Man, this is good stuff. So great to escape the abominable department-store renditions of Christmas carols and hear something as warm and soulful as this.
Me too Sister Catherine Cook and I'm 59 years old , but I am still waiting too ! Strength and Honor Sister Catherine ! Seasons Greetings to you , your family and friends ! HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE !!!!!! (1 DECEMBER 2018 1745 hours)
_" This really is how this song should always be played!"_ I wasn't so sure about that statement when I first read it, but after thinking about it a bit, I believe you're right. This version expresses real joy: not a superficial, over-the-top simulation thereof.
Love it! This makes me think of one of Mr Pickwick's frolics, despite the renaissance instrumentation. Guess I always fgall into the trap of forgetting gthe comma between "merry" and "gentlemen", so I'm seeing landlords filling flowing bowls, which is not the message at all!
Wonderful. Her diction is superb, every word clear as a bell. Great musicians. Fantastic basson. Great drummer.
Maddy Prior - still one of the finest voices ever. Brilliant, thank you!

I've been wanting to grow up and be Maddy Pryor since 1972. It hasn't happened yet, but I'm still hoping!

Just self identify as Maddy. Those top notes won't matter.
So beautiful
....blessed voice and musicians XX
This is wonderful!
Terrific. Love this arrangement.
Excellent version. It's almost as if Gryphon is jamming with Maddy and the gang. This really is how this song should always be played!

Pure English-superb !
Merry Christmas, Maddy.
Forward as one, and down with Old Nick and his lackeys!
Anybody know what instrument the man is playing that looks like a basson?
That is a Rankett
Actually I think it’s a Curtall (also known as a Dulcian). Ranketts are much shorter and have more buzzy tone
i love it! though i prefer her cd version from a tapestry of carols with less of that "lilting" she's doing so much in this version.
