      +Jacob Yup.
      The idea being that cochlear implants (which she does NOT have) use the audio system that's already built-in, the nerves, the sections of brain. HER system taps directly into the brain, at first it is an unknown signal which no part of her brain has been genetically prepared to receive. Her brain must now allocate new neural networks to make sense of those weird signals.

      What a cruel joke. You say that to a woman who has suffered through like 10 birth ailments? Show some respect and say something with meaning not just a generic ramble that in reality makes no difference and isnt heartfelt. Its like me saying "have a nice day" after you patronize mcdonalds. Its not sincere and it does nothing and if I told you, my dead mother will watch over you and make sure you have a good luck day, you would look at me like im bonkers, or banana's and be like - ok well um thanks? i guess?. In this case, this woman is so sick so your response is complelty innapproiate. Its an appropriate response for a situation like my example, a fast food or everyday scenario - not something as serious as this young ladys condiotion

    I am a certified interpreter. My feelings are that her parents should love and accept her as she is, in totality. Certain things needed to be "fixed" like cleft lip, so she could survive. Deafness is not a death sentence. She could have thrived without the implant. I do not agree with implanting a child who is too young to understand all the ramifications that I understand about this. After implantation, she is NOT then a hearing person. If something goes wrong with the implant or the processor is knocked off or is broken, or when she takes it off, she still can't hear. The sounds she hears with it on are unnatural, like a robot. Since she has NEVER heard before, she does not immediately understand the sounds she hears, nor where they come from. She has to learn all this. It takes at least a year of healing from the surgery to even be able to start the training, which then takes more years. Some implant surgeries are "successful" and some are not. Parents are not usually told about all things that can go wrong and be a struggle for her. It's not accurate for the reporter to say she hears with her brain. We all do. It's the brain that sends the signals. That's a silly statement. When they turn on the processor, her mother signs to her what is being said. She can't understand it herself yet, by far. I feel this is a choice an adult, fully educated about all the risks and benefits should explore for themselves. I do not feel the parent has the right to make that decision for them if it's not a lifesaving necessity.

      +David Young you never know if god exists, do you? do you have any *solid* evidence?
      That argument can be used on both sides. Which is why i don't know if he exists. But i hope he exists because of the short life we live.

      GlitchedTurtle | CSGO and More you can prove that God doesn't exist with cloning if you can clone something that means a soul doesn't exist I could go on but I don't feel like writing you a book

    • @frankjackson655
      @frankjackson655 9 років тому +1

      +David Young Yep. How do you know if a clone doesn't have a soul? Seems like your talking out of your ass unless you have some huge evidence. So please go on and share how clones can't have souls.

    The one thing that used to piss me off is when i heard someone say deaf and dumb, hearing
    impaired people are not dumb they can`t hear. They are just as smart as anyone else.

    • @manthasagittarius1
      @manthasagittarius1 10 років тому +5

      Using the word "dumb" to mean stupid is not showing the original meaning of the word, and it is not considered a correct or polite use even now. "Dumb" means unable to speak. You can look it up.

    • @karenwalker4225

      The term Hearing Impaired is also no longer used as politically correct. The preferred terms are Deaf or Hard of Hearing.

    Most Deaf I have know didn't feel as tho they suffer from it. They are proud. This girl will have so many years of speech therapy and may still not hear like you and I. Also...the risks at 1:03...were worth it? Please. She could still be a chef if Deaf. Also she didn't understand Dad at 1:48. It was just pitches of noise coming from his face.
