I could listen all day to Eric tell stories
Just what I wanted to say!
I know! He gets so into them.
You don't know how rare this is. He NEVER really has spoken about his equipment. This is a gear heads dream. Would love to hear him tell more stores.
Can anyone tell me what fret hes got his fingers on during this at 1:15 ? I appreciate it.
@@ParsonWilkerson 7 fret e-string 8 fret b-string. It comes out of the bending a minor third (or a #9 if you will) against the 5th of the E7-chord.
The Strat is definitely his home. He is so much more into this than the demo of the Les Paul, IMHO. A beautiful player.
It probably is his home. I think the man just preferred the Strat, for probably several reasons. I think he wanted to get away from the whole blues-rock scene of the 60s. Although I'm not a Strat-hater by any means, I wish he had stuck with Gibsons. His most seminal work was done using those guitars. The sound of the Les Paul in the other video is gorgeous, and when Clapton did his blues tours in the mid-90s he pulled out the 335. That's his real home, but he ran away from it for his own reasons. At any rate in the world of rock guitar it's Clapton and Hendrix and then everybody else imo, whatever the brand.
@folderol8487 I have to disagree. I like it when he plays a strat. He has a creamier, warmer tone. It sounds more like him, Clapton on a plate serving up the blues.
What I have always liked about Clapton is the fact Eric can do it all. Great player, song writer and singer. I can't imagine a world without his playing in it.
I love how he’s a god on the guitar, but still talks about his hero’s and who inspires him. So humble and so talented. Favorite guitarist of all time for me
I have this same problem, every time I sit in my chair to play my Tele the damn photographers, reporters and paparazzi are always hassling me ; )
Once upon a time in London, it wasn't unusual to see graffiti everywhere that said: "Clapton is God!"
then hendrix came
Osasmuede aigbe lol
I don't understand why people compare Clapton to God. Ok, He is God but He isn't Eric Clapton!
@@zelesluk1 remember the titanic was said to be unsinkable
Anyone else here after seeing Rob Chapman's recent video? 😃
Yes and I call B.S. on his whole lie
Yes Sir!!
@@electricgypsyblues4761 Very negative comment mate. Why do you think he is lying?
@petergedd9330 cause he has not given any proof he was the cameraman. Plus his lying record backs up my accusations
@@petergedd9330 don’t feed the troll.
Prayed to God this week and asked Him to please grant Eric another 50 years on this earth.
Same for Paul McCartney
Well one year later, so far. So good
I love eric clapton. he'll always be my main guitar idol. haters gonna hate. Rock on my man!
and a big Amen from me

#happybirthday Eric Clapton! In this clip from 2013 Eric talks about his first Fender Guitar Stratocaster, "Brownie."
Mmmmmm. Brownies.
LORD SHIT !!! THE MAN !!! CLAP MAN LIVES !!!!! 1W1ITH bb.King !!!!!! whats blue he is !!!!!!!!
Awesome Rundown.. Thanks Eric.. Happy Birthday
I can't tell what I love more: his storytelling or his guitar playing
I dread the day that we don’t hear Eric playing anymore. He has been my musical hero since I discovered him in 1967. Wonderful guitarist. He made me want to play a guitar but I realized after several years I had absolutely no talent for it. I own every record he’s made and listen to them all the time, plus I’ve been fortunate to have seen him in Derek and the Dominoes and 3 times in the 2000’s. The thing I like about his performances is he always has top notch musicians in his bands and lets them shine too,it’s not all about look at me,I’m Eric Clapton! A very generous guy. God bless you Eric, thanks for a lifetime of wonderful music!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
If you have never really paid attention to Eric when he speaks, but only when he plays, you are missing out on THE MAN, HIMSELF. He is the human map of rock and blues guitar.
Always Love to hear Clapton play, he has the touch, feel, mojo or whatever You want to call it
He's got the blues that's the word
He knows exactly what he wants to sound like and he does it, every time.
The Strat is my all time favorite guitar to play. The Strat plus in particular is the best stage guitar I’ve ever used. I love my gibsons and Ibanez guitars as well, but the Strat is like a reliable old friend who has never let me down.
I can't live without Eric
GOD!
great
Dont say that or God will take your life away before Clapton's life.
@@ViniciusFiocco but Clapton is god
So 86 people don't like the strat or the amp. Coz there's no way you can dislike clapton
Saurabh Sankalecha How did you go from Claptons playing to Trump supporters?
Jim Holmberg What did i do wrong?
Troll!
Saurabh Sankalecha that was an epic comment. 😂
I can
he's sucha nice guy, he's not a showboat where he cares only about his ego. He gives all these older people a huge stage and audience to play for along with all the praise he gives them.
I'm very very glad to see Eric feeling comfortable and smiling... it's amazing that a guitar gives him back a lot of memories... good memories, and gives him a honest smile... this special guitar made my day.
From Chile, hugs to everyone.
I met Buddy Guy. right here in Florida where I live in may.
what a wonderful man and musician. I love Eric more then any other musician. .would love to meet him. I even like the way he talks. and he has smooth movements. the way he is as a person ; is the way he is as a musician. I could watch him all day. I don't know what it is
No better compliment than his excitement after that first lick. They did an awesome job there.
D'you know! This bloke could make a reasonable living playing the blues. He's half-good with a Guitar.
yeah... like you could do better
It would seem that there is no sense of humour in your house!
+Carmelo Alcantara ...Wow man. You need to get off the internet and go outside.
He was being ironic, you knucklehead.
He can't help being an illiterate imbecile. Take a great big lump of no notice.
I like and own many guitars, but the Fender Stratocaster is and will always be my very favorite. It is still so popular with so many because it was the first electric guitar that was designed based totally on the input and needs of touring musicians. Thanks Leo Fender for caring about what we think. By the way. Old guys use picks. They can play with or without one. Sometimes a pick is great, and sometimes they just get in the way.
EricBlackmonGuitar Not quite. The Stratocaster was more based on the big feature of the Telecaster which made it so profitable. It’s cheap, and extremely easy to make.
Unless your mark knopfler
i respect the strat, but i can't stand playing it.
I respect the Strat and Tele, but I *love* the ES-335.
The man is mortal.......sitting there just like any of us who own Strats .......noodling away.
But his gift is immense and he has lived the life.
A national treasure and an articulate man.
Could listen to him all day
I could listen to him talk about guitars and the history behind them just as much as listening to him play them, and I live not far to where he was born in Ripley surrey England and love the sound of his voice too!
A great story teller also but most importantly a F***in great guitar player!!
Just when you think you're getting pretty good, you see Eric Clapton, and you realize you have a very long way to go.( and probably won't ever get there anyway)
He's awesome, and still makes it look so easy. He and Hendrix have always been my favorites ( it's said that Hendrix thought Clapton was great and was sad that Cream broke up). Great piece of video.
There may be other players with more "technical skills" but none can match the soul this man lays down when he plays.
Beautiful . I love Fender ... And of course Eric Clapton ..
The last minute of this video tells us why he is so great. A true gift that came with high price.
His smiles at 0:32 and 0:42 are fantastic, hearing that "tone" he remembers, really warms me heart
Clapton's way of checking the tone is probably the best lick I can play :(
Eric no matter who's guitar on you are a ICON THE GREATEST
Even though I’m a diehard Gibson ES/LP player, fender has and will always be my #1 amps.
i could listen to that guy tell stories and jam all day long......a living legend.
Boy with all the fabulous musicians checking out! And the list getting longer almost daily it will be a very sad sad day when this legend checks out! So enjoy while he is still with us! I have so much respect for the man if he never played at all!!
Absolutely great to see the master at play!
So cool hearing Eric talk about this reproduction of Brownie. One of my favorite classic albums is his first solo album with him on the cover with Brownie leaning against him in a rocker..The classic look of the greatest guitar player of all time!
this guy deserves a knighthood!
He has one.
peter golding he’s got an OBE, not quite a knight but an officer of the empire
Please stop with this knighood shit, it makes me puke.
martin kenny and why is that.
@@Buddhamama-on_tour_2022 " a knight hood"?? ""Really"" a bunch of inbred pompus fools living in the 12 the century,, kept in power and privilege by a minority of pompus fools that think there above everyone else ..if you follow in those circles you are part of the problem...next question.
We all have our preferences. "shredding" or depending on ten distortion pedals on top of a flanger always sounded like guitar masterbation to me. I prefer a "clean" sound like his driving rock you can hear on Mean Woman Blues played with Carl Perkins. This easy blues he plays at the end here just comes through smooth and rings true. Love it.
Incredible how Buddy speaks of Clapton like he is his hero and how Clapton feels the same! True Mutual respect and love...
These are the best blues lessons I've seen.
We are so lucky to still have Clapton, so of the greats are gone.
Eric Clapton is arguably the best guitarist ever, he is literally god
SkyLineXYT it is a valid argument, he is fantastic. Even though he's not the best, he's too humble to even consider himself as one of the best even though he's certainly up there
I miss my dad
SRV was 10x better at the blues.
There are countless Styles of guitar ...to say somebody IS n1
No, Eric Clapton is NOT God! Clapton is a white boy who plays "the blues"- pretty well, but he doesn't have the "internal fire" that African-American blues artists seem to have. As one critic I read puts it, Eric Clapton "knows every blues cliche that has ever been played."
Always loved Eric. First saw him in 1976. Many times since. Legend. Layla one of the best if not the best albums of all time.
its crazy the way he's transported back through time just holding that guitar
It’s nice to see a guy so great talk about other guys he looked up to
I just bought the DVD "Eric Clapton Life in 12 bars" and it really opened my eyes and ears.
This is the one I’d love. Derek and the Dominoes really did it.
He needs to play this or the Blackie tributes on stage, his new guitars are nice and all, but they're all spotless and new looking. This is coming from a person who really doesn't like reliced guitars.
he should, the new ones also sound a lot different, with that active mid boost and shit
I think the vast choice of instruments and amps today influences what players use, no longer the very narrow range of 'good' instruments that use to really limit musicians. Asking Eric to use a 1960-era setup is like asking him to stay entirely in the past.
jonas brave Which is to say just because a sound is vintage and/or you have a very expensive, perfect clone of a '57 strat, that doesn't make it a superior tool, it's just one flavor.
jonas brave
Its the flavor for this genre of music
Everything can be called a narrow genre.
these are great vids please more of them its good seeing eric out of the lights and at home showing his talents, please more
This is amazing, he doesn't play the same as he use to, I don't know why, but hearing him talk about everything is great.
I love when he picks it up and chuckles, you just know he was remembering some of his good ole memories with that guitar from back in the day
He looks in a better place that in the past. Sorry to hear of his nerve issue. But he can play a world within a note. He's got such an encyclopedia of the blues styles and has lived it, it'll be there even if he couldn't play at all. Love his style.
Absolutely amazing his recollection of which guitar he played and which track he played on the day - BRILLIANT
All I can say Eric is THANK YOU.
It's so peaceful to watch him talk about the good times.
Greatest blues artist/blues guitarist in my lifetime. I'm not a kid. I am 61 years old and am the Chief Financial Officer of an engineering company. If I knew how to do it, I would post the tattoo of the Fenbder "Brownie" on my inside forearm.
I would give anything to sit there for an afternoon and listen...
All have eric clapton and fender together! 👏😱👍
How excited he gets about it, im seriously considering getting one of these
"Between the middle and bridge. That was the sound, you know." I had no idea. Talk about humility. Is Eric playing with us or is that just how he sees it?
"Wang bar" hahaha
I took my son on his 16th birthday(2003) to the Fender guitar museum, we lucked out & toured the factory also. Absolutely incredible day , he's a base player for Alastor.
EC is the man. His riffs are so inventive, innovative.
He has had a very interesting life with incredible highs and lows. He has truly lived and survived.
It's fun to listen to Eric Clapton talk about guitars. It brings up some history lessons.
To see Eric in his comfortable enviroment is simply FANTASTIC !!!!!
Interesting how when you take a stripped down guitar, and tweed amp, the real basics here, and put it in front of a rock icon to play. It's all very simple and Eric starts to sound a lot like many of us noddling around at home. Little subtle nuances, a dead note, or a buzzy string, you can hear it all in this set up. A far cry from the cranked studio sound of Layla White room. He's human like us!
Well, I read the earlier posts, and they wished Eric Happy Birthday. So if I figure right, he's having another birthday about this year.HAPPY BIRTHDAYS, love your tunes!!!
Fantastic! I hope we could see Clapton in a gig with Brownie for once again.
Eric is one my guitar heroes of the first order. Stand proud, Eric. god, the stories he could
tell. Fender Strat 101
If you want to see "Brownie" it is in a glass case at the Experience Music Project in Seattle, just a ways down from the Woodstock Strat and the Vince Lombardi Trophy 2014.
He Always pays homage to his peers......Legend
as far as his strats go, i always liked the ''brownie' period the most
Eric... my first guitar hero.... GREAT
I got to meet him in 1976 in London backstage at a Don Williams concert have a autographed picture sitting on a sofa next to him very exciting for a 19 year old fan,he was a nice guy.
I love this video. I love hearing the way he talks about my favourite guitar.
When he s on it no one comes close that last riff was genius
Eric is one of the greatest guitar players ever his music is awesome
So happy I share a birthday with this legend.
Sound great. He's a true British hero.
Eric playing “double trouble” best solo ever
i love how fender Perfected his Brownie tribute model and Gibson's Lucy 'Play's Nice'.
That Vibrato! Damn fantastic!
Thanks Lord for Clapton's talent
This guitar always sent shivers down my spine
That little ditty at the end sounds a bit like Ten Years Gone.
Interesting. So he bought Brownie used! Imagine being the former owner of that guitar seeing that guitar auction for like a million bucks!
Whaou ! It sounds great !! Eric fingers
They need to have a documentary of him going through his iconic albums, setup just like this. It would be so awesome.
Great video. Clapton's still got it.
This makes me smile! will be seeing him in May! legend
This is a great interview due to telling a lot of his musical history 5:29
Thanks for exist Eric!
Eric Clapton: Another great Stratocaster legend!
Ryan Matlosz 2 Yes, he and Buddy Holly are the reason I have one lol
Buddy Ollie Good for you becuase my stepdad has a Strat also becuase of Eric Clapton, but also Jimi Hendrix
Very true indeed. I never really played the guitar to the same intensity until I saved up a bit of my own money and put it into an SG - until then I used to play along with CD's and think, 'why does my guitar not sound anything like that?' lol. If it's something that is going to stay with you for a lifetime, spending a decent bit of money of a guitar doesn't really seem that expensive.
toujours fidèle au blues Mr Clapton !
the best.
What a man; a national treasure.
I could only dream of playing guitar like him
That was a truly wonderful presntation indeed !
