Created on 4/11/20
These kinds of trains are what we always look for when we’re trackside. It’s Heritage Units and Special Interests Trains. But what are they?
Heritage Units are special painted locomotives to honor a “Fallen Flag Railroad” which are former railroad companies that used to exist and they were either merged with another railroad or were purchased by a current railroad. Some examples of Fallen Flag Railroads are Southern Pacific, Santa Fe, Chicago & North Western, Norfolk & Western, Burlington Northern, and SOO Line. Currently, Metra, Norfolk Southern, Union Pacific, Canadian Pacific, and Amtrak are the only current railroads to have Heritage Units.
Special Interest Trains/Units are also special painted locomotives but they show honor to certain groups such as military veterans, law enforcements, and first responders. Some examples of Special Interests Units are Amtrak P42DC 42 “Veterans Unit” and Union Pacific SD70AH 1943 “The Spirit” which are known to be popular among railfans.
Next week, we look at my favorite type of trains to see trackside. Grab your popcorn and drink for this video featuring Heritage Units and Special Interests Trains!
It was cool to see IAIS trains in this video, reminds me of my hometown
@LONDON9088 I have no idea what that reads
8:14 what's the baggage car doing with a superliner replacement?
This, though 3yrs old, is THE most thorough i’ve seen!👍🏻🚂
Wunderschönes Video toll gemacht weiterhin good Lucky Train📽📽📽📽📽🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃🚂
some of those old liveries look so smart; especially the Pensy pinstripes

World Wide Of Trains And Trucks that’s because it is
@@WorldWideOfTrainsAndTrucks It’s a Narrow Font K5LA. SC-44s use a Raised Letter K5LA. Only difference really heard is the SC-44s horn is on a solenoid, while NCPUs use a lever valve.

It is rare to see two heritage units on the same train! Also, I just saw KCS 4567 (a grey heritage unit) yesterday near Railroad Park in Des Moines, Iowa!
4567 is a Grey Ghost, KCS has no HU's.
@LakeStateRailfan what about the Kansas city southern veterans locomotive
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😂😂😂😂
Awesome video here, really enjoyed it!
Thank you very much!
10:37 rip Amtrak 90221
Why
Bc it got into a crash 2 years ago and was scrapped
UA-cam videos
90221 is still in service. If you’re talking about 90208, then that makes sense because 208 is out of service as of now.
Great video
Thank you!
Would love to ride an F&/F8 and her old cars a few thousand miles and back,
I remember riding them as a youngster.
Wow, great video Andrew! I liked seeing alot of Lake County IL shots and Rondout too. Were some of the CP videos done at Wadsworth IL?
Yes, some of the CP Freight Trains in the video like the NS 1068 (Erie Heritage Unit) was filmed in Wadsworth, IL. Appreciate that you like the video! -Andrew Mangalindan

I am in the desert southwest so I really enjoy watching trains in the snow.
One of the clips showed something that looked like the track was on fire. What was Happening there?
Since it was so cold, track maintenance sets the switches on fire so they don't freeze and not work
They use it so trains won’t derail when there’s ice and snow on the ground

Great video Andrew! I like seeing all the Heritage and special units from the various railroads! Where was UP 4014? Are you putting together a special video on the Big Boy? Thanks for sharing with us!
There will a special video on UP Big Boy 4014 on May 10, 2020 at 12:00pm Central Time. Thanks for watching the video! Glad you enjoyed the Heritage Units and Special Units from different railroads we have filmed previously at. -Andrew Mangalindan
@@ATrain4014😊
Hey quick question, How do you know when those Units come? Is it just luck? or is it like a club that tells you or something?
It's a combination of things. It's a little bit of luck and with a little bit of info on some of these units being passed on from other railfans. Hope this makes sense. -Andrew Mangalindan
@@ATrain4014Ah, thanks!
I didn’t catch any HU last year, only SP an 145, and OLS units
