Can you make a rig out of everything that scored the best out of these kinds of videos?
StianTrana great idea!!
yes do this please
Best comment.
The problem with these tests is that they're really only relevant to the amp being used.
It would be a constantly growing rig if they keep up the videos!
7:53
Rob: "Could you turn it off a minute?"
Lee: *turns pedal off*
Rob: "That's better."
OH MAN😂
Pretty much the same thing was said in the Miku video...
He couldn’t even play properly, he seemed to despise it immediately
Had the walrus been the first pedal played, the score would be totally different. No way the walrus sounded that much different from the tumnus.
How about a "BOSS vs. Boutique" blindfolded shootout video?
Basic vs boss vs boutique
Curse you all! Before watching this video I didn't really care about a Klon or a Klone. Now I'm hunting for them online. This is why I stay broke! Seriously love these vids guys. You've taught me quite a bit over the years. Great work and keep em coming!
Mosky Golden Horse
Try the Decibelics Golden Horse. Expensive, boutique, and absolutely a perfect replacement for a Klon. Watch the videos of it being compared to a real Klon. It is my favorite and always on pedal.
@@jamescloonan5274 Thanks boss. I'll give it a look.
Just bought a 20 $ one off of wish after checking out Music is Win’s video on Klones clones loll and the 20$ one actually sounded awesome can’t wait to try it lol
It makes me happy whenever someone plays a Nuno riff.
And especially happy when they play the BEST Nuno riff.
“The waptian” has a whole new meaning these days
Hey guys, I just wanna say I'm LOVING these pedal "blindfold" challenges. Thanks for doing them. It's really giving me an edge on my pedal choices!
You guys rock!
Im less than a minute into the video and it's already my favorite youtube video ever.
you never saw the mermaid montage a guy did for xtc's mermaid smiled around '03-it was taken down. number two is my favourite kitty kat klassicks!
???? what
You have limited web access then xD
Finally some love for SGs
These blindfold videos are great, most unbiased and interesting reviews on UA-cam
*NO CHAPMAN OR VICTORY WAS USED IN THIS VIDEO*
Today, the internet is proud...
Except for Rob Chapman.
Having had a tumnus and returned it for it just not being my thing. The RYRA sounded great and looked cool like the original klon
Just ordered a Tumnus from these guys that I’ve been hankering after for ages. Big fan of my Soul Food, but I just had to get one. Can’t wait to try it.
The Taco+Tumnus is the best tone I've heard on this channel.
I like this new format blindfold shot out. fast and fun to watch.
Great choices Rob your ears are undeniably good! I have the Oxblood and love it but that Tumnus was also sweet.
Awesome, I bought a oxblood two years ago, and it's still my favourite pedal
We have to say, we whole heartedly approve of that t-shirt Lee! ❤️🤘
Great video as always!
I love that the captions sometimes pick up the guitar playing as applause
SG Rob is best Rob
SG's are extremely versatile when it comes to sound. Had a 1975 or so for 3 years from 77 to 80. Sad to say I was young and dumb and sold it for 140.00 in 1980.
Deluxe Memory Man sorry to hear 😭
Me too.
Deluxe Memory Man All man that sucks! To be older and wise, we first have to be young and dumb.
Just got my first vintage sg 1980 it's just a beast. My 3rd gibson, and all sgs.
Great video. Elektron's Analog drive has also a very nice Klon style drive.
Robs playing was killer! Having started a channel recently myself (not under this name) it's really hard to consistently come up with things to play especially if your tired/not in the mood/shooting back to back and he always does a great job, helps when you can fall back on a back catalogue of awesome riffs you've written too! :)
Rob's pinch harmonic game is nailed down tight!
I loved the tone of the ryra for some reason that thick tone with still that super nice tone
Another great test is “which sounds best in a mix”
This entire video is just guitar tone porn, it’s so glorious and amazing.
Oh guys i just love you for such ridiculous things like this intro! 😂
Greetings from Singapore! Your videos are amazing! :)
Greetings... Thank you Daniel.
Andertons Music Co and now greetings from Hong Kong! Still amazing!
Amp tone 3:46
Wampler Tumnus 3:57
Walrus Voyager 7:10
RYRA Klone 10:13
Klon KTR 13:33
Tone City Bad Horse 16:33
EHX Soul Food 19:50
J Rockett Archer 22:47
Keeley Oxblood 25:22
Mythos Mjolnir 28:08
JHS Soul Food Mod 31:13
Sometimes Rob just crushes some guitar licks during these pedal challenges.
Nels Lindahl I think we're seeing him at his peak after him and Rabea have just done those US guitar clinics.
Blindfold videos = the best videos
Oxblood was the best for me - doesn't sound like a Klon though. Out of the Klones, the KTR and the Ryra were my favourites.
Love it! I have the Tumnus, no regrets here. Shopping for the Oxblood, sounded more Rat-y to me thought, seems like a nice wide spectrum overdrive/distortion pedal.
Credit to Chappers on that SG. Sounds exactly like an SG should. Love it.
I have watched many or most of the vids from Andertons on Klon like pedals. My take is that I prefer Danish Pete’s playing style - more nuanced and melodic, but Chapper’s ear is much more refined and discerning….I trust Chappers ear implicitly, even though his playing too metal orientated
I wish Pete and Rabea had reviewed these pedals .. Their tone and style of playing is more resonant with mine.
The RYRA orOxblood for me, killer tones!
Had a soul food once, didn't like it. I feel the same now. (Gave it to a mate who is making better sounds with it than I ever did though, so it was probably me.)
Rob's ear is so keen, maybe he should become a sound engineer. He knows tone for sure.
Apparently when Chappers called the Oxblood out as what he thought was the Mythos Klon, he had forgotten that the Captain told him that there were a couple of switches on the Oxblood. That was almost a dead give away for Oxblood or a JHS Custom Shop Mod of an EHX Soul Food. The KTR is Finnegan's remake of the original, glad it got the highest score. I think the Tumnus would need to be re-evaluated, because it was the first, there was nothing to really compare it to, although at a certain point that frame of reference is lost over 40 minutes with 10 Klons. I've listened to so many Klons to try to figure out which one I wanted recently, I can understand being Kloned out.
Of the 3 at the very end, I liked the KTR myself, I thought the Oxblood was 2nd best of those 3 and the Tumnus a close 3rd. Every review & even Wampler himself, says the Tumnus is Wampler's own personal spin on a Klon, Wampler says he doesn't like to make a 1:1 clone copy, tends to add or deduct what he likes or dislikes from a clone to make it a Wampler pedal. FWIW, I heard enough in a Mosky Silver Horse review to go with a sub $ 30 Klon clone. That one has a soft & hard clipping switch, so it's probably would score somewhere in the range of any of these pedals. Would be interesting to revisit this and throw the Mosky Silver or Golden Horse into the mix. I don't think it would be as bad a score as the Walrus did, and easily as good as the Bad Horse ?
I clicked on this and then saw it was a 40 minute video. BONUS! No need for me to watch TV when I can watch these guys and learn something. I have owned a few of these and love the reviews. Thanks from USA
Robert, thanks for speaking on this. You are truly a living LEGEND!!!
Some of the stuff Rob was playing is making me crave a new Dorje album so bad
i own a bad horse and I must say its best bang for buck. Great sounding pedal
That intro was epic!
I too have had this pedal since its release, and it's still on my boards, and also an original Klon C. . . I love them both! I think Robert probably remembers me from Hawaii; and I'm happy that I acquired many of his superb pedals. Six of them are currently on my boards. You can't go wrong with RK pedals! Keep up the great work Robert!
Chappers' favourite riff is "just got paid" by ZZ Top! Plays it almost every time) Great tune and superb band by the way!!!)))
The Keeleys pedals are really amazing. I have 3 and they are my favorites
They should have included a Klon model in a Helix FX :D
Digital...
The Helix Minotaur (Klon) model is excellent.
actually it would be nice to see how good or bad the digital vs.analog
TCaad10 mine too!
I would have added the Soul Food Bass, in my opinion its even better for guitar than it is for bass.
Ok now I want an Oxblood pedal too. It DID sound great...That combo of SG into the Pink Taco was such a perfect fit too,...the pedal just seemed to really accentuate and take into uber-phat land that trademark and distinctive SG tonality....the three just sing, scream and grind together. Nice!
So the KTR brings out Nuno! 🤘🏼
MXR Sugar Drive deserves to be in this! I demand you do it again!
I’ve had some success with the walrus voyager with the same final settings. Interesting to hear it through a marshall relative to my ‘57 deluxe reverb. I’ve been using it to push the high end of the sound and have been swapping out a second overdrive behind the voyager. Helps with a really well rounded, thick sound and cuts through a mix well.
Damn...i love that SG
I think the position of the Volume makes more of a difference in tonal quality more than anything else, the Oxblood changed completely. If Lee had played around with the volume knobs on the last few pedals, would have been a different outcome. Thanks for putting this up guys, nice to hear these all together! Waiting for pt. 2 with pedals like Matthews Architect, Tumnus v2, maybe even the Helix version! Cheers!
I swear Rob plays the riff of "Just Got Paid" by ZZ Top in every challenge
Been waiting a loong time for this!!!
I like all these crazy blindfold tests, this pedal one has been quite informative for me on the tones of the pedals in question give out. Very helpful if your local guitar shop is a small business and can't stock every pedal available from the dealers they use.
Funny thing, most famous guitar players bought their signature sound equipment from small shops, other players they know etc. From their stories at least.
Frits van Zanten I come online to see what's new and different then go hit the local guy up to see if he can get a hold of what I'm looking for. You always pay £10-20 more on a lot of things but I don't mind because I'm supporting a local business on my doorstep.
I have a Voyager and I must say that it works way better as more of a clean boost, which is what I think it’s designed for anyways. It has a great musical top end, and great mid push.
33:16 I agree with Lee (and not just because it's the one klone I own). The Archer Ikon is a fantastic pedal and, if I'm not mistaken, is from the people who actually built the KTR.
I love these videos, I love the engament that Robert Keeley does, it's so rare for people to come in to the ocmments and tell us about their work and at the end of the day this one proves why rob thought it was the best. A clone with ideas.
The Tumnus is amazing!
Do a marshall in a box blindfold challenge
yeah a plexi challenge would be fun to watch
RYRA is the King Klon Klone. Some great pedals here, but as far as sounding the most like a Centaur... It's the RYRA
I share your opinion. I do need to ask though, what about the KTR? It is a Klon-made product that is basically a centaur with more easy to find and easier to assemble components.
Wolf Warren to my knowledge, it’s same components, just with an easier assembly, so their easier to produce
GamingDC the diodes are the same, but the rest of it (while maintaining the same values) are surface mount vs the traditional hole-through components of the centaur and other boutique pedals.
EPIC INTRO!!!
"Tumnus" is, far and away, the best name. Maybe the best-named pedal of all time.
I just bought a plus top pro and now I'm liking the sound and look of that SG, think my holiday spending money could take a hit!!
Thanks, that was very helpful. I've narrowed it down to the Tumnus or Archer.
dumble klone pedals next, I'm intrigued to hear that!!!!
40:52 "Oop, catch..." So smooth!
J Rocket Archer Ikon and Mythos Mjolnir were best to my ears.
Ryra and Wampler pretty legit too
@@fuckenps3 Again...to my ears. Perhaps not to yours.
I personally thought that all of these pedals sounded good to a greater or a lesser degree. With the exception of the Tone City pedal...which I didn't care for at all. And the Walrus, which I found somewhat underwhelming. But those two were outstanding to me.
This is absolutely glorious
i personally thought the ryra was the best sound and most accurate with the acceptation it has more bass then the tumnus then the ktr
james dacus Agree, not that it's better than the others but it was my favourite. Ktr was good too.
These recent videos have got me wanting some pink taco so godamn much
Rob would really love the Tumnus deluxe. So good
i want to thank you for this video..this is the perfect one for comparing klon clones ,.. and i will probably buy a Keeley oxblood pedal.. thanks again..
update.. bought a Oxblood.. didn't like the battery lack of space.-> got a Rockett Ikon.. ate batteries and was a bit blah -> got back to the Oxblood and this one seems ok
for battery space and has lots of tone..
I try blindfold and my top 3 are wampler tumnus, mythos mjolnir, jhs soul food mod. Please make another one version this blindfold challenge with more clean amp like fender or single coil pickup
For sure the winner here was that pink taco. Holy balls that sounded great. Pretty sure it just needed a clean boost!
That SG is really cool. Suits you rob. You vibed on it.
My favorite is when rob has the same thoughts of the soul food. But lee had no idea what the mods did, so he ruined it's chances ! In the other clipping modes I think rob would of liked it more
I always keep eyecontact with Rob when Captain ignores or misses a joke. I always win the staredown. Step it up Rob!
Classic '57's in the SG? P'ups make a big difference.
To a consumer a "clone" means it sounds the same- to a maker a "clone" means that it's a copy of an existing circuit that sounds the same- 2 different things. I think that's the confusion with the Ox Blood- it sounds the same as a klon, but it achieves that tone in a different way and similarity wasn't intentional.
I always get a kick out of seeing Lee crack up and put his hands over his face 😂
Man that Friedman sounds amazing. Skip the pedals just crank that amp lol.
What model is it?
pink taco combo
Skip the pedals? Get a grip! I still get the "amazing" tone of the Friedman, even while embellishing with a few pedals! Dirty Shirley+. lol
@@TheBoogiesurfer I like the Dirty Shirley amp better than the Pink Taco amp as far as Friedmans go
Ya. I’m a huge dirty Shirley fan but best or better is completely subjective., best ,”for you” , better “for. You” is unarguable but so many people play through all of Dave’s amps and don’t chose the dirty Shirley
What is the tune at 4:03 , where Rob tries out Tumnus for the first time? Great video as always!
You guys are already cool, but the Star Wars bit makes you a million times cooler.
I love that you guys are doing so many of these, they work so well as both entertainment (for obvious reasons) and as ads, since we're getting pure chappers opinion to know whats good. EHX are probably making so much money from the sales this is generating for their pedals lol
That SG sounds beauteous.
Please do this for Dumble clone pedals next!
I think the final shootout with the 3 pedals should have been done by plugging them in separately or into separate loops, the buffers in the Tumnus and the KTR (assuming they weren’t switched to TB) would be coloring the resulting tones
'can you turn it off a minute?', 'that's better'. slight burn there LUL
Hellooooo, good gentlemen. Never paid attention to comment section before, but how about making a complete blindfol video of some pedals, so that even viewers won't be able to see anything until reveal? I think it must be fun when any of us will be as surprised as any of you.
I personally like to listen to these videos while walking somewhere in my headphones with a smartphone in a pocket.
Would have been great to have included the MXR Sugar Drive
I use an OxBlood it’s an awesome amazing sounding pedal I love it
I can't help wondering if the pedals that sounded better with the gain down and the volume up just improved because they were hitting that sweet, already-breaking-up Friedman amp harder. Maybe they should've thrown in a clean boost to see if Mr. C liked it best. :)
The Tumnus was my favorite. Have to put it on my wish list....
Good job guys I'm a big fan of Anderson's TV but you both are the star if I had anything to wish for it would be more lessons from you both they have helped me greatly with my playing
This editor needs a raise...
Didn't crank the Tumnus or the RYRA this was an unfair comparison.
Basically, gave away that the oxblood wasn't a klon klone, but it does that thing. Doesn't know what to do with the JHS, wonders why the score is 1.2 points less than the original EHX.
What a beautiful sg.
I demand you publish the uncensored version!
