hustle? Is that pointed more towards full time bookkeeping businesses?
You can be a sole proprietor (depending on where you live) without setting up an LLC (using your name for your business). Morgan promotes an LLC because it gives you that added legal protection to protect any personal assets in the case of a legal dispute. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
I’m curious, what kind of certification or education and experience did you go to be a bookkeeper. I’m looking into certifications and program grants for actual quickbooks certifications.

accountant (not cpa) with 15+ years experience starting out as a freelance bookkeeper. what are your thoughts of QB starting their own bookkeeping service.
Nice! I want to research that a bit more and do a video on it. I've actually heard that some bookkeepers enjoy working for them, but others are worried/skeptical. What do you think?
@@FinePointsBookkeeping I'm a bit mixed. I studied up and earned certification because I want to freelance and be free of "working for a boss". My concern rises from what I was seeing while researching local Bk'rs rates. I was seeing QB quoting that Bk'rs shouldn't charge more that $650/month; and that was for the "top tier" (the $$$+) clients. My fear is that they're going to price out us new freelancers that are just starting to build client list. Rumor is that they've done this before with their Turbo Tax product.
If you own your own bookkeeping business, you can work the hours you'd like! It's mostly remote and very little in-person or over-the-phone interaction with your clients. Those meetings would need to be scheduled when works for both of you. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
Yes, you'll need to buy QB desktop. Does your client already have it? If so, you may be able to remote in to their server (and you wouldn't need to purchase).
Hi Gloria! The great news is that you need very little investment to start a bookkeeping business, so if it's something that interests you, it could be a great way to bring in some income either on the side as you work toward a new job or to build as a career for yourself. Here's a video Morgan did about the startup costs for bookkeepers: ua-cam.com/video/MF3AmuVplLA/v-deo.html Krista (FinePoints Assistant)
I am doing a course through Coursera (Intuit Bookkeeping Professional Certificate ) would this be perfect to get my own business going after completing just this course?
That's a great start! Let me know how you like it--I haven't done it yet, but it's on my list. Here's my video on "Am I ready to start bookkeeping?" ua-cam.com/video/nWs9I0WwG_o/v-deo.html Also check out "hacks to gain experience"... you may want some hands on experience in addition to the certificate.
Hi 👋 I'm starting my own bookkeeping business as well. I have quickbooks online. I have a client/friend who uses 2021 Pro QBdesktop. How do i obtain her books to be able to work on them at home? Do I purchase QB desktop as well? When they send me the QB file by email. Thanks 😊
There are a few options: you can buy it and share files (need to make a backup and send back and forth), you can remote in to their server, or you can just keep the QB file and send them reports. You can't use qbo and qbdt simultaneously (but you can convert their DT to online). I have a video about it: ua-cam.com/video/ATKAB61xGRs/v-deo.html
Definitely!! It's just one option. (My class is $150 if it seems like a good fit). I made a video with a few more options here: ua-cam.com/video/l5dnRgJem2o/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
Do you want to be a bookkeeper? (Or do you have a different business?) If you're a bookkeeper, definitely get QuickBooks Online Accountant. Here's a vid with more info: ua-cam.com/video/xKcCrN5Sn-E/v-deo.html
Hi Morgan- I am in Salem Or 👋 I have registered as Bookkeeping by Hand, my name is Trish Hand 😉. I would love to meet up with you and the other gal from Oregon sometime.
Hey! Morgan lives in OR where there is no sales tax, but you will need to take this into consideration if you live in a different state. Krista (FinePoints Admin)
The National Association of Certified Public Bookkeepers (NACPB) administers CPB certification and The American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB) offers a CB certification. Do you suggest anyone of this certification for better exposure.?
Either, Morgan doesn't have a preference of one over the other. She does share different bookkeeping classes and certification options on her free chart she created: finepoints.newzenler.com/f/certification-chart-freebie -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
That's a good question, and obviously hard to answer for sure--I'm sure it depends a lot on the bookkeeper and the businesses they want to work for. I have heard that some bookkeepers had increased business (with people needing help with PPP loans, etc). For people like me who are already set up to be 100% virtual, it's easy to transition to new clients that you don't need to meet in person (if they no longer go in to an office space). A bad economy isn't good for anyone, but I don't think bookkeepers are affected any more than average. Hope that helps!
So glad you're thinking about bookkeeping! Let me know what's holding you up and what questions you have!

Yeah, I'd say so if you feel like you know enough to serve clients. Start small and learn as you go.
How’s it going for you? I’m still at university, but I’m thinking about my steps after I graduate.
$40/hr seems super high for someone just starting out. Is that actually standard? Do people ever balk at that rate?
It all depends on your experience and knowledge. Some do start lower (even working for free for a client or two in the beginning), but work their way up to $40/hour as they gain clients and experience. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
Hey Morgan, are you providing and add-on services above bookkeeping? (Forecasting/budgets, FP&A?) And is an Engagement Letter necessary for just basic bookkeeping services?
Morgan is not providing any other services at this time. Thank you!

Hi... Love your videos... It makes me want to be a bookkeeper.. please help me
What are your questions?
Thanks for the video. I was the 5000th like and hopefully we can get the give away :)
Thanks for the information! I'm not able to access the 'Big, Medium and Small' clients live. It says private. Is there another way to access the video?
Oh yeah, it comes out tomorrow! Sorry for the confusion.
No worries!! Thanks for the clarification

Can an 18 year old start bookkeeping business and would you recommend it?
Yes, definitely! It's great side hustle for current students too.
accountant (not cpa) with 15+ years experience starting out as a freelance bookkeeper. what are your thoughts of QB starting their own bookkeeping service.
Hi! Great video. UA-cam is telling me that you Big Small Medium Clients video is private. Help please! :)
Oh man, this is uploaded, but coming out tomorrow. Check back then! I'll change it in the description--thanks for the heads up. :)

Can you work as a bookkeeper in the evenings or does bookkeeping require you to work during the day?
If you own your own bookkeeping business, you can work the hours you'd like! It's mostly remote and very little in-person or over-the-phone interaction with your clients. Those meetings would need to be scheduled when works for both of you. -Gabe (FinePoints Admin)
Just started my bookkeeping business. How do i obtain my clients desktop QB when i have QB online. Do i buy desktop as well? Its my first client. Thx
Yes, you'll need to buy QB desktop. Does your client already have it? If so, you may be able to remote in to their server (and you wouldn't need to purchase).
Hi, so what would you say is the total amount of money needed to start?
Hi Gloria! The great news is that you need very little investment to start a bookkeeping business, so if it's something that interests you, it could be a great way to bring in some income either on the side as you work toward a new job or to build as a career for yourself.
Here's a video Morgan did about the startup costs for bookkeepers: ua-cam.com/video/MF3AmuVplLA/v-deo.html

I want to marry this lady... great bookkeeping tips!
I am studying B.com 2nd year I have accounting knowledge
Can I start a bookkeeping business?
I have to generate income from any sources
Yes, for sure!
Bookkeeper launch is way to much for my budget right now, even the monthly plans are costly. Can I start bookkeeping with out it?
Definitely!! It's just one option. (My class is $150 if it seems like a good fit). I made a video with a few more options here: ua-cam.com/video/l5dnRgJem2o/v-deo.html Hope that helps!
@@FinePointsBookkeeping which class is this?
Which plan do you recommend for a new business? Essentials, plus, or advanced?

Hi Morgan- I am in Salem Or 👋
I have registered as Bookkeeping by Hand, my name is Trish Hand 😉.
I would love to meet up with you and the other gal from Oregon sometime.
Cool! Love your name! :) I've been wanting to do some kind of meet up--I think I got an email from you with your info?
@@FinePointsBookkeeping yes that was me! I look forward to the meet up
Any can give me training in quickbooks in practice.
Do you charge customers sales tax?
Hey! Morgan lives in OR where there is no sales tax, but you will need to take this into consideration if you live in a different state.

How to start book keeping business ?? Give me the right Direction I'm from Pakistan
Download the checklist in the description box! :)
Do you think this is still viable for someone just starting out with the decimation of small businesses that have happened since 2020?
That's a good question, and obviously hard to answer for sure--I'm sure it depends a lot on the bookkeeper and the businesses they want to work for. I have heard that some bookkeepers had increased business (with people needing help with PPP loans, etc). For people like me who are already set up to be 100% virtual, it's easy to transition to new clients that you don't need to meet in person (if they no longer go in to an office space). A bad economy isn't good for anyone, but I don't think bookkeepers are affected any more than average. Hope that helps!
@@FinePointsBookkeeping it does help! Thank you so much for your time!
