Gran Turismo 7 - PS4 vs PS5 Graphics Comparison

- Опубліковано 3 бер 2022
- Gran Turismo 7 is another stunning flagship game for the PlayStation platform. Check out our comparison between a base PS4 against the PS5 and see for yourself how the now nine-year-old PS4 holds up against next-gen hardware.
Gran Turismo by developer Polyphony Digital launches on both PS4 and PS5 systems. With a legacy known for cutting edge graphics and astounding attention to detail, GT7 carries on the torch in its PS5 version. Surprisingly, however the base PS4 version holds up remarkably well for hardware that's nearly a decade old. In this comparison video, we put the two versions side-by-side through numerous races, training sessions, loading times, and more. Our PS5 was captured using "Performance Mode" which focuses on the game's framerate, while the PS4 lacks the option. Gran Turismo 7 March 4th for PlayStation platforms.

It's amazing how a nearly 10 year old console can still push out these graphics. I have the ps5 version but I'm super glad people who are still playing last gen can experience this game to its fullest.
dude the PS4 managed to run Driveclub, this game is nothing
@@marcosgojira7553 In 2013 to
Dude ps4 can run need for speed 2015 it is so heavy in graphics and rain effects so this game is absolutely nothing 👍
I'm glad that the ps4 version looks this good as well. What matters the most is that the car performance and online racing are the same, and neither has an advantage over the other
@@djstripes4260 1.8 teraflops too
It's not only the ps4 performance doing the work here, it's the devs that push this game to the limits on the ps4. They are doing most of the work
Yup

Awesome job on putting this video together! The stitching of both parts was really well done! Thank you!
The difference is so minimal, I'll be playing on PS4 Pro...outside of some lighting effects there is barely any difference...thanks for the honest comparison.
Only main difference is pop in, higher res textures and motion blur. Other than that, looks fantastic.
You're probably right. Though UA-cam compression is probably making it seem closer than it is
visual performance and load times are the main difference
You must be blind then.
@@Miadaskate What makes you assume that? I've played both versions, the only difference is texture mapping, polygon count, and motion blur.
PS4 is slightly lower resolution. But it does not matter to some people, as people just want to have fun and indulge in a classic GT experience.
00:17 I was thinking about getting GT7 for my PS3 so it's good to know there isn't much difference from the PS3 and PS4 version. Thanks Gamespot.
I SPOT IT TOO LOL
🤣
😂
Lol
I was thinking about getting GT7 for my PS2 so it's good to know there isn't much difference from the PS3 and PS4 version. Thanks Gamespot.
Resolution and refresh rate really make the PS5 version look good. As well as the added lighting reflection from the sun glaring off the body is nice. At time it looks like the PS4 version is missing it’s headlight/taillight lenses due to the lack of glare on them from direct sunlight. But they still manage to have that cubemap reflection on the lenses from the surroundings. The maps look the same to me, the biggest difference is in the amount of quality being used mostly on the cars. It’s as if the PS4 has certain settings turned down but still not too bad.
Hummm…if differences between PS4 and PS versions of the same games go on being so light, PS4 has yet a lot of happy days to live…Let’s be honest, there are so few game which respect the PS5 owners and it’s a shame, this is unfair for them.
I want and I will buy the PS5, but the nowadays next-gen Sony system is too useless to be bought. 99% of PS5 games are PS4 ones with an update which bring a few more fluidity OR Ray-Tracing technology…but without this new fluidity. Wow! Besides, PS5 has too much fabrication issues. It’ s the same problem of nearly ALL the games which are sold between 60 and 80 $ but which are not enough polished and not finished: if you want to play your new game, first you have 1 thing to do: waiting….if not, you will waste your experience because of hundreds of bugs or gameplay isssues.
The only thing which is really awesome is the SSD tech…but it’ s clearly not enough.
Would you notice when you are driving w inside cockpit view? The refresh rate is a plus though
@@johnl2613 yeah this is what I want to know I mostly drive gt sport in cockpit/bonnet view
I’m honestly very surprised at how well the PlayStation exclusives are holding up on the last Gen consoles. Horizon Forbidden West was pretty surprising, no idea how they pulled it off.
They did some software based variable rate shading on the foliage, quite impressive.
I heard they made Forbidden West for PS4, then just enhanced the game for PS5
Are you kidding right? Them games are last gen base games! Of course the games run fine on base consoles smh .
@@unknownplayer23 that literally means nothing. Skyrim came out in 2011 and can barely hit a stable 30fps on PS4 Pro lol. Plenty of games aren’t properly optimized for lower hardware. Smh.
@@dannybald9671 True, most of the development was on ps4.
The differences are so minor, that the ps4 version is not missing hardly anything.
Resolution is the most noticeable difference. I think PS4 players are getting a great-looking experience.
Its great on my ps4, I mean having fun is never about the graphics anyway
The chip shortage ensured that all “next gen” games are optimized for “last gen” by default, with maybe a few settings turned up for PS5. It will be a year or two before we see PS5 dedicated games (with no compensation for PS4 in development)
That's usually how all console generations are though.
We've already seen Demon's Souls and Ratchet and Clank
That ist true ps5 alone has better colors then the ps4 and lighting particle effects stable frames
graphical fidelity has nothing to do with chip shortages. All devs have to do implement better texture resolutions.
@@dutyrover946 That ray tracing though, most noticeable in the tail lights at 2:54, it's a subtle change but looks more realistic. To render that without taking a frame rate hit, you need new silicon.
I am so impressed with the PS4 version. Mind-blowing
They basically have the same graphics .. if anything, the ps5 version isn’t that impressive, since it looks almost identical to GT Sport which came out 5 years ago.
@@hazemasaadsaad yeah that’s his point. It’s amazing that a 10 year old console looks similar to a modern one
@@hazemasaadsaad Why are you patronising the guy for a perfectly valid opinion?
@@Hologhoul true … my tone was unnecessary. Cheers
@@NameWasntTaken no
Noticeable difference in fps but graphically speaking the ps4 looks almost identical.
It only has less FPS in replays. In gameplay both have 60 fps. Ray tracing is also only in replays for the PS5 version.
@@PaneledPear It really seems only the loading times are the biggest difference, and that's not to say they're abnormally slow on PS4, rather that they're just mega quick on PS5.
@@benwilliams5760 The game also still looks quite impressive on PS5. What that means is it just looks *really* impressive on PS4. It's actually mind blowing that it can hit a solid 60fps at a respectable resolution with all of the new tech.
@@benwilliams5760 The loading times on the ps5 are so fast thanks to the ssd, the ps4 if not upgraded has an HDD still
@@PaneledPear depends on settings, you can make ray tracing a priority, or frame rate. I can't wait till they just start making ps5 games and optimize just for it and not the PS4. But you will need to have more ps5s out in the wild first.
6:04 the stereo sound separation in the ps5 version is outstanding. Closing your eyes you can hear where the exaust is coming from relative to the camera. As in the ps4 footage we can just hear that a car is coming from a far, but not really where it's coming from.
thank you for taking the time to make videos like this i know it is a lot of work
Thanks for watching!
You know Digital Foundry exists, right?
It’s going to take a good 2 or 3 more years before we see what the ps5 is really capable of.
Thats why ps5 is still next gen console. Because next gen gaming has not started yet
What about ps3 to ps4, at that time when ps4 released, the ps4 doesn't show the next gen yet?
@@marknathaniel9230 PS4 graphics definitely got much better years after launch. Compare this game to a PS4 launch title....night and day
@@BadassValentine but the difference is very obvious when the ps4 shows the next gen. Try to research and compare nba 2k14 ps3 vs ps4, nba 2k14 was the first nba 2k on ps4 but the difference is massive already even f u watch it only on 720p.
Driveclub is one of the best looking games of the PS4 and it wasn't released much later than the PS4 itself.
Don't know about anyone else, but I can never see the difference when they do comparisons like this. I remember when PS1, then PS2 came out, YES, the difference was huge. Then PS2 to the ps3, still a difference. Now, can't even tell. Maybe I'm just not a tech savvy guy. Anyway, I'll happily get the PS4 version.
The difference between PS2 and PS3 is very much.
It's because of resolution. The PS5 is rendering the game at 4x the resolution, so right off the top the rendering load is several times higher. And then you factor that it's double the frame rate on PS5, so each frame has to be rendered in half the time. That's where most of the PS5's extra power is going, so there's not a lot left for increased detail settings and higher quality rendering.
Very interesting but assuming this is real game footage, how did you manage to synchronize up to 1 ms both consoles?
Does GT7 have club races like in GT2? It was the last time I played and I really liked the concept.
Those loading times on next gen are insane
I am more interested to see the comparison between performance mode and ray tracing mode
I double taked at your intro clips saying PlayStation 3 and 4. Had me excited for a moment.
What was the point at 3:19 showing both times when on the PS5 side it wasn't doing anything?
I think if I was a PS5 owner I'd be a little annoyed to see these graphics. I have a PS4 Pro and I'm sure this game would look even better than what they're showing here PS4 wise.
I’d be annoyed if it was PS5 Exclusive, but since it’s cross Gen, nothing really to complain about. All the games they’ve released as PS5 exclusive have been visually stunning, especially Ratchet and Clanks ray tracing mode and Metro: Exodus’s PS5 upgrade. Metro in particular looks like a PS5 Exclusive lol
@@GrippeeTV thankfully metro is on gamepass. I wouldn’t have paid full price for that lol
@@Boskibro to each their own, I would’ve paid double price for it
@@GrippeeTV days gone and demon souls are the best looking games I’ve seen.
the dual sense and 60 fps replay are PS5 exclusive
Not seeing major graphical leaps towards the PS5 version just only better frame rates, slight lightening difference between the PS5 and PS4 version but however I see the grass and trees look better and more fleshed out though on PS5 🤔
how were you guys able to get the exact same times on 2 different consoles?
This is the most interesting comment! And he did not replied to you!
Apart from more realistic lighting, there is no significant difference, good job on the clips as some channels made the ps4 videos look way worse on purpose
Nah overall ps5 has more potential for colors then.the 4
Just mad you ain’t got a ps5
ps5 has native 4k as it can be clearly seen on the video. plus the scapes shown at the beginning are not 3D rendered but are still images of real places
Resolution is quite higher than PS4 and replays are at 60fps instead of 30fps. Also PS5 has RTX option for replays I think.
@@mclarenf1gtr99 PS4 running Gran Turismo 7 at 1080p 60fps. Not 30
Do both versions have a red line on them?
Ps4 owners have nothing to feel bad about here. Looks gorgeous no matter what. Just appreciate the game
Load times are sad in comparison.
Ps4 Looks old graphics
I want it but idk should I wait for price cut for ps5 version because tired of ps5 bein held back because of ps4
To be fair I've seen it on both PS4 and 5 and the difference is more than it appears on here
Yep best way I can describe it is Ps4 is like running low graphics setting on a PC and Ps5 is like running ultra settings. The difference is very noticeable.
Looks amazing on both but the fast load times are insane on ps5
load times don't hinder gameplay, things load...
What is going on at 3:54? The PS4 version is much sharper. Videos wrongly labelled?
Lol every time I see a ps5 exclusive I’m like yeah this looks amazing. Then I see the comparison videos and I cannot believe how similar they look!!

It's coming up on two years soon. So I'd say the "rush" stage is over.
I got a PS5 recently and I am glad I did. It's a better user experience overall.
But yes, you are correct. I have not been wowed yet by any newer games or by any upgraded ps4 to ps5 titles etc..
In that way, there's no rush. Not until the devs start pumping out new games and pushing the new machine.
Does this also run at 26fps like Dying Light 2 and Horizon: Forbidden West (in Resolution mode)..?
on ps5 its 4k 60fps, replays of races with ray tracing enabled run at 30 fps, ps4 is 60 fps 1080p with 30 fps in replays
Oii pessoal, alguém sabe como mudo o lado do volante no jogo? Tá no lado direito, quero por para o lado esquerdo ( tá no modo que comprei) queria colocar que nem nos dirigimos os carros pelo lado certo
Cool! Minor differences. I'm going to buy myself a PS4 slim.
Thanks for the neat video, friend.
Was this game made starting as a PS4 or PS5 game?
Ps4 also has a vr headset of its own, does it run gt7 vr on ps4?
Graphics have definitely plateaued since 7th gen. They look awesome, don't get me wrong, but the advancements are no longer easily perceptible out of zoom in screenshots and frame rate comparisons.
True, 5th gen to 6th was mind blowing as was 6th to 7th. It's been diminishing returns ever since but we're getting so close to true photo realism that there will come a point where there's not more that can be done graphically.
Indeed the Generation gaps are closer than ever.
Try Forbidden West, its mind blowing. Best graphical game out there atm.
Is there any difference in functionality? It looks like the 5 just has slightly better lighting.
All features are the same. The game just takes a hit in loading time and may be more vulnerable to some fps drops here and there
Its really amazing, I just not found if the PS4 was Standard, Slim or PRO.. I have a Standard Japanese Ceramic White PS4 and hope runs great..
Everybody mentions the frame rates and lighting details as the big differences. In my opinion, the biggest difference is in the chrome wheels. Chrome isn't mirror-like on the PS4 version, and it shows in this video (3:38).
Yep. Even the grill in ps4 looks like grey plastic. In ps5 it does show the bmw grill in real chrome like. As in real life chrome
That's an incredibly good video! The only thing I find lacking on the PS4 (pro) when I play it, is many of the trees look flat and 2-dimensiional, they obviously chose that as a compromise for performance. I'd be interested to see how the PS5 version looks on my old 1080p telly.
I have a ps4 pro and I wanted to know what the load times are like ?
Load times are slow on all ps4 models since your using a HDD and not a SSD
Smooth frame rate is the main jump on any PS5 game. Amazing it doesn't hardly ever glitch or drop frames on games!
What is there for the ps4 version do not have on the ps5 version
I can’t tell any difference apart from a few sun flares here and there. I was going to upgrade but don’t see the point at all for £500
I'm just buying a used PS4 and Gran Turismo 7, the resolution and some lighting is all I will be missing out on.
It's looks really impressive on ps4.
0:16 - 3 and 4 ?
Well since I still can't find a PS5 in a store, I guess I'll just get the PS4 version. Doesn't look as good, but it still looks really good. I don't mind the load times.
Hopefully someone can answer this question for me. If you have the PS4 and your buddy has the PS5 can they still race online together? Thanks in advance
Yes
@@Celatra Thank you
GT is really one of the few games I miss about owning a PlayStation. Traded my four for building a PC a few years back and not having any regrets(thank you AC, iRacing and rFactor). But, I grew up with Gran Turismo since the first installment to the series. It will always be a nostalgic title for me. Maybe I'll consider getting a ps5 once more titles have released.
Don't miss it. I have both consoles and this game looks so bad tbh. Compared to fh5 this is just a terrible game!
@@wheretfismutz Forza Horizon 5 is in a completely different genre. It also has no progression to speak of which significantly limits its longevity whereas this game has a very steady progression loop. Forza Motorsport 4 is still the apex of the Forza series and everything went downhill after Horizon 1.
I quit PlayStation after GT4. Is buying a PS3 or PS4 worth it to play GT5 and 6, or does GT4 remain the zenith of Gran Turismo in the 2000's and 2010's?
@@Vincent_Quak A PS4 is probably worth it for 7. If you can get a cheap PS3 then GT5 after all of its updates is actually a fairly respectable game. GT6 has more issues but you can have a pretty good time with it still. GT7 is definitely up there in terms of how good it is. Comparing it to even GT4 is pretty fair.
Nice comparison! Love the bloom and relections on the PS5. It's a huge diference.
Sure, sure. PS5 looks more like a ps4 pro+
Its clear we are at the point that graphics won't get much better, load times will improve, but thats about it, zero reason so far to own a PS5
Wow, that PS3 version looks great 0:17

The biggest downside from PS4 isn't the graphics or replays at 30fps, it's probably loading times.

cant wait for pure ps5 gran turismo, i cant imagine them pushing it to the limit like how they did with ps4
Isn't is almost the same? I couldn't recognize details.
Remember back when comparing the current generation with the previous was more exciting than the “better or worse” debate at the eye doctor.
I wonder how much different on the pro then the base PS4
What is the difference between this and GT sport ?
It's a ton different man. Physics are on point.
Seem only difference are ray tracings, higher texture and loading time.
It's obviously a last gen title. It's not so much that they are pushing the PS4, it's more what they haven't done with the PS5 because they shouldn't look practically identical.
Its basically a polished up port
I've a ps5 and gran turismo 7 ps4 disc is cheaper than ps5 disc, should i buy ps4 disc or ps5?
Don't buy physical games, it's a scam, Sony and Microsoft are updating system software with a virus bug stopping some physical games from working intentionally forcing users to buy digital games
For the ones who bought it on ps4, is it worth it on last gen ? Im thinking about buying it

I'm honestly blown away by how great this looks. What's more amazing is the fact that i'm sure that the ps5 still has more power that developers can leverage to reach unseen levels of visual fidelity since this is a cross-gen release.
What if i told you you barely see a differance between ps4 and 5 on this game wich is mindblowing youll have to go into detail to notice anything
@@danielstokker you can on a oled display. Ps5 is way nicer than ps4 version. UA-cam does no justice for the ps5
@@danielstokker because PS4 is holding the ps5 back. The fact that they had to make this game with PS4 in mind they couldn’t go all is
Proof that releasing this on PS4, has held back the PS5 version. Sony lied when they said they would make PS5 exclusive titles.
I think the generational improvement in console game graphics is slowing down. Like PS1-PS2 is mind-blowing, PS2-PS3 maybe not quite as much but it's still really incredible with way better lighting and more detail. PS3-PS4 is definitely noticeable, shaders and lighting especially take a jump, but a lot of best games of the older generation still hold their own in comparison. PS4-PS5 though, there are some improvements in lighting and foliage but it's really only noticeable in a side by side and there aren't enough next-gen exclusives that really impress me
Can you play GT7 on a PS4 online with the PS5 crowd?
Yes I’m doing it
The announce trailer showed graphics we did NOT get for PS5. Bait and switched. They held everything back for PS4.
As a PS4 Pro owner I'm perfectly happy with the graphics as compared to a PS5. Watching this comparison on my cell at 1080 P I could barely notice any differences at all. Only some minor lighting effects looked better on the PS5.
I'm sure if I were comparing on a 4K big screen the differences would be more easily noticeable.
Looking like this will look great streamed at 1080p 60. 😎
The loading times are probably way better on PS5, though
But how much development time was spent on making it PS4 compatible, that could have gone to making the ps5 version better.

Surprise! A Sony game designed for PS4 runs great on PS4.
00:15: the "Playstation 3" version looking good ;)
Why does no one compare the ps4 pro vs ps5 ?
We are talking about 60 frames a second with better lighting, has slightly better graphics and 30 frames per second with slightly downgraded graphics. So I would say that PS five is most likely better but it still looks pretty good on PS4 and I’m not in a hurry to upgrade.
I'll never forget playing Goldeneye for the first time on N64 after years of SNES. I'll never forget turning on my PS2 for the first time to play Red Faction after years of playing Goldeneye on N64. Couldn't believe how amazing it looked. Also, will never forget playing Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS3 for the first time. Same thing - eyes popped out of my head from how good the graphics were. What was the first PS4 game I played? Couldn't tell you. Whatever it was, the graphics weren't all that amazing.
For me, it took 5 years after the PS4's release date to really be blown away by what it could do, with RDR2.
Can you still remember the first PS5 and PS6 games u played?
I dare to say that i live PS4 more. The lighting looks better and more natural. In PS5 everything is darker, like there's a dark shader film over the image. It's very obvious at 2:40.
Only difference I can see is the shadowing effects. Pretty sad for a next gen console.
Some parts the PS4 actually looks better
I can't see much difference on 1080P.. Probably on 4K, we will be able to see the difference.
Yup
No K vs 4K, PS5 looks sharp and shiny very reflective, PS4 looks mirrored but low poly count min reflections
If you removed the vertical line i wouldnt know its a mix of both systems 🤯
So either Sony knocked it out of the park with the ps4, or they tanked it with the ps5? This isn’t really convincing considering the fact that in order to get the best ps5 experience you need to have an SSD which apparently fills up quick.
You should add a vacuum cleaner/helicopter noise on the ps4 side...
you should clean yours i think
I wonder when companies are going to stop catering to the last-gen consoles and start working on current-gen only. Either they're holding back, or these consoles aren't that much of an upgrade aside from textures, lighting, and load screens...
Only thing I can think of is cos so many still can't get hold of them and Sony releasing the ps4 again, I assume cos the shortage, gonna be a good while I'd imagine before we get the true next gen games coming out
It would be bad business to only cater to current gen considering there are far more ps4’s in circulation for potential sales of games since most can’t get ahold of the next gen and refuse to pay scalper prices
Because the can't keep the next gens in stock
maybe because you only have a few ps5 against millions ps4??
Pato - Yea it would be a bad business decision to release a ps5 only game at this point. Way more ps4’s in circulation, hence more potential sales of game for that platform. Hopefully the supply of ps5’s rises soon since I won’t buy one for double from these dbag scalpers that buy them all up
It looks way better on PS5 but it honestly is not that bad in ps4
I honestly don't see any reason to upgrade to PS5 just yet.
I'ts a game designed for the last gen using the last gen GT Sport engine.Of course the two version look almost identical.
replays always were "laggy" even on PS3, i always thought they wanted the replays to feel more "realistic" as you would watch a real race on TV or something. Except on PS5 they seem to be smooth.
I am impressed with both, wirh this Game...
Is the ps4 running in 60fps?
Yes
You're telling I can have an almost similar experience on my ps5 with a ps4 disc? Since I would rather install 100gb on my external storage than be forced to use up so much of my ssd.
looks the same. glad I still have my ps4
The only big difference is the sun's reflections. It's strange that on ps4 they didn't manage to do them as good, it shouldn't be the most complex thing to do. Also because it seems a matter of brightness rather than detail
The difference is ray tracing and no the ps4 cannot do that
@@timothyhollandsworth1713 ray tracing is only used on replays and 30fps, for ps5, not gameplay nor replays at 60fps. Though PS5 has better sun reflection even on gameplay, and the rendering also looks obviously at 60 fps. It's visible that it's a matter of the reflection intensity, rather than technology
Still looking for a really legit reason to buy a PS5. I don't know if present gen is being handcuff by last Gen but the differences between AAA games and their last Gen counterparts are negligible. Well maybe the load times are improved but pound for pound it's not that big of a jump in quality I was expecting.
Honestly I wouldn't bother with a ps5 just yet. We've had ours for over a year now and it doesn't do anything that our PS4 can't do. The controller is ok but not £500 better.
Honestly, it's the improved framerstes that are the best part
