Hey Stephanie! This video was so encouraging and interesting. I think a general misconception regarding the idea of Internal Auditing, is that it only supports financial matters, when in fact it is primarily based on standards/principles and procedures. Thank you much for the info!
As a retired CIA, this was interesting. I always worked at large firms like Nissan, ARCO ( oil - now part of BP) which focused on operational improvements, which attracted operations oriented peop!e - many were not CPAs. We focused on profit improvements, sometimes in the millions.
This was super helpful, thank you! Internal audit sounds interesting to me but I’m just never exposed to it since I work on small/medium sized businesses
Have been following your videos for a couple of years now and I’ve always enjoyed a friendly sisterly advice from you! 😊 I’m an auditor from a Big 4 in Malaysia :)
I have been in IA for 6 years but was interested to hear your perspective! I used gleim online to study for CIA and I would recommend it. I haven’t seen others but it gives you a proficiency score as you complete the sections which is pretty motivating. The practice test bank is really helpful because it explains the answers (right or wrong) and links you to the materials in case you want to get a refresh in a weak area or just further info. Also gives you a subunit summary which is good for studying. I didn’t use the videos, though.
Thank you so much! When I searched for exam prep material, Gleim kept popping up so I'm glad to hear it worked well for you! I'll probably not use the videos either. Thank you for sharing 💗 how has being in IA turned out for you?
Stephie Mills the videos and audio files are kind of hilariously bad but it’s also just not my study style. I have loved IA! I transferred in from the business but had an accounting degree/MBA so I’m not the typical hire for my group (most are ex-pwc or right out of school). I also had the opportunity to do some external consulting work through the years so it’s been kind of the best of both worlds for me. I actually have been just offered a controller position in another organization and am really nervous about leaving IA since it’s kind of part of my identity now. But I can still be a control champion it seems good for career growth. Good example of where IA can take people, at the least.
thanks for the video, Steph! 😊 I've been looking to build a career in internal audit (possibly IT audit if given the chance) and you have always been very insightful ❤️
This is really helpful. I am currently a high school student in my last year and I've been studying accounting for 3 years just the basic. I really love the it and looking to pursue a certificate in accounting, this video help me a lot giving me an insight of what to expect. Thank again
Thank you for the insight. I am back to external audit with the hope of getting some internal audit experience. Have you considered the CITP? Not sure how valuable it truly is.
I've actually never heard of that license until you mentioned it! I don't think I've run across too many people in my professional life with that license; however, after reading up on it, I'm definitely interested! I'll need to do more research and will report back! Thank you for sharing with me!
Great video, liked and subscribed. quick question: once you tested set of controls, how often do you retest them? there can only be number of controls to test. what do you do after you have tested the controls?
Hey Stephie, long time viewer of the channel, keep these amazing videos coming! I am interested in pursuing a career in Internal Audit and was wondering what is the best way to get my foot in the door? I graduated from university in 2016 and have 4 years of financial reporting/full cycle accounting under my belt, but no real audit experience. Any suggestions? Thanks I’m advance!
Hi stephie! I enjoyed this video so much, very informative. I'm on my last year in uni as accounting student and will be doing thesis about internal audit.. i recently just browsing journals about internal audit and suprisingly there are bunches of negative perceptions towards the profession and internal audit itself. Do you aware or ever heard of that negative perceptions of internal audit? I hope you read this tysm xx
this is such good info! I am an accounting major and I have had a interest in working in internal audit, especially being in the Aerospace industry, however I wanted to minor in computer science. Would you say that a minor in computer science is beneficial/worth it? Thanks Stephie!
This is really helpful. I have been an accountant but want to move to internal auditing. Studying for the CIA hoping that it will give me an edge. Is your company hiring at the moment?
Thanks for the video. I'm a first year senior at one of the big 4;'s and thinking about moving to Internal Audit. I've been doing interviews with a bank, a privately held organization which will focus more on operational audit as oppose to SOX. Do you think Internal audit experience with a bank/private company will be transferable skills and allow me to jump to senior internal audit roles with other companies in the future? Just don't want to pigeon hold myself as I know internal audit can vary from company to company, but the internal audit with bank seems to be a first step into the door to get into internal audit? Just not sure if I should look for internal audit roles that are more SOX focus (which would mean public companies).
very informative video. were you an external audit in public accounting? Want to know how much internal audit work is included for a public accounting external audit?
I wish that I seen this before my Internal audit interview with a healthcare system. It was entry level and I'm coming from retail with a bachelor degree, came in second overall there was 8 people. Do you recommend to keep trying for internal audit and trying to gain experience this way? I know public is great experience but even those jobs are hard to come by after your out of school.
I really think external or internal audit are great places to start your career! External has more diverse exit opportunities (in my opinion) like general ledger, financial reporting or internal audit but still think internal audit allows you to see the full picture.
Stephie Mills Well I recently received an offer from a hospital / healthcare system for entry level internal audit role! I'm really excited and I'm looking forward to learning more about it. How would you recommend I prepare for this job? Do you rely heavily on statistical analysis or is it more setting up the excel spread sheets? It seems public accounting is not what I want out of a career. I do not want to be apart of a partnership so climbing that latter seems detrimental to me. I feel like being exposed to an organization where I would want to grow and not jump ship after a few years would be the more beneficial way to go? I'm not sure honestly, I was even thinking of letting my degree go and not pursuing accounting anymore so I'm still in a shock about this offer. Thank you for being so kind.
Can I just go work with u? Like you really look a great team member to work, I've learned a lot with this video to prepare for an interview! Thank you from Portugal and good look on your future!!!
Dear Stephie, I like your explanation but when am doing in my orga. some bodies say that internal Auditor is act to find fault that are made by the accountant. are they right?
How was the transition into supervisory roles for you considering that you tended to be shy or introverted. If I am remembering this information wrong from previous vids just let me know. :)
They are drastically different. The differences are literally in the names. Audit is a lot of looking at controls and historical info. FPA is more about future budgeting/planning/ variance analysts, etc. IMHO FPA is more interesting and you learn more about how to run a business.
Hi, Stephie! I'm going to immigrate to USA in future. My position in my country now - head of IA. I have strong skills in audit of business processes, also in financial audit. Please, give me advice - can I find a job as IA or accountant (at the beginning). Because, I understand, that my English is not enough for interwiew and for making reports. Now, I'm on the way to pass CIA. Thank you, so much!
Am currently pursuing a Internal Auditing degree will there be conflict of interest if i decided to also become a retail trader in stocks ,currencies and indices and what are the possibilities of stating my own Auditing firm

Hi Stephie - I like the concept of this channel. Do you happen to have any intro to SOX power points?
Have a interview with risk advisory consulting with a firm tom!! This was perfect
I started following this platform when I wanted my cpa... now we both are on to cia😂😂
You can refer Gleim for CIA, You should check for enrolling for the eaxm, as during COVID 19 they are offering online proctoring.
