At least since 1:00 you have a noticable humming sound in your recording. Your editing is nice, your voice and script are great too, so if you could get rid of that your video would be really clean :) Edit: And around 11:15 your mic starts to clip
I really hope more people begin to realize how broken this game is. Definitely underrated in the speedrunning community
Speed running mario kart 7 was really fun I do reccomend (coming from someone who hasn't played it/speedrun it in about 3 or so years)
the game isn’t broken, most of this stuff has only been found by people using tools.
@@abraham3673 When we were younger playing this game when it released a bunch of shortcuts where you get put way further in the maps were found easily without tools.

It's because of the ridiculous herd mentality that 7 is just a worse 8 when in reality 7 is much closer to a portable Wii. 7 has the crazy physics and tight controls that 8 lacks and it makes for a game that is way more fun to play competitively.
It's highly unlikely, but I hope that MK8 has a shortcut revolution one day. I want those 4K HD glitches.

This and Wii are definitely the reason why MK8 has such strict shortcuts lmao. Every checkpoint is a key checkpoint.
As a programmer, I really have a difficult time understanding why Nintendo didn’t just do this from the very beginning. Track the checkpoints in a bit map or push completed checkpoint indices into a vector. It seems so easy I feel like I must be missing something, but I really don’t think I am.

At least the stairs in luigi's mansion don't crash the game this time around.
For those unaware, in the DS release doing a burnout on those stairs will freeze your DS completely. Requiring a full system reboot to "fix".
Long post warning:
Hi, I’m the one who came up with the idea for the Rainbow Road SC. The video was pretty good. I just want to point out a couple of errors in this video. HRT is HGT (in fact, your screenshots showed that 🙃). A TAS was made by him in 2020 demonstrating the DK Jungle Glider glitch; the one in 2012 was a respawn glitch by jumping off the left of the first turn in the temple. Also, you missed a glitch found very early in the game’s history: a wall clip discovered in Shy Guy bazaar on the turn after the bazaar (m.ua-cam.com/video/ESFS7uCv7lU/v-deo.html). However, I believe the clip would not respawn you in a way saving time until 2017, when it was implemented into a run by Jacob. The current glitch was found by 8w (and idea by Ray) and used in this run (m.ua-cam.com/video/bQT0drfWrfs/v-deo.html ) in 2022. Daisy Cruiser clip was in 2019, and also, before that clip was this (m.ua-cam.com/video/W2DfxE53_UI/v-deo.html, and supposedly the strat was found in 2012, due to some of the comments of that video). That respawn on DS Airship Fortress was found in 2019 by Ryan and CF. The TAS glitch was found in 2021 by MKWilliam (this bit is less of a mistake on your end, just something you maybe should’ve mentioned). Also a possible thing you could’ve mentioned it that it’s less about the height you get from the pipe bounce in Wario Shipyard, but it’s more due to mk7s water physics making it that you can retain your speed while moving in low gravity; height is important, physics more so. Koopa Cape glitch for Wii (2021)was discovered after the Koopa Cape mk7 clip(2019), and in fact, koopa Cape mk7 had a respawn before that (m.ua-cam.com/video/KfKW8_lb1Q0/v-deo.html), so Nintendo couldn’t possibly focus on bug hunting if no bug was known. Similar but different thing for the Maple Treeway glider glitch: the mkwii glitch was found after mk7s release. GBA BC1 jump glitch was found in 2018 by CF, while the respawn was found right after the game’s launch. Also, since you mentioned the TAS-only DS Airship glitch, you should also mention the coconut mall glitch (m.ua-cam.com/video/OlkbczZJ1c0/v-deo.html), old Rainbow Road glitch (m.ua-cam.com/video/26mvvWXFQDY/v-deo.html), and the Mario Circuit glitch, although if that didn’t exist during editing I understand. I really do like your checkpoint system explanation, however. The checkpoint system of this game has always baffled me and now it makes a lot more sense. I do appreciate this video, and thanks for actually covering this fun little overlooked game.

I'm not sure if world records were actually world records. But I remember as an 11 year old having the world record on maka Wuhu. I felt so accomplished about it. Almost positive world records weren't world records but rather you were put in brackets of other people

3:18 I swear to God, for a split second, I had to think about whether or not I tried setting any records in MK7 as a child, but I know for a fact that I never had any idea of the shortcut meta so I can't have set the second record. I mean, I was never a particular pro at the game, but I played it a lot back in the day, I loved Wuhu Loop to death, my Mii had that exact name and my memory about that time is kinda hazy, so for a short moment I was convinced that that was me.
Nice video! One thing you didn't mention was that bowser castle 1, dk jungle, shy guy bazaar and koopa cape had respawn shortcuts that became obsolete once the new ones were discovered. It has been fun watching this game become more broken as the years have progressed, nice job!

They also missed the flap only Mario circuit skip, as well as the mystery behind the random respawn that was a main inspiration, and the rainbow road glitches. Not to mention the track where you are on a railing for over 90% of the time.
Good video but there are many inaccuracies. The Bowser castle 1 shortcut and dkjungle shortcut that you showed in the video were not discovered in 2012. Those were found much later. There are glitches on both of these tracks that were found in 2012 though they are just much more simple. For Bowser castle you hop over the wall where the new shortcut is and you get respawned right before the glider. For dkjungle you get a specific respawn in the temple section. Also you called the guy who used the bowser castle 1 shortcut hrt when his name is hgt lol

For what it's worth, making a tool-assisted run of a game does NOT differ from game to game on the same console. You slow the game down, use save states to retry sections until they're how you want them (usually until they're as good as you can make them) and then continue.

I think it is funny because he is saying that since mkwii has an ultra shortcut on koopa cape that the would be extra careful that, that wouldn’t happen again, but the koopa cape shortcut on mkwii was discovered almost a decade after mk7 came out

The funny thing about that MK64 RR skip is that I remember doing that back in like ‘97. I remember my brother and I trying for who knows how long and I actually managed to overshoot it and go over the backside of the track.
ive heard similar stories and its always so fascinating to me how through pure accident so many people did the shortcut yet the developers themselves didnt accidentally do it (or maybe they did and they just didnt care that there was a shortcut that skipped half the track haha)
@@AntoG If anybody on the team did it, it would have been the play testers, but yeah, it's funny how so many people knew about it even though the internet was in its infancy. Like, how did we figure _anything_ out as kids? I was 10 when we got the game in April of '97 and didn't have internet access until years later.

This was a great video, I only have one criticism and that’s just that some parts felt a bit rushed. I don’t mean they weren’t well informed, it’s just that often I had to go back in the video because you either mentioned something important in an offhand way or showed an image on screen that disappeared far too quickly.

7:32 vietnam flashbacks to spending over 100 hours grinding that glitch till i got a sub 50, it feels like RNG whether you go through quickly or not, and you have to travel over the OB on the left to make sure the lap counts, which is tricky to pull off

The out of bounds system in the game makes it where you can’t have any insane shortcuts it’s basically a pipe of out of bounds zones with a lot of other necessities for a lap to be completed
The stairs in Luigi’s mansion are crazy. First you could crash your game on them using A+B at the same time in Mario Kart DS and now in 7 it’s used for a great shortcut 😂😂😂

The Maple Treeway and Koopa Cape Ultraa were found after the release of MK7 :D So the devs technically didnt know about it ^^
One of my favourite things about this game is that they patched the maka wuhu shortcut for online play but left it in time trials.
Which ones did they patch for online play? Is it only that course for online?

In mkw they make it to where if you touch the first key check pion some how do and ultra shortcut okay the 95 percent rule and hit the last key checkpoint the lap counts
