    Thank you for doing this video. I like to buy the little units like that for $5.00 when they are tiny and repot them to grow large. Recently, i have picked up several with multiple small cacti in on pot for cheap.
    This is just the video i was looking for. Keep up the good work !

      So happy you loved the video Daz :-D and OMGOLLY yes its absolutely freezing today and -3 last night and -5 forecast for tonight, I had to spend all of yesterday fleece clothing all the plants on tables in the polytunnel as extra protection, as we had to switch the thermostat to 3c instead of 5c to keep the elec costs down, I have a funny feeling we are going to experience another very hot Summer this year after this unusually extra cold spells we have had this Winter, I was planning on doing all these vids with the cacti in the polytunnel this month, but instead I will be staying indoors with my hot cup of ginger tea haha, thanks so much Daz for your wonderful Friendship and amazing comment and support and for watching, and Hans and I are sending you and beautiful Edith lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER to England and Singapore for a terrific afternoon XXXX

    Thanks Lyn for another excellent video. I've recently separated a couple of clusters of Myrtillocactus Geometrizans but I only left them a week before watering them, I suspect this was a bit too soon so I hope they survive. I'm plucking up the courage to do the same with a cluster of Stetsonia - this video has given me more confidence to tackle it given how long and sharp its spines are! I understand it has more sensitive roots, so I'll leave watering until April for those.

    Sorry I'm just catching up Lyn. My uncle came to visit from Alaska, haven't seen him in 40 years!!! I have to admit, mine are almost identical. I left mine together because I wanted to stage them with a mini cylindropuntia. Looks great!! But I do see your point!! As they grow they may start to poke each other. May have to repot into a larger container and spread them out! Thanks for the tip Lyn!! And thanks for sharing!!! Pereskiopsis, optunia and trichocereus spachiana are the only ones that seem to prick me. Otherwise my hands are hard enough against the spines. 💟 🌵 Great video ! 🌵 💟 Food for thought... 😉 Because I have a cluster like that, but with 6 individual plants. I bought it because I though it looked good, and it was a great price... 🙃 But as a window sill gardener when it comes to cacti, I really don't have room for 6 individual plants... I also bought some Mammilliara plants that probably are individual plants in one pot... O boy... What to do ??? 🤣🤣🤣

    Dear Lyn, why do some nurseries have plants in clusters like this? Do some cacti just grow that way? Can they grow healthy to their thickest potential even if they are clustered?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  Рік тому +1

      I think its because a lot of them are seed grown and they have a few seedlings all planted together in the one pot, the problem is when they grow larger these spiny guys can grow into each other and the spines can stab into the other cacti, its better if these very spiny ones can be separated individually and they have abetter chance of growing nice and large, thanks so much for your wonderful comment and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a terrific Thursday XXXX

    The cactus I have I kinda stacked on top of each other, different species. How do I separate stacked cactus?

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  29 днів тому

      Hi there, it sounds like you have cacti that have been grafted, some grafted cacti like the colourful 'red and yellow' Gymnocalycium cacti have to stay grafted due to them needed a grafting stock plant to survive because they lack the chlorophyll, if the cacti you have stacked are all green and not red or yellow coloured the its possible to de graft them and re root them individually but it can be a difficult process, some cacti that are slow growing or hard to grow on their own roots are best left grafted, thanks so much for watching and wishing you a wonderful plant powered Tuesday XXXX

    • @desertplantsofavalon
      @desertplantsofavalon  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Heather :-D yes if the roots are all really rooted together into a knot I would cut the roots with a knife or pruning shears and then let the cacti sit unpotted for 24 hours to let the cut parts of the roots 'callus' over before potting them up, and I would use only dry soil to pot them up in and wait a little bit longer until watering again around 2-3 weeks to be on the safe side, thanks so much Heather for your wonderful comments and support and for watching, and sending you lots of love and happiness and PLANT POWER for a brilliant Monday today XXXX
