Fantastic sum up. The establishment played this expertly. Biden wins having no platform promises to keep . Status quo returns. Dems crush Bernies supporters . Republicans shed Trump and avoid blame from the Republican base. Dems sully their voters by forcing them to vote for someone BLM and #metoo should despise. Evil but brilliant campaign

I would like to add a perspective to things we should be concerned with besides corrupt politicians and far right fascism. Most of us are unwittingly supporting far right fascism that is supported and encouraged by the US around the world. We are simply oblivious to it.
I work with people who socially tilt right and they love to hate on BLM, they love to hate on single payer because they think it will make us all broke, they love to consume that propaganda/entertainment and they know what politicians they think they should fear. Funny thing is, according to them, Biden and Harris are just as extreme as any lefty progressive because this is what they heard the last time they watched TV or looked at their favorite website. And another thing that I've noticed is life long Democrats who utterly hate Trump fear that Biden is going to go too far left. Where do they get this nonsense? Biden could be a Republican. They also have distorted ideas about immigration and terrorism but the fake news on these is the same in the center or the neoliberal left.
These good people simply have a corporate media toxicity infection. These folks are even sympathetic to Trump's emboldening of white militant groups who are feeding off of racial tension, this is where things can get ugly fast. This is part of a media infection, because the media has shown that it will take no responsibility if the President acts like a fascist. But these people I work with are genuinely respectful and appreciative of their black co-workers despite real or perceived cultural differences.
Our main problems are corporate/MIC media and its totally undemocratic exercise of power over facts, information, narratives, context, representation of America, representation of the world, representation of values, representation of good and bad etc etc. Impunity in demonizing innocent people, impunity in ignoring ethical responsibility. Having the ethics of a legal team defending wanton poisoning of communities.
If you look at the history of television you will see an interesting parallel with the history of extremist economic thinking, dismantling of worker unions, the demonizing of the welfare state and those whom it helps, perverted values of success and spectacle, the use of cable TV for extremist propaganda and censorship of critical thinking. I'm only up to the nineties. The last twenty years have seen extreme growth and spread in usage and consolidation of messaging. And that is if you look at it only on a macro level. If you look at how it is managed on a micro level, it resembles how the intelligence community behaves. It will meticulously work to distract, distort, and confuse any one single idea until it loses all of its clarity or meaning or influence. And it will be doing this automatically soon if it isn't already. So these are real reasons, not a dystopian fantasy.
The new Space Force is basically a project to keep up the flow of trillions in private revenue for taxpayer funded monopoly R&D as well as obese profits. It is also an effective tool for domestic propaganda and an exhibition of emperial power. The US is becoming the anti-China China.
And as though it has been game planning for the last year corporate MSM is pivoting to the Biden WH with the staging of the "how to deal with the far left faction of the party" issue. I've noticed already the scripts being used to set this up. The media regime will be approaching this production similar to the Russia-gate production. And I wouldn't doubt it if bogus "intelligence" from "multiple intelligence sources" makes a showing for this cause. In fact Russia influence was thrown around when it was time to shut down Bernie. The Corbyn antisemetic slander is only effective with a fully bias corporate media.
The challenge to this observation is how alien the idea of being without corporate media is. And most if not all of us have never been without it. This makes it harder to see. And despite the toxicity and the manipulation most of us are dependent on it and most of us are bewitched.

Its been a hypothesis of mine for a while now, that science evolved before we achieved social emancipation from over accumulated power structures. Which means that the rich and powerful incorporate it and use it as they see fit, including psychology, which has been used since Freud in the 1920s by figures such as Edward Bernays, and then later on, behaviorism and cognitive science. That, including the development of the means of mass communication and surveillance, perfecting the business of manipulation of behavior and thought. The power harvested from the knowledge of science is too great, we needed a much more mature culture, free enough from the constraints of the primitive drives that move the lives of the super rich, and their cultural inheritance, in order to have a better chance at saving ourselves from a dystopian future. I hope Im wrong about this, but as you pointed out, things dont look great.

    • @williams.1980

The only people who buy into stupid statements like that are people who don't know better. That is why there is so much anti-socialism and anti-Marxist propaganda targeting young people who are a threat to corporate/Wall St handouts and the reality of politicians that have enough support from average people they are not dependent on corps and Wall St. These young people would be voting for Sanders if he wasn't stabbed in the back by Wall St, DNC, Biden, Obama, CIA, corporate news. In fact maybe this weird "evil" spouting dunce is part of the same PR movement as the one I was describing above. They like to call things evil but they have nothing of substance to say. They are like people who burn witches because their circumstances suck and they get other people to join them because there are so many ignorant desperate people who are easily recruited. (an important condition for MSM to work well) Notice I was describing how the corporate news, big tech, stock market, Fed handouts, MIC private revenue etc. are related. Our leaders are not holding political office, the real leaders are orchestrating Washington and the elections. They are the private for profit MIC, CIA, Wall St and fossil fuel energy and their think tanks who help the media with crafting propaganda and messaging for the public. Why else would a Marxism hating troll be watching a Varufakis video and bringing up Marxism out of the blue?

They have radicalised the economy by subjugating all social demands and needs to their 'free market' dogma. Their only excuse is some hollow identity politics which they have abstracted from the nexus of political struggles and treat in isolation from and over and above socio-economic struggles. I'm with you Yanis, for the most part, but perhaps your take is too pessimistic. For one thing when Trump won 306 to 223 electoral votes (and lost the popular vote by over 3 million) he described it as a "landslide". Even compensating for Trump's proclivity for exaggeration, I don't think that margin can be described as thin. This is the same margin Biden attained, but in Biden's case it is reinforced with a popular vote margin in excess of 5 million. If you are referring to the small margins in individual states like Arizona and Florida, that's a function of the polarisation of the US population, and is now baked into the system, but for Biden to have prevailed in those states represents a massive upset. As for the Senate, I looks likely that the Republicans will retain control, although that is by no means certain.

Radical is a bad thing in the right wing mind that has a cultural association with the movements of the sixties which among people who culturally associate with conservatism was an evil destructive time in America’s past which brought about “cancel culture” and “PC” and a break down of “traditional (white mostly Protestant conservative in their mind) values.” Anything even very modestly liberal or progressive is considered “radical left” which in any other part of the world wouldn’t be considered very left at all. Speaks to a extreme right ward shift since the 70’s in American political culture.

Direct democracy is the only way to secure that parties as the Democrats dont use well sounding party programs to mislead the population, but keeping the status quo j as you said it). I believe the way to reach the goal of a human society lies in the development of out of parlament structures, that follow the rules of direct democracy. The way through the political parlamentary system by aprogrssive party could definitely help, but we should proceed in both ways because of the uncertainty of success in a parlamentary corrupt system. If we vote with our purse everyday we can make a change, if we dedicate our workforce only in the construction of out of the system structures, we might suceed.

Surely things are not as bad as you suggest. First, the Senate balance of power cannot be known until January with a run-off of two seats in Georgia -- which, if won by Democrats, would make the Senate 50:50 with a casting vote by Kamala Harris as vice president (elect). This gives Democrats in Georgia -- where Biden has effectively won despite a recount -- enormous incentive to get eg new young voters registered and to get the vote out. As for Biden representing only big business, I don't think so. Despite divisions in his party he is well aware of the importance of retaining support from the left and, having won the election, is less dependent on corporate funding for campaigning -- though he may be compromised like all candidates by pre-election promises. The threat from white supremacist armed "militias" urged on by 70 million aggrieved Trumpists of whom nearly 80 percent believe the election was "stolen", seems much more serious.

I'm a leftish retired (white) American lawyer who has been a fan of ours for many years, but I disagree with almost every word of your latest video. First of all, Sanders was not defeated by some secret conspiracy of corporate forces but by his own repellant personality, which consisted of endless, full-volume screaming on one subject only, which is economic injustice. I entirely agree with his POV but I could not stand him as a candidate, and I voted for EW. And I remind you that Democracy depends on the support of actual voters, and Sanders failed to even make a tiny DENT in the Democrats most important constituency, which is Black voters, and Black women specifically. Second, you have made a lot of assumptions about Joe Biden which have no basis in fact. First of all, he gets 5 stars for deposing the loony SOB in the White House. Second, you have no basis whatsoever for concluding that he is going to be just another voice of corporate America. In order to win, he forged a brilliant coalition that spans the spectrum from AOC to Conor Lamb, and he has shown himself entirely open to the ideas of the left. I could go on, but you get the idea. You do yourself a great disservice by this kind of uninformed screed. Best for you to give our new President a chance. We must live up to the pursuit of DEMOCRACY which is not about a candidate or a party. It’s about the will of the voters deciding the outcome of an election.
