I put proper BMW dealer plates on my older BM but there isn't a lot of text below the registration to indicate as such. I was hoping for at least the BMW roundal. Still, they were about the same price as Halford's ones, so nothing lost.
What a journey indeed! Was an absolute pleasure. Professional bender 😂 had me in stitches! Not just saying this as we was featured but as a regular viewer before it's been an awesome addition to the channel having a side series to the main content 👌 Looking forward to seeing what's next!!
On behalf of John's fans everywhere, thank you for your excellent workmanship, Javis (you bender 😋), and thanks to all your team for helping us all have more fun with more Auto Shennanigans...👍😊🇦🇺
I've never been a great fan of BMW's, but I must say 30 year old cars look so much better than the crap we get nowadays...especially all those bloody SUV's!!
The only thing I would have issue with is your choice of brake lines. Cupro-nickel lines are as good, if not better, than anything BMW will supply and are a fraction of the price. All that's needed is a flaring tool to fit the correct end pieces. If you've got a professional bender you should also have a flaring tool.
It's a joy seeing a '7er BMW' getting back in good shape. Very well done 👍 It reminds me of the time when my mother worked at a BMW dealer. When I was still at school I regularly visited her during the holidays and was allowed to sit in the new cars in the presentation room. So nice😊
Great to see the car getting some love (especially the silly LED light removal). I used to have a 740i E38 and it was all round the best car I have ever owned. Keep the rust at bay before it gets too expensive!
Well done on restoring (deleting) the LED lights. I admire your drive to restore the the car to it's original build.. The OEM badges will be well worth it as the Ebay specials only last a year or so before fading out.
This is exactly it. With that many lights in the Car LEDs are really not a bad Idea, but if you stray on the Color Temp it can look REAL Bad quite quickly
Excellent work, that man. Welcome back, Gilroy! You’ve also inspired me to get Katja my ‘99 Merc W202 back onto the uneven, rutted, potholed grey stuff after 2 years fallow with rusty brake pipes and a leaking water pump, plus a quiescent current issue caused by none of the usual culprits which will flatten a new battery in 2 days, er, flat. Thanks… I think.
I fancy the visit to the original supplying dealer will see this resolved! Very nice job btw - loving the attention to detail, you have done grandpa proud
Love seeing you replace the 20 odd LED interior lights with 5W incandescent, mmmmmm so I see a new battery being required fairly soon, given its gone flat once already and now when you open a door its like turning on a couple of headlights in the way of loading 😂
literally had no idea you actually liked cars as well as roads.... and prob the best 7 series BMW ever made.... thrilled for me and for you...... your humour is sharp too
This week on Stealer Dealers John fingers a wheel, questions the orientation of a bender, tries to buy a set of used indicators for a BMW then has a heart attack when the labour fees land on his doormat.
Nice refreshtoration John. Aligning the wheel centres so that they are upright when the valve is at bottom or top position would add to the whicked sweet awesomeness
Loving the niche pivot! How long before you start collecting wrecked super cars and restoring them with a strong hook, humour and cheeky story-telling? :D Terrific content as always!
When i had my E36 in the early 00s BMW was the best place to go for many spares. Sparkplugs, for example, were £1.50 each so no paying £20 for two sets of four Bosch ones when you only needed 6. They have got somewhat more mercenary in the intervening years.
Brilliant video. Can't believe the quality of the BMWs of that era. Those brake dust shields-immaculate. Unbelievable. I had a 2011 Audi A5 a few years ago and they were rattling against the disc and generally rotting to bits.Utter rubbish. Love to see all those bits coming apart easily and don't need coding in and all that nonsense. Premium quality cars in those days really were premium. I now have a 24 plate BMW and its no better put together than my wifes 2019 Golf. Would love to see more videos featuring Gilroy.
Thank you. I had the pleasure of being a passenger in a 735 maybe 40 years ago. Owned by a mechanic (great driver). I remember getting pushed back in the seat like on old type jet. So instant love.
Really enjoying the BMW series. Had a good chuckle at the 'professional bender' line. Glad you have gone back to OEM parts. One question, are you not replacing the number plates as they look quite tired, or are you intending to get some when you visit the supplying dealer to have their name on then? Roll on the road trip episode!
You must get to Harrogate, then do the A65 run through Skipton & into the Dales - Grandpa will definitely have wafted around those parts in Gilroy … gods country & full of pubs that need supporting.
Excellent work! I really like the way you've taken the after marker junk off and returned Gilroy to health. I might be able to save that front plate if it's your original. Can't believe how well the bearings came out on that front end. Looking forward to the A1 cruise 👍
Honestly, the badge and maybe the grill(s) are the only cosmetic parts I would have bothered replacing. The rest looked fine to me (assuming they all worked).
Dinner out with my brother this evening and he hired a 2024 BMW 2 Series. First time ever in a Beamer. I can confirm that the dash looks like a spaceship. And he did use the indicators.
Indicator lights on a BMW? that's a novelty....
We got honked at this evening because my brother put the indicators on in the BMW. At least, I think that's why they were honking...
In really good condition... Probably never used
They never get worn out though!
Treat him to a genuine BMW Harrogate number plate when you get there!
that front number plate could do with replacing!
I put proper BMW dealer plates on my older BM but there isn't a lot of text below the registration to indicate as such.
I was hoping for at least the BMW roundal.
Still, they were about the same price as Halford's ones, so nothing lost.
Came here to say the same! Would be a nice little finishing touch
@11:07 nooooooo! 😂 you need to line them up with the tyre valve at the bottom of the wheel and then pop them in, have you no pride 😅
About to say the same thing!
Yep that set me off, what are you doing John 😂
I was just thinking the same ! I would have done it to satisfy my ocd 👍
Ffs, John!
What a DICK!
“… being the professional bender that he is …”
I choked on my tea, I’m such a child.
Had to pause the video, had me in stitches.
@@WarriorRazor Ironic. A guy called Razor in stitches.
Anyone else get a nice surprise of logging onto UA-cam and seeing this update on Gilroy as they hadn’t got a clue it was Friday ? 🤣
G'day SiRhodesDriverTraining,
I get to enjoy Gilroy videos with cup of tea & Vegemite toast for breakfast Saturday morning down here 🙃👎
@ nice. Whereabouts in Oz are you ?
@@SiRhodesDriverTraining Nowra, it's a Rural NSW Coastal town about 2hrs south of Sydney on the No. 1 Hwy
100% Nice little treat when I got home. 🙂
What a journey indeed! Was an absolute pleasure.
Professional bender 😂 had me in stitches! Not just saying this as we was featured but as a regular viewer before it's been an awesome addition to the channel having a side series to the main content 👌

On behalf of John's fans everywhere, thank you for your excellent workmanship, Javis (you bender 😋), and thanks to all your team for helping us all have more fun with more Auto Shennanigans...👍😊🇦🇺
If a professional bender had you in stitches, I recommend that you choose a smaller one next time.
Nice job! Maybe you can refresh the number plates as a treat.
Hat off to the guys at the garage, they've done alright by Gilroy.
He likes to keep his hat on.
A professional bender🤣🤣🤣
He needs some new business cards made up for a qualification like that.
So pleasing to see all the aftermarket tat removed and replaced with proper stuff, even though genuine parts are stupidly expensive
I've never been a great fan of BMW's, but I must say 30 year old cars look so much better than the crap we get nowadays...especially all those bloody SUV's!!
SUVs are the motoring equivalent of Crocs.
@@pw601 At least Crocs are cheap.
A 3 metre brake pole at a... pleasure store... oh my 😂😂😂
You and your mechanics have done your grandfather proud greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
I’m so pleased you mentioned M539 restorations. Really really enjoyed the 7 series content, I hope it appears more on the channel.
Gilroy made you work for it, Jon & Co! Yeah for the NorthantsMX5 team.
A fresh number plate on the front wouldn’t go a miss either Jon. Still it’s looking good!
Congratulations on getting Gilroy back on the road. £5 a wheel nut seems a bargain compared to £20 each for one for an Aston.
Nothing beats the inconvenience, expense and frustration which comes from restoring a classic car!
I’d go with OEM orange indicators front and side (sorry John) 🍊
Fantastic, if a little surprising, to see so much attention being paid to the indicators on a BMW. ;)
Great to see Gilroy back again! hopefully he is going to be ready for this mega drive coming up!
Great job restoring Gilroy. I'm looking forward to the road trip. 👍
It's a joy seeing a '7er BMW' getting back in good shape. Very well done 👍
It reminds me of the time when my mother worked at a BMW dealer. When I was still at school I regularly visited her during the holidays and was allowed to sit in the new cars in the presentation room. So nice😊
Incandescent bulbs look warmer. The attention to detail has made it a fantastic car.
Great to see the car getting some love (especially the silly LED light removal). I used to have a 740i E38 and it was all round the best car I have ever owned. Keep the rust at bay before it gets too expensive!
Well done. Looks amazing. Perhaps all those aftermarket bulbs can be used to refresh Blackpool - enough cool white Lumens there…
Looking good, that was the best looking 7 series, correct alloy wheels. Nice, will be a lovely drive back 'home'
Well done on restoring (deleting) the LED lights. I admire your drive to restore the the car to it's original build.. The OEM badges will be well worth it as the Ebay specials only last a year or so before fading out.
Cold white LEDs are great.
If you want your car to look like a fridge with the door open
This is exactly it. With that many lights in the Car LEDs are really not a bad Idea, but if you stray on the Color Temp it can look REAL Bad quite quickly
Gilroy is a fabulous car. Look after him
When are you planning the Harrogate road trip? Ur welcome for a coffee
I agree about the aftermarket leds. They look horrible on most cars. Nice work on Gilroy.
Should be another Great British Road Journey !
What about the crappy Number Plate?
Bit of tape should fix that.
Definitely replace the number plates, it's amazing how much difference a new set makes to the car.
Especially as it’s been flagged on the last few mots 🤣
I fancy the visit to the original supplying dealer will see this resolved!
Very nice job btw - loving the attention to detail, you have done grandpa proud
If you can get the original supplying dealer to provide the number plates, it'll be even more "genuine " than just going to the local motor factor!
What a car , great looking bmw
Love seeing you replace the 20 odd LED interior lights with 5W incandescent, mmmmmm so I see a new battery being required fairly soon, given its gone flat once already and now when you open a door its like turning on a couple of headlights in the way of loading 😂
Great job! Maybe you can refresh the number plates then your finished .
Thoroughly enjoyed this Gilroy series but surely those scuzzy plates are getting binned 😮💨🤣🤣👍🏼
As ever Jon, absolutely loving this! "replacing lights like a grown up"....roaring and laughing! "Coffee" procured. 🤘
Gilroy looks spiffing. Good job Sir(s).
literally had no idea you actually liked cars as well as roads.... and prob the best 7 series BMW ever made.... thrilled for me and for you...... your humour is sharp too
What a lovely BMW, and kudos to refreshing it.
This week on Stealer Dealers John fingers a wheel, questions the orientation of a bender, tries to buy a set of used indicators for a BMW then has a heart attack when the labour fees land on his doormat.
I've pressed the button specifically for liking this video
It's such a satisfying thing to do
Nice refreshtoration John.
Aligning the wheel centres so that they are upright when the valve is at bottom or top position would add to the whicked sweet awesomeness

Great job you must be very happy with the all the hard work you guys have put in.
Great old BMW
Thanks Jon
Agree on the chrome grill being better, and the number plate lights, but not sure the yellowish incandescent interior bulbs is an improvement.
When i had my E36 in the early 00s BMW was the best place to go for many spares. Sparkplugs, for example, were £1.50 each so no paying £20 for two sets of four Bosch ones when you only needed 6.
They have got somewhat more mercenary in the intervening years.
Definitely a nice looking car & glad you’re giving the love/care & attention that it deserves. Keep up the good work 👍
I did the same LED madness on my E46 330D... Best 'drivers car' I ever had.
Looking very good indeed. Hopefully Gilroy will be back on the roads in the new year. Fingers crossed. Still Merry Christmas & have a nice New Year.

Hi Jon, Gilroy is looking good just as the day when it came off the production line in Germany, sounding sweet, ready for the run, take care
I love the self awareness, honestly golden
This channel just get's better and better! Not too sure why you wanted to get rid of the interor led's though.
Because Jon is neither a teenager or chav!
Love seeing a Beamer come back to life. The one I used to have, an E39 535, was the same colour.
10:45 The miata stares into my soul.
You must get to Harrogate, then do the A65 run through Skipton & into the Dales - Grandpa will definitely have wafted around those parts in Gilroy … gods country & full of pubs that need supporting.
I just wanted to say how much I love watching your channel.
De-chavvification on such a lovely machine is a great idea 👍
Looking forward to the road trip. Plenty of engine noise clips please.
I made it a whopping one line before laughing 😂 I'm actually sad Gilroy is fixed, enjoyed these videos
Yay to the adventure!
Gilroy is looking awesome and I bet he is feeling better too. Great work to you all.
Great video Jon, it must have been glorious driving Gilroy for the first time.
Looking forward to the Harrogate trip in your usual style.
Loved seeing the progress
It pleases me to see that you're bringing one of BMWs finest cars back to original standards 😊
Excellent work! I really like the way you've taken the after marker junk off and returned Gilroy to health. I might be able to save that front plate if it's your original.
Can't believe how well the bearings came out on that front end.
Looking forward to the A1 cruise 👍
Once had the pleasure of an extended road test in a seven series lightweight coupe. I also liked the video & used the thumbs up button.
Honestly, the badge and maybe the grill(s) are the only cosmetic parts I would have bothered replacing. The rest looked fine to me (assuming they all worked).
Nice one, Jon, it's looking so much better
That car will serve you well sir.
That number plate needs sorting now. Didn't notice it before but stands out like a sore thumb now the rest is done.
The professional bender 😂
Excellent! Really enjoyed this series, now looking forward to the Roadtrip.
Perfect introduction, straight to the point! 🤣
06:44 the same smile we got when the count ticked over from 999,999 in the 100k video. Geart content, M
A mechanic with a claw hammer is normally a red flag, but these guys seem pretty good.
Very handsome car that, good decision on the LED deletes.
Dinner out with my brother this evening and he hired a 2024 BMW 2 Series. First time ever in a Beamer. I can confirm that the dash looks like a spaceship. And he did use the indicators.
Merry christmas and a happy new year to you and Gilroy.
@3:06 Now there's an idea, "Little Chef's of the A1, what are they now?"
Looks very good Jon and hopefully it drives as good as it looks 👍👍🇦🇺
Welcome to the wonderful world of vintage BMWs! Please enjoy while it lasts.
Great to see gilroy returning to the roads all the best John ⚓️🧲😁👍
One minute ago? This is the earliest I've ever been.
And I haven't finished having a good week yet.
4:00 was that a pink bentley? Gilroy ur starting to look like the beast again.
All the best for 2025 Jon
Good content, humorous as always. Hope you had a crackin Xmas and a safe new year.
Fun to watch
Ahh I love all of the shenanigans...but that patch of rust is making me itch! Jon, please sort it 😀
"Like a grown up!" 🤭😂
Great job 👏🏼
Great video. Love these old 7s. Glad you checked out M539 he is the master on old bms
Nice work. ❤
