Welcome to a new series I am calling "Only Time Will Tell'. With this new experiment, I want to take nearly new cars to not only find out what they are like to drive, but how the compare today vs their first appearance.
Here is the 2015 Tesla Model S 85D. The Model S and Tesla are amongst the greatest celebrities of the car world, a lot of people talk about them. The Model S 85D came out in 2014 and became the first electric vehicle that everyday people really cared about. There has been facelifts, updated technology and even faster models that have replaced this Model S, the 85D. Now it's time to find out if you really need a Performance Tesla to get the full experience.

Special thanks have to go out to the owner that allowed me to take his pride-and-joys for a spin! www.brentmacintosh.com

I bought a 2015 S85D from Tesla in April 2019, with 12,004 miles. It was a returned 3 year lease and felt like a brand new car. At that time, it came with a 4 year/50,000 mile warranty starting from my delivery date, free supercharging and free premium connectivity. 19” wheels, Technology Upgrade with Autopilot 1.0, all heated seats, premium sound system with subwoofer, and panoramic sunroof. Best part was the price, about 60% of the sticker price. I LOVE it.

In my opinion this car looks better than the new version, especially speaking of the interior design.

That car, that year, is Stunning In Black with those wheels! I would pay the price even if it was an ICE car. It's beautiful!!

In your description you say "The Model S came out in 2014...", but the Model S first came out in 2012. Perhaps you meant the 85D first came out in Novemer 2014.

Wul Vershon amazing!!! I’m never going back!! I ended up with a P85 model s with 37k on the clock. It’s highly spec’d and had the LTE Upgrade and dual charger. Plus air suspension, sunroof, 21’s, premium audio etc. Costs about £4 to charge and is fast. I’m sold and will never go back to an ICE car.

I actually bought the exact same 85D (full black), which can't be delivered because of Covid-19 pandemia. So thank you helping me to be patient :)

Currently deciding on if I should get a standard model 3 or this exact used Model S do you think it would be worth buying the S in the long run because am hoping I can trade it in for a cyber truck

    • @Camille-LG

@@scuffedjuan7200 Definitely What conviced me :
      - I am in love with the model S design, a mix between Jaguar, Aston Martin, ...
      - I need a hatchback so my dog can sit in the trunk.
      - I feel confortable inside, plenty of space and no sound at all.
      - Most important : Valuation haircut curve. My car was sold 103k€ in 2016 and I just bought it 44k€ in 2020. (-57% of its initial value).
Example with a 44k€ 2020 model 3 (my same budget) value could be around 20k€ in 2024. I think this is a worst scenario because TMS was sold as a luxury car while TM3 is "the affordable one".
Model 3 is also a good car (more technology, better efficiency, faster charge, powerful CPU for entertainments, ...).
In facts, if you like Model S, just go for it. Updates and technology are still way better than 99% of other cars ...
If you prefer model 3, I would recommend you to buy a young used one. You keep Tesla guaranty, and avoid the 20% value lost of buying it brand new.
Last advise : don't buy cybertruck, it is ugly AF :D

Great video and smart comments. I like the Model S, but I don't like US federal subsidies for any electric vehicle. I have no idea if the same subsidies exist in Canada. The USA is financially bankrupt and should not be wasting money on subsidies for expensive cars so rich people can feel "green." We should only subsidize food and housing and medical treatment for poor people, not spend money on corporate welfare and toys for the wealthy. Electric car battery technology is not yet cost effective. Some day it may be, and when that day comes no one will need a subsidy, a.k.a. bribe, to buy the product. Let consumer demand rule the marketplace, not forced government mandates and subsidies we finance by borrowing money from Japan, China, Europe, the Middle East, etc. Other than that, the Model S is a beautiful car.

The US spends about $37 Billion per year on fossil fuel subsidies. Add to that the military costs for policing that part of the world, the unseen costs we bear (which will get worse) due to climate change, health care costs related to impact of air quality, and environment destruction in the quest for resources like shale oil. Those are real but invisible subsidies prolonging the status quo.
