    the EU politcians are not the only people who don't wanna have a constructive discussion on these issues. i remember, from years ago when the greek crisis was at its height and all over the media, that mr. Varoufakis gave an interview in my country's public tv channel (the country is Austria, the channel is ORF) and he was interrupted and almost shouted down. they refused to ask him questions about the substance of the economic issues at hand, but instead wanted to know why he had the audacity to step on the toes of more powerful politicians in the EU. the tenor was: how dare you, not: let's have an honest open discourse

      Stop congratulating him. The content of what he says is fine. No argument about that - but his eloquence is questionable. Assange is another person who is fairly useless at speaking in public - he does what he does in silence. NOT in public. Some people can deliver, but neither of these men. The British MP who left the EU last month was twenty times better than any of those who remain. What was his name? Nigel - yes, that man spoke with authenticity. A good speaker can destroy a whole army of theorists.

    Thank you Yanis, you set an example to all world leaders! I am reading your book "Adults in the Room" and it is fascinating. I also enjoyed your book explaining economics to your daughter, and I try and pass that on to my granddaughter. I live in a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and even our city government likes their "closed-door" meetings with no records kept. The same for our local hospital as it goes through bankruptcy, all in "closed-door" dealings. It is not surprising that our governments at the state and federal level are doing the same. I would love to be in the meetings the DNC have as they work to crush Bernie Sanders. I have a feeling that AIPAC has a hand in them, just like they did with Corbyn, so I guess that makes me anti-semitic, but I'll risk it to get at the truth. Thank you also for all you do to help free Assange! Manning has been ordered by the courts to be released, but I fear she has been abused nearly to death. I put nothing past these evil people to try and hide the truth. Keep up the good fight! The people of Greece are lucky to have you fighting for them! Sincerely, Ossie

    Copy-pasting from below: However, I think 'why now?' is a fair question. I had a think about this: 'should they have waited until COVID-19 blows over, or release now?'. I think it makes sense to release now, here's one reason. COVID-19 is going to cause an economic shock on the level of the Great Recession of 2008 - these Eurogroup recordings released expose the corrupt and illogical way that the top tiers of EU administration handled that crisis, and if we are to have a chance at avoiding that again (through popular awareness and pressure), then the public needs this information.

    • @keithlynch7239
      @keithlynch7239 4 роки тому +1

      Covid-19 will be used by our governments to hide many secrets and many frauds, unfortunately it will also kill many, mostly elderly people, who are a pension and medical burden on the state.

      It makes sense if you want to speak freely "off the record" at the meeting - this also happens in parliament, parliamentary commissions and governmental meetings, where only a final document with decisions or conclusions is published in the end. If the minutes are made public, you never know whether someone from a tabloid, a lobby or a group of "concerned citizens" might want to use one your remarks as a tool for free publicity, free money generation by lawsuit or outrage pump. Of course secrecy is a double-edged sword.

    • @johannesbekker1970
      @johannesbekker1970 4 роки тому +1

      @@SterileNeutrino So it is NOT democratic, or rather a sequestered 'democracy'... Does it really matter who uses the platform as long as we the people can view the whole meeting ? Are these meetings not exactly to allow public scrutiny ? The chairman of the meeting has the power to curb meaningless 'free speaking' and if this power is abused, it will soon become obvious exactly because it's transparent.

    • @johannesbekker1970
      @johannesbekker1970 4 роки тому +1

    I watched this from the U.S. over the years and I've always had one question for the pro-Euro types who are now disenchanted, namely: what did you think was going to happen? A democratic, transparent, orderly, efficient political body from UNACCOUNTABLE bureaucrats? That idea defies all logic and experience. It's like sticking your arm into the lion's cage and being shocked when it gets torn off. Sensible people understood the danger from day one, and warned about it. You can "google it" as the kids say. Now you've got a mess of an oligarchical superstructure insinuating itself into thousands of nooks and crannies where they assured you they wouldn't. Let me spell this out for you: you were deceived. That was the plan all along. Wake up.

      I also think people look at this kind of pragmatic. The madmen who gave us the wars in Iraq, Libya, Syria, etc. don't operate within the EU. EU transparency won't stop the corrupt and deformed. This is not an argument against transparency, but rather that there are things that are a thousand billion times worse and more pressing. Like war criminals Bush and Blair slaughtering thousands of women and children and still are unaccountable.

    I am French and I support your initiative. Transparency in collective decision making is not the best but the *only* way to achieve democracy in our representative system.

    WELL DONE, YANIS! EXPOSE THEM! We all belong to the European family. We will stick together. But not with an authoritative, terrorizing EU! I twittered your vid in our three languages. They need to know. Greets and thanks from Switzerland.

    Yanis, they are just dictators who what total control. However they could not control the fact that you were far too smart for them. I love your videos and find what you say extremely ‘eye opening’. Thank you.
