I am listening to this for what seems like the hundredth time and my favorite part is at the very first when Julianne says..."and joy". Then looks up and you know something special is coming and then you find out that you were right!
Dear fans of the Petersens: Drove over 200 miles to see them live in St. Marys, Ohio last week--- they're every bit the first-class, talented performers you'd imagine. Authentic... soulful. Left convinced that there are, indeed, angels--- and for two hours, this family brought heaven to earth.
I love this edition to this song. Rhythm and how everything is put together - this just became my favorite Christmas/gospel song. It's beautiful - you've earned a fan!
All amazing here. Juliannas voice is fantastic. Then Katie joins with the violin. Brilliant as usual. In this rubbish world they bring light into my darkness.
Wow! Wow! Wow! I've been a guitarist and musician for 61 years ... You could line up 10,000 female vocalists and Julianne would stand well above them all. What a voice and style and her pitch is absolutely dead-on, on this, my favorite Christmas worship song!
I was just thinking the same thing. How many thousands of female vocalist would one have to audition to find the vocal and tonal qualities that Julianne exhibits? I’m just awestruck…
I'm glad i went back to find this gem. It's Simply one of my very favorite videos on UA-cam. Katie's violin solo is incredible and Julieanne's vocals are majestic. Very well done Petersens! Emmett is incredible as always. Matt too.
I am repeatedly blown away by the maturity and sophistication of Julianne's vocal style. It is rich in inflection and nuance and never overdone. Her voice might be the smallest in the ensemble, but she gets more out of her instrument than anyone else, save perhaps Emmett's dobro. The Petersens are all excellent musicians, but to my ear these two are on another level of virtuosity.
Julianne has such a unique and beautiful voice. I could listen to her for hours! One day she is going to realize that and really cut loose! The arrangement and instrumentals were awesome as always. You make me smile.
Julianne’s voice is beautiful. Emmit’s Dobro solo was over the top awesome, and Katie’s fiddle play was at a whole other level of good. I’ll probably watch this video 100 times before Christmas.
This arrangement is topnotch! The interplay of the voice and instruments is great. You've given this song new energy in a subtle way. I appreciate that!
4:19 when she hits that note and the biggest smile afterwards...she just warms my heart. So well done Petersen family! Thank you for the wonderful song and God bless!!
II have heard literally dozens of versions of this song. Usually I don't like musicians to change the style of songs, especially Christmas songs but the Petersons style and HEART on this song made it the best version i have EVER heard. THIS GROUP HAS IT'S HEART IN IT'S MUSIC. That's the way it should be.
Their arrangement is a riff on the recording by the Bare Naked Ladies, which is also very, very good. Give it a listen. I love what the family has done with it.
Moms look of satisfaction and pride as she listened to her children finish another beautiful song warmed my heart and made me smile. She is a beautiful mother whom obviously gave her children a sound foundation for life. Well done all of you!
As a 38 year old metal head, ive got to admit that this version brought a tear to my eye. And i cant stop listening! Amazing job, absolutely incredible! Merry Christmas! ✝️🇺🇸🎄
found these fine people about 40 mins ago...like the first 2 songs...noticed they use two different vocalist ...so...bounced around song to song to see if they keep alternating main vocals.... they all have been good....but this young lady is jaw dropping. wow! So much talent in this group and absolutely amazing vibes!!!!
Julianne's voice is unique, and rich. The instrumentals were fantastic. I have never heard one song by the Peterson's that haven't been over the top fantastic. Love what these young folks are doing.
WOW. This year I so needed to hear this lovely bluegrass version of this Christmas classic. Thank you! Love and good will from a 3rd generation nyc born and bred. God Bless America.
These guys play this song from the heart. Just watched them for the first time on this video. They have done a tremendous job! Every musician is such a good player making a beautiful team. Thank you! I would love to see you live someday.
Everyone shines as usual. Katie's fiddle lead was so exquisite it got under the skin, almost uncomfortably. Emmett's dobro skills were just perfect. Matt's rhythm was rock steady, like a freight train. But my, my, Julianne's voice! I've don't know if I've ever heard as irresistible a vocal break used that skillfully for interpretation! Julianne has made great strides as a vocalist in just the past year or so. She commands the space and radiates confidence. Her progress really is breathtaking. Way to go, guys. Out of the park. Home Run! I'm a fan of the Petersons for life.
I normally dislike any alteration to traditional Christmas music, but this arrangement and performance is by far the most incredible thing I've ever heard!
This is my favorite version of this Christmas classic. Julianne's voice is amazing and I love the jazzy rhythm. Everything about this arrangement and performance is simply fantastic
That is absolutely amazing that got to #3 on the billboards with this song! The more I listen to your music, the more I think that Emmett deserves the IBMA Dobro Player of the Year.
How do you become prolific as the Petersen’s as musicians? Practice, practice, practice…and all sing beautifully. Julianne is a once in a generation singer, headed for Super Stardom. Will definitely work towards attending a concert. Thanks for sharing your gifts with the world. Imagine if Mom and Dad had not attended that Bluegrass concert and made the decision “we’re going to be a Bluegrass band”. Thanks Mom and Dad Petersen! God bless you all, always.
Well Done......! Julianne's voice is SO unique, it just makes me smile. I never can tell where or what she is looking at (only when singing), but its so darn cute. Great job guys. Katie's violin 'rift' was fantastic. She got everything that violin had to give.........!
This young woman has accomplished something very special. In the face of having to come along after her two sisters, who are both very fine singers, Julianne has managed to develop a style and flair OF HER OWN. That is mighty rare, especially these days, when aping others seems to be a professional requisite. Good for her!
I love how the other sisters look at their lead sister with such pride and joy. I never had that relationship with my siblings. Urban Brooklyn New York here and I am loving this tune
I have seven siblings and we still do look at each other like this (even when we’re not playing music, although almost all of us do play instruments)…and it’s such a joy in our lives to have this. That might be one of the many reasons I enjoy the Petersen videos so much - it reminds me that I should always cherish the great gift our parents gave us, and that we still give each other.
Another hit. Julianne's voice is so mesmerizing. The entire arrangement brought a whole new level to this Christmas classic. Katie's fiddle solo along with Emmett's Dobro performance brought real depth to the performance. Also can't help but mention how Mama's bass kept the entire rendition grounded. Thank you so much for all of the joy you bring to everyone with each new release.
First heard this amazing version of this around this time last year and made a comment. For some unknown reason to me I was walking down the street this morning and it came into my head and had to revisit as soon as I got home......Brilliant. 🎄
Wow!!! Again, Julianne's HAUNTINGLY beautiful voice!!! I also love the way Katie "bends" those notes on the violin!!! But, it's the way the older sis' smile at their baby sister, that truly warms my heart...LOVED IT!!!
Wonderful. Heart warming to listen to this with my boys in my arms. As a swiss citizen I also take a strange sort of pride hearing distant echoes of yodel in that beautiful singing.

Wow, Wow, Wow this is the first complete song I hurt this member sing and WOW. I love the tone pitch and way it was done. Put her on the mic a lot more. Wow
*LYRICS - God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen*
------------
God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
From God our heavenly Father
A blessed angel came
And unto certain shepherds
Brought tidings of the same
How that in Bethlehem was born
A Son of God by name
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
In Bethlehem in Israel
The blessed Babe was born
And laid within a manger
Upon that blessed morn
For which His mother Mary
Did nothing take in scorn
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy
God rest ye merry, gentlemen
Let nothing you dismay
Remember Christ our Savior
Was born on Christmas Day
To save us all from Satan's power
When we were gone astray
O tidings of comfort and joy
Comfort and joy
O tidings of comfort and joy

Juliannes singing is a comfort and joy.
It just does not get any sweeter and purer than this.

The dobro solos on all the videos I've seen are amazing. Beautifully melodic. Technically masterful. You can tell when someone practices a lot.
This arrangement is topnotch! The interplay of the voice and instruments is great. You've given this song new energy in a subtle way. I appreciate that!
The Petersens made me a blue grass fan, they do excellent work. Merry Christmas.
Me too! I was never a 'blue grass fan'....but now I love it! I love music by The Petersens....(& also the Lindsey Family)!

This is such a soulful version with a little added swing. Amazing touch by everyone. Another example of the depth of your collective talent.
BTW: Kudos to the audio engineer for excellent EQ'ing and volume mixing! Fiddle and Dobro solos were absolutely wonderful!!
Good call, mixing can be horrible on an otherwise great performance from the artists!
Beautiful sisters. Julianne's voice has that special flare.
