- My attempt to remake a long lost cartoon intro working from storyboard, surviving clip and animation cels. This remake uses a mix of CGI with hand drawn elements.

3d robots and 2d animation?I APPROVE!
This intro feels like a weird cross between the cartoony asthenics of AOSTH and the slightly more serious tone of SatAM- which, unlike the final intro they went with, pretty much did away with the cartoony influence of the former...
Because this is a prototype of this intro and this is a little transistion to the comedy to serious
@@Giovanni3106 That is true, plus it fits more with the pilot episode, Heads or Tails, as it has Sally in her pink fur and black hair.

lasy 1 this is from when Adventures and SatAM were the same show, hence the lack of Antoine, Sally’s old model, and the lighter tones.

I came in like a wreckkkkkiiiinnnngg baallllll. He should be singing that during the 1st close up shot in his space ship LOL.
I am assuming this is from when AoSTH and SatAM were one and the same. The combined show would have started like AoSTH: Very lighthearted. Eventually, though, it’d get more like SatAM: gritty and dark.
Sally even cameos in the Adventures Christmas Special, though she has no lines and has an odd color scheme.
That is a very interesting idea.
I like it.
I wonder how Scratch and Grounder would be if they were in the SatAM show...

Ultra Anime HD a ducktales level reboot series would be pretty awesome yeah. (I’d also mention the dreamworks revivals of 80s cartoons but apparently those aren’t a 100% success for everyone due to iffy handling of the diversified cast)
NekoVira I’d love that but I would hate if they botched it. It’s why I hate most 80’s reboots.
Most of the cast is still alive: It would be cool if a episode was set in the future using the old cast as the VAs.
Chuck himself was old, so I would guess he would have been destroyed or deroboticized and dead by natural causes: a way to explain why his voice actor didn’t come back (can’t raise the dead. RIP Will Windom)

The creator Yuji Naka actually loved SatAm.

A glimpse of what could have been... But really this is awesome because it basically shows more of what DID happen in the past, it's just off by their ages and such.

Not a big fan of this version but I gotta say I respect the fact that you put this much effort into recreating it. You are a much more dedicated and invested fan than me.

I just traced from the storyboard at 2:22. In the real intro he was probably animated looking around at the robots closing in on him. But I really can't do anything but the most basic hand drawn animation so I just left it as a single drawing. It is a weird looking one at that.

I find it interesting that this and the intro suggest Robotnik's takeover was a much more recent thing. I wonder why it was changed later in the series.

I've moved onto making VR gaming worlds now, I probably wont make another animation. I've not made anything animated for ages although I think I have some mech stuff that I didn't get around to uploading so I might post that if I can find it.
Have you noticed that the animals are animated while to robots, half of Bunnies body, and Eggmans arm is cgi?
Once Robotnik turns something evil it goes CGI, only living creatures and plants are hand drawn, until Roboticized, then become CGI. It's a way of using the different media to represent the opposing worlds of Sonic and his natural world (2D) vs Robotnik and his machine realm (3D CGI).

Not bad, although it would have been better to remake the actual intro rather than the beta one.
I made this intro as the original official version seems to be lost, I could also remake the intro that was used for the show, perhaps I will but next I'm going to be making episode 3.

I know that's why I remade the entire clip. Hopefully someone will post the actual full intro someday if not perhaps the full original really is lost.

how do you layer the 3d models onto the 2d backrounds
3D things are rendered into transparent PNG / EXR file format,, then simply placed as a layer on top.

im not going to say this is terrible infact the 2d bits are quite good if a bit weird looking im going to say that the 3d looks like the donkey kong country cartoon if it was the year the donkey kong country cartoon came out which is actually high praise considering when it came out it was early on in 3d animation's life so it actually looked very good for its time certainly better than the mortal kombat movie's 3d anyway
