Angus said when they hired Cliff, it was because his style was a good fit, and he was a very good bassist. They also thought his good looks would attract more women fans. lol
I agree he deserves more recognition, but it must also be pretty cool to be in one of the biggest rock bands in history, and still largely be able to lead a normal life outside the constant public eye

The thing I love about AC/DC is that they make me feel like I've been friends with them for years, even though I haven't met them. I feel like I'm having a conversation with them when I watch stuff like interviews even though I've never been able to say anything to them. They always puts a smile on my face and make me happy, ever since I first got into AC/DC before I could walk. thank you AC/DC. You've inspired me as a 17 year old to pick up my guitar, microphone, drums and bass and give it my best shot to make more rock n roll in the world.
Cliff is pure class, thanks for all the great albums and live gigs, enjoy your retirement. AC/DC can stop now, nothing else to prove, forever in history.
PsychedelicFerret Who are you to say it's not AC/DC anymore? Angus fucking Young says it is, so guess what, IT IS. And why wasn't it not ACDC anymore when Bon left? Why is Brian replacing Bon acceptable but not Axl replacing Brian? Or Cliff replacing Mark Evans? Was it not ACDC in 1988 when Stevie took over for Malcolm on the Blow Up Your Video tour?
only a fool would tell a rock band like acdc that is selling out stadium tours to stop. They are the last real rock band there is , if you don't like them anymore then go away and pretend they are not there while the rest of us can rock on and enjoy for the next 10 years hopefully.
You`re a dope. The whole machine of AC/DC is Malcolm. Without Malcolm AC/DC as we have known them for 40 years are gone. Yes Stevie replaced Mal for the Northern American leg in 1988 but it was for concerts not recording. Huge fucking difference. Bon didnt leave AC/DC you fuckwit, he died. Mal wanted a bassist that would do backing vocals thats why Cliff came in & Mark exited. Phil Rudd will only ever be the right & true drummer for AC/DC. No other drummer they have had has the swing that Phil has that is needed for the AC/DC sound. So yes idiot.. No Brian, Mal, Cliff or Phil = NO AC/DC !!!!!

AC/DC as individuals are underrated which is crazy as hell. They never got the press they should have here in the U.S. because of Tipper Gore and her bullshit vendetta against their music. They have been my favorite band for 44 yrs.
MarkanVaran7. The bass on Shot Down in Flames is not a "groove". The bass on that song is the Drive. It drives the verses and lays back on the chorus. Just pure effin 8s the whole way through except for the chorus. It's really the epitome of rock bass or how it should be. You can lose yourself and never miss a movement. Just listen to the guitars for your movements. The whole song itself is so complex in its simplicity that it's almost magic. If you can play bass it seems natural even at the end hitting the twelfth fret on the G string and then the A string with a slide down. You don't even have to think about it too much. This is probably my favorite ACDC songs. To play and listen to.
Cliff is the unsung hero of the band. Very quite and humble guy who just goes out there, stands back in the wings and rocks with the best rock band ever. Who wouldn't give their right nut to play with this band, for 100,000 people, just once. He got to do it for 40 years.
Always loved Cliff’s attitude, always positive, never self absorbed, always complimentary of others …the brother is a class act, through and through and one of the best bass players in Rock Music history.
Cliff is a legend, a grand, great, phenomenal. He does not get the attention and praise he deserves. He deserves so much more than what some people think.
This is so true. In all my years of listening to rock it seems like most of the time the bassist is least shown or spoken about. They all deserve equal recognition as they are the driving force behind the band.
in this day and age, it is so nice to see how much respect and appreciation these extremely talented musicians has for one another! they truly understand each other's role, value and love playing their music.
AC/DC is more family to each other than most actual families are. God bless them. One class act in my book. You just don't see that in bands these days. Long live Angus and AC/DC.
For me cliff's greatest song where he did his greatest bass player was on a song from his first album ever with AC/DC their 1978 album powerage on the track sin city he had this jazz thing going on midway through the song and it actually sounded awesome. There will never be another bass player like cliff he truly is one of a kind 🤘🤘
So much love for the man and the art... totally one of my top 3 all time bass heroes. I don't care WHAT you do.. to do it for forty years and become increasingly loved all the time for what you do... BECAUSE YOU LOVE IT TOO?? I respect the hell out of this man. What a great attitude.
I think he gets plenty fair acknowledgement for what he does... which is... not much, besides like he said himself "support the guitars" and "stay out of Angus' way" lol!!!
Look for benefit shows in Fort Myers. He still does them occasionally....That's where I met him. Totally a Class Act. He was super nice to me and my lady.
As a bassist Cliff Williams is a model for me and non-bassist people might think that his bass Line are simple because he plays few notes but the to mix rythm and his down picking playing style is so hard to keep on just on track (one of the most difficult is giving the dog a bone) so he needs more recognisation because he’s a legend and one of the greatest bassist in rock history🤟🤟🔥⚡️
They really took off with Cliff on bass. The perfect pick! He had that certain less is more thing to add. Very underrated as a bass player, Cliff Williams! Absolutely not ego driven like todays lead bassists.
Cliff thanks for coming back we (the fans once again) appreciate you for what you do for the band and are happy your back! Even if it is temporary so I’ve heard online? I don’t know if I believe everything I hear online? Whoever they get next if they do get another person or if you decide to stay just know us the true fans support whatever you decide to do!🤘🎸🤘🎸 and we salute you!
Cliff doesn’t get as much of the praise as some of the others, but he really should. I’ll say this, I’d be nowhere near as thrilled to be watching an AC/DC show and see anyone else but him in that position.
Cliff, I have been listening to you since 1977 so I have been with you since you started. You are a great bassist. Have been able to enjoy the band for all these years and it has been one hell of a ride. Thank you. Long live AC/DC.
He was hiding his true feelings in this interview because he left shortly after this because he said it just wasn't the same without Phil and Brian, and that's why he came back now because they are back, and the new album kicks ass I think it's the best album since Back in Black.
Ciff gracias por volver ala banda sabia que si volvian vos ibas a estar se que por tu salud no estaras en esta gira pero siempre presente en el corazon de los que llevamos a acdc en el corazon 50 años la historia continua

Cliff really deserves more recognition and credit he keeps the tempo going. He is my favorite bassist and my big inspiration to bass guitar.

Happy birthday to the nicest bass player...Cliff, 73 years old. 🎂
All of the AcDc band mates are so polite and humble, soft spoken. You'd never guess they were rock n roll stars if you didn't know them.
Unless you saw their hairdos. ;)

Cliff seems pretty cool. He was always part of pulse, the sound, the feel, the drive of the band. Worth a closer listen than he sometimes is deemed.
Cliff is pure class, thanks for all the great albums and live gigs, enjoy your retirement. AC/DC can stop now, nothing else to prove, forever in history.
They've had nothing to prove since Back in Black. They are still doing it because it's what they love. Who are you to tell them to stop?
Because it's not AC/DC anymore. Whithout Malcolm, Brian and Cliff, it's a tribute band.
PsychedelicFerret Who are you to say it's not AC/DC anymore? Angus fucking Young says it is, so guess what, IT IS.

Very underrated bass guitarist. His bass on shot down in flames for example is marvelous. That groove...
AC/DC as individuals are underrated which is crazy as hell. They never got the press they should have here in the U.S. because of Tipper Gore and her bullshit vendetta against their music. They have been my favorite band for 44 yrs.

Cliff is a legend, a grand, great, phenomenal. He does not get the attention and praise he deserves. He deserves so much more than what some people think.
One of the best rocking bands of all time.
Thank you Cliff for coming out of retirement to reform the band in 2018-2019 to give us an excellent album in late 2020.
Legendary band.. I've been a fan since 1978
Since 1976 here.
I don't know that AC/DC could have ever found anyone better for the job!!!
He’s really underrated as an AC/DC band member. Most people overlook him and go to Angus, Malcolm, and Brian, and of course Bon too.
This is so true. In all my years of listening to rock it seems like most of the time the bassist is least shown or spoken about. They all deserve equal recognition as they are the driving force behind the band.
Which means Phil - who is great - is underrated as well.
AC/DC so good
