    I got into GES because a client asked me if i could animate him various routes of his travels for youtube videos.
    At first, i got impressed by the cappabilites of GES, but thougth that it needed EXACTLY this kind of tools to get to the pinnacle of map animation.
    You absolutely smashed it!!

    BTW, to get DoF like that, you'd need a camera sensor about 10m across! Shallow DoF is only on closeups

    All good in theory. I tried to follow this to the letter and there were many steps along the way where it did not quite work. Ultimately I had a route in GES that often disappeared, even when I exported the .kml route from blender at a stupidly high altitude. I guess anyone familiar who is familiar with blender could correct this, but not me. That's a whole day wasted...

    A question: can Google Earth Studio be used for editing GPS Data?
    In a way it's exactly what you did but I noticed (aroung minute 10 of this tutorial) than in your workflow that you kind of "re-created" the path with track points, while I'd be more looking for GPS data direct editing, which I did,

    Finally got time to take a closer look at the tutorial: lots of improvements! The new green screen mask seems as if a direct answer to my problem a few months back when rendering routes in Rome! The compositing in AE significantly reduces the workload that would have occurred if compositing in blender. I will have to be more familiar with blender to make use of the new object feature (the rotating art piece)
    One thought: I noticed when rendering that google cloud does an excellent job in terms of quality if rendered in 4k video. I don't know much about the limits to blender but could you not render your route as a 4k video on the cloud and then insert it into blender? I think they currently have a cap of 10 minutes per day for cloud video rendering but nobody will probably reach that limit anyways. This will also significantly reduce the time spent waiting on exporting for folks without a good GPU

    • @ImagiscopeTech
      @ImagiscopeTech  2 роки тому

      Cloud rendering: it's a great addition, however, the compression of the video file make "difference matte" (i.e. green screen) difficult as there are many artifact changes in sequential frames. FYI: I've reached the limit several time. Lol

  • @robertvasiliu
    @robertvasiliu 2 роки тому

    Amazing! Is it possible to reintroduce KML Export in addition to 3D Object Export? It would solve the animation issue of the track size to compensate for camera distance. The 3D Object is limited to a fixed size and zooming out a lot will make the track disappear. Also the 100 m limit size for KML Export seems to be too low for very large zoom outs. The workaround is the still use the mask created in Google Earth as it offers flexibility for the mask size.

    Great fun watching your videos and great creative potential in the tools. But my college has recently upgraded to Blender 2.93.2 and export object as KML doesn't seem to work. Get big python error message including:

    xoff = (float(f.split(',')[0]) * 100) + float(anc['X'])
    KeyError: 'bpy_struct[key]: key "X" not found'
    is this a known problem. I am using earth studio tools 1.2py

    Hi there, thank you so much for the video. I'm following it step by step but when it comes to the "import KML file to Blender" step, in the "snap to" bar, I don't see any track points shown there for me to choose from. Could you please help? Thank you!

      Try switching to English in Blender. Some other languages cause issues identifying the trackpoints

    Hey Rob - this is a fantastic tool! My first attempts did work but now the camera and the trackpoints seem to be offset and scaled in Blender so they don't match the movie. Are there any settings in Blender or GES that need to be reset/adjusted?
    Many thanks
    Christoph

    • @ImagiscopeTech

      Try exporting the 3D tracking data again. Sometimes it creates a file that has weird data in it. See if that works. Also, if re-importing, make sure the anchor trackpoints (first) stays the same.

    • @IndustriegebietAlzeyOst
      @IndustriegebietAlzeyOst 2 роки тому

      @@ImagiscopeTech Looks like I found the issue - I was using the camera field of view attribute in GES, set it from 20 to 50. This seems not to be imported into Blender. Am I right, any plans to include this?
      Many thanks again!

      Correct. I am working on a formula to convert the camera focal length. I have yet to find the right algorithm. I'll keep trying.

    • @ImagiscopeTech
      @ImagiscopeTech  2 роки тому

      I have built an algorithm to covert the field of view (fov). It will be included in the next update (version 1.2.3). You won't have to do anything, it will just pick up the info from the Google Earth Studio file (JSON). You will be able to have as many fov's you want. Coming in a few days.

    Hi, in Earth Studio Tool 1.1, we could use Blender for the compositing. But, 1.2 version, you used AE instead of Blender. Is it possible to use Blender for compositing and masking? If so, it would be really helpful.

    Hi Imagscope ! Your add-on seems to rockkk ! Thank you so much for your time !
    I have some trouble tough, and maybe I don't understand something... I have created a massive earth studio project to show a trek of 5000+ km I did on montains, and I try to incomporate a KML file to show the road I did. It is unfortunatly impossible to do it inside AE, because it is too much km. I have tried Blender but during the import of the KML file, I have the following error message :
    "Python : Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "C:\Users\lasca\AppData\Roaming\Blender Foundation\Blender\3.4\scripts\addons\GES_Panel_1_2.py", line 370, in execute

    KeyError: 'bpy_prop_collection[key]: key "" not found'
    ".
    Any idea to help me ? Thank you so much !

    confusing tutorial, you used too much shortcuts, should include your keyboard clicks... plus the kml route path from blender doesn't work when adding back in google studio. not sure why, such a hard tutorial to follow imo.... when i tried to make the starting arrow and resizing it to 3d, the google studio background dissapears, love the effort but not detailed enough
