About the origin of raya, adele lim admitted that her movie had taken inspiration from the real story of two bravest vietnamese female generals: Trung Trac and Trung Nhi. Raya and nimaara are actually inspired by these 2 historical figure.
Only Namaari sucks. She's an abuser and gaslighter. She didn't even apologise for bringing the Druuns or killing Sisudatu. And fans even ship her and Raya. Disgusting.
In Bahasa Indonesia "Raya" means The Great or Big. If you add affix on "Raya" it will become "Perayaan" which means Celebration. In Indonesia we call Great Britain with "Britania Raya" & Indonesia National Anthem is "Indonesia Raya" Raya's sword is Keris, traditional dagger from Indonesia. But in Raya it looks much bigger. It more similar to Naga Puspa Sword (literally means dragon flower sword) that appears in indonesia's historycal soap-opera with the same title. I think Kumandra isnt fully fictional world. I think it inspired from term of "Nusantara" where lot of nations in Southeast Asia once lived together as one in harmony & peace. You can read History about Sriwijaya & Majapahit kingdom.

South East Asia today is not the same as it was 1000 years ago. There is a large Chinese expat population in Southeast Asia and China has been expanding south for many years. So the looks aren't as distinct today as they used to be. But also, there have been a lot of similarities across Asian cultures as they are all part of an Asian cultural sphere. The issue is that a lot of those cultural elements, such as martial arts, get identified exclusively as Chinese. There were also Asian dragons in other cultures outside of China as well, but again the ones in China are the most well known and famous.
Too bad, Actually the Philippines has been assumed to be Luzon, which is too westernized and christianized, and have lost it's true south east asian touch/culture compared to Mindanao which have preserved their pre colonial, exotic culture the same as nearby countries such as Malaysia and Indonesia.
look at the screenshot at 4:46 the way they put prints on cloth. you see that a lot in visayas/mindanao. maybe you're not just as educated with filipino culture. or worse, maybe you think your local province is the entirety of the philippines? hindi lahat ng lugar parang maynila.
tracing our ancestry back to pre-colonial period, I would say as a Filipino I definitely saw and felt the representation in the movie. Besides, even up to these days, Filipinos share bits and bits if not most of culture, norms, and traits with the rest of the region.
I am Vietnamese, and I saw Philippine culture here the martial art. I also saw other martial arts like Vovinam from Vietnam, Muay Thai, and Pancatsilak from Indonesia
I love this movie so so much! The person in the picture is not Lady Trung. It was a picture of Lady Trieu (Bà Triệu or Triệu Thị Trinh), another Vietnamese heroine who lead the people against the Wu dynasty of China in 248 AD.
It's mostly mean great: Hari raya, great day (used for Eid) Bunga Raya: great flower, lebuhraya: great road (I'm not sure about the last one even tho I'm Malaysian)
The movie was amazing. I cried like 3 times. It was very moving and I felt sensitive to all the themes. The lady that does the dragons voice has such a great voice!

@@claudesantiago2874 well in here the locals enjoyed it too but mostly my friends are films enthusiast and the indo critic's the only complains they're saying is the mashed se asia cultures
Personally I think the South East Asian influence in this film is made up largely by Thai culture, with bits of Laotian/Cambodian/ Javanese tucked in some scenes. Only reference to Vietnamese culture is how Raya called her father by the word “Ba”, which is used mainly in Central/Southern Vietnam Anyway you can’t expect to put in every cultural details of like 10 countries into a 100 minute Disney movie
The movie isn’t largely made up from thai culture. Thai and Cambodian cultures are very similar. I think you made this statement because Thai is more known.
In any form of culture, I love all. Cos once we do not trust each other, we will still be divided and become weak. So ASEAN needs be to United as one.😊 Peace♥️
Lao/Thai/Cambodian are essentially cousins we came from the Tai people that migrated South from Southern China. Through marriage and war we share the same lineage. People just say Thai for everything because...it's complicated. Thai hands are not clean.
I just watched the movie, and I loved it. It was so compelling, so dramatic, so epic... I cried, I laughed. That climax was a masterpiece. The story is beautiful and it's so relevant to our times. The characters are fantastic, they're interesting and complex. The cinematography is astonishing, the fights scenes are amazing, I cannot believe this was all done from home.
In the movie, a couple of the tribes are headed by women. In South East Asia, the Minangkabau of Sumatera Indonesia and Negeri Sembilan Malaysia till today still practices Adat Perpatih which is a type of women/matrilineal system. Their tribes' heritage land ( tanah pusaka adat) is passed from mother to daughters only. Cool that somehow it is reflected in the film
The architecture of Minangkabau people houses resemble the house carvings on Vietnam's bronze drums. There is also a theory that some Trung sisters' followers made out to the sea and escaped to reach the land of W. Sumatra. Of course, such theory might not be proven.
Perhaps it's a kalis then? Kalis is a larger and heavier version of that which was developed in the philippines when they traded with indonesia. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sorry, the voice acting thing - To me, recording from home is a normal thing. That's how my audioplays have been made. It's wierd to me that it's wierd to them, but it explains some of the sound quality. Not bashing, just glad to have an answer haha. Nothing wrong with recording from home, that's how people are getting their practice in nowadays before, if they do, they get into professionalism. Every time I get talked to about my audioplays and they say they're interested, they ALWAYS say "But I can't travel over there/I don't have access to a sound studio" and I'm just like "Mate if your phone mic is not buzzy or staticy and it's fine, because I use my IPad, then cool! Do it in your wardrobe! I'm not expecting Blue Yeti 25166352 whatever mics! Just please don't whisper your audition like your mother's asleep in the next room.".

I love how south east asian countries share so much culture with India. The word raya literally means great, fast and rays of light in sanskrit. And the mythical naga is also an Indian concept. The architecture and embroidery is so rich in both cultures. I did a bit of research and found thai traditional sabai so similar to the saree and also the traditional clothes in Bali. In Bahasa Indonesia "Raya" means The Great or Big. If you add affix on "Raya" it will become "Perayaan" which means Celebration. In Indonesia we call Great Britain with "Britania Raya" & Indonesia National Anthem is "Indonesia Raya"
Raya's sword is Keris, traditional dagger from Indonesia.

Some buildings and clothes, Even some foods are inspired from the thai culture. The funny fact is that they call Raya‘s animal companion Tuk Tuk.
And what brought me to tears is when Raya summoned Sisu with pouring the water in golden cup. My mom and I always used to did it when we pray in the temple.

The Sticks That Raya holds are called "Arnis" from the Philippines The Moves Are Pretty Accurate On what people do so It's Really Decent To Watch
Yes, Eskrima and kali have been used extensively in many action films..
Arnis is a martial use in various weapon not just the stick adn also hand to hand combat
The person in the picture is not Lady Trung. It was a picture of Lady Trieu (Bà Triệu or Triệu Thị Trinh), another Vietnamese heroine who lead the people against the Wu dynasty of China in 248 AD.
Ba Trieu, thanks to Civilization 6 I read her story.
This show is what a perfectly executed zoom project looks like
Funfact, "Raya" not only mean "celebration" in Malay, but also a name of flower which is Hibiscus Flower, Malaysia's National flower.
And they put bunga raya around the credit name..
raya also mean "great" or "big".
It's mostly mean great: Hari raya, great day (used for Eid) Bunga Raya: great flower, lebuhraya: great road
(I'm not sure about the last one even tho I'm Malaysian)
Raya specifically means 'big' or 'great'
Also the highway in Malaysia

Personally I think the South East Asian influence in this film is made up largely by Thai culture, with bits of Laotian/Cambodian/ Javanese tucked in some scenes. Only reference to Vietnamese culture is how Raya called her father by the word “Ba”, which is used mainly in Central/Southern Vietnam
Anyway you can’t expect to put in every cultural details of like 10 countries into a 100 minute Disney movie
If you look at the food they eat, you can see some Vietnamese dishes (especially in the credit arts)
The movie isn’t largely made up from thai culture. Thai and Cambodian cultures are very similar. I think you made this statement because Thai is more known.

Nothing wrong with recording from home, that's how people are getting their practice in nowadays before, if they do, they get into professionalism.
