November 2nd, 2018. I decided to upgrade my KS-18S 840Wh to 1680Wh so I have a wheel that can do long distance with a seat. Little did I know what is involved in the upgrade. I thought it was just slap in a battery, but apparently the shell isn't big enough to house the extra 840Wh battery and you have to carve a hole in it for the battery to stick out. CRAZY!
As I watched the battery going in I started thinking "man, I hope that fits," a few seconds later I thought "ooh that sucks," but glad to see it worked out in the end.
Good Job, Eddie! As said, historically the 18A/Ay/S shell was never meant to care 8P...was just made for customer demand, so all 1360/1680wh 18’s have this cutout. Greetingsm. Ulf/US69 :-)

thanks so much for this video! Successfully upgraded to 1680Wh, didn’t think it was too difficult, paralleling my Dualtron was much harder as I had to wire it and also modify the deck for the battery line.

That’s great you got it to fit man. Awesome. There is always some trade off it looks like. Cutting the side isn’t so bad. But I really like his wheel man, especially seeing Chris ride it in real life. Good work.
U-Stride this is how it comes from KS if you buy the 1680 battery. This shell wasn’t made to fit so much batteries and KS did that to fit them in. What I did was cut the hole myself instead of them cutting it at the factory if you buy the 1680wh version. Like the one that Chris has, it also has the “battery windows”. Lol

I wonder which could go farther? The ks18 s with 67v/1500watt motor, or the ks18XL with the higher 84volt/2000watt motor? Which is more efficient? I forgot my basic electronics.
the KS18S is more efficient. I think people get over 60 miles per charge.

It is a great wheel, but old tech compared to what is out now. I barely ride it now.
enjoy the up grade. i gone out for 5 hr rides and still came home with at least 30% battery. on long Island btw.

Hey man! Great job. Question on the cutting though, Did you add some additional padding where the battery sticks out later on to insulate it better from falls and such? My top 18S battery is coming next week to do this exact same upgrade! I quickly learned 840 simply isn’t enough real fast.
no, i didn't add anything, it only stick out a little and the foam padding does a pretty good job already. i just glued it all back over the hole.
What were the distance and speed figures on the 840wh motor?
Michael Coughlan you can still go 31mph top speed. You get about 30 miles per charge.
