As a drummer recording in separate places is a lot like exchanging emails you can have a conversation but once you get face-to-face you can always take that conversation to another level.

This is such cool info. Must have been the coolest experience for these dudes to sharpen their skills on a project like a Pantera album. Awesome!

Regarding isolation: obviously technology makes remote recording very easy, but everybody knows that in-person band interaction always yields superior artistic results. Let’s not blame technology for that.
We don’t need to go back to a pre-internet era to make better recordings.

As somebody myself who really started writing music heavily with a band around 2006, we got bigger a few years later and never got the chance to really go work all the way deep in a studio, and cut an album the traditional way. Nowadays we do the typical digital recording where we all do our parts in separate states. It really is not the same experience and a bummer. Would be dope af to be rich.

I'm in favor of old school recording and playing live while still tracking to a DAW. But man if I see one more interview with producers or engineers where they talk about how good you had to be to make records the old way I'm gunna barf. We get it. It was harder. But you were still editing. You were still applying effects after the raw signal was recorded you just had to do it in a much less efficient way. I do hate the idea of people being able to make things sound perfect via plugins though. No one has to be a great performer to make a good sounding record anymore if you know how to use plug ins.

I was blessed to have recorded with Sterling. He could drink with you shot for shot. That’s what is missing from music today.

Does terry really come across as a super selfish person to you? Cuz I don’t see that from what I’ve seen on YT
