Another tip from me: To master the tight timing on the reading section, take practice tests and identify what area of literature (Social Science, Humanities, Fiction, etc.) you are the best at and the one you are worst at. Then, take the reading passage that you struggle first and then take the ones that are 'ok' and leave the one you are best at for last (just locate them and do them in that order). I just thought of this; I will try it myself later. My ACT is on June 9.

      how'd you do?

I suggest you do your best one first. You're likely to run out of time and not be able to finish the one your best at if left for last. This would leave a lot of points on the table.

Thanks Super Tutor this video was amaing. I took the test one time and I did it the way we would take a test in school and scored low on the act reading section. But when I used the evidence based tip. I scored a 32 act reading score. I went up from a 10 to a 32. I was so happy
    Thanks!!!

Tip from me: If you do not have enough time to finish the last passage and questions, only read the topic sentences of the passage's paragraphs and answer as most questions as time allows. I did this in my first practice test and got 4 of 5 qustions I answered this way correct. 30 composite 😀

Same but I got a 29 composite. I just took it again but my anxiety got to me for the reading and science sections which were my highest the first time and so I think my score is going way down

I got a 35 on the reading section my first time taking the test, and it helped bring up my lower scores in math and science, 26 and 25 respectively. I went through the questions in order, but I didn’t fully read the passages at all. I found that a lot of the passage wasn’t really necessary for the questions. I went through the questions while reading the passage so I could save time. I ended up having like 5 mins left at the end of the section to go back and check answers on tricky ones. I’m totally going to use these tips too when I take it again.

    Hey.
My name is Julia and I´m from Brazil. My dream is to get in an Ivy League School so I pretty much live for your videos at the Supertutortv youtube channel. Next year I am finaly starting high school, and I´ve been thinking about changing schools, for several reasons. The reason I am writting for you is that I have a very important question. A question that may decide which new school I am going to pick. For an international student trying to be admited in an Ivy League school, being able to graduate with both an american diploma and a brazilian one is very important and could help me get into an Ivy League school or is something that the admissions committee don´t really care?
I hope that you can answer this message. You would help me so much. In any case, thank you already.

After taking my ACT, I am certain I have issues with reading/comprehending tests. I scored great on math, science, and English (34, 33, and 31 respectively), yet I scored a 20 on reading. It is extremely difficult for me, and I truly do not understand why.

Its not that you have problems with reading.. its more that the reading, the type of questions, and the speed at which they have to be done, are what are screwing you over. The ACT is not an indicator of intelligence in any of the 4 subjects tests. I am usually really good at reading in general, as soon as I took the ACT, I got a 20... why? Because I wasnt prepared to change my strategy on how to read.

Is it better to skim a passage go to questions and then answer questions or look at passage in detail so you dont have to come back to it as often?

The problem is that I just don’t understand the passages most of the time even reading them.
