    These 'Classic Carlisle195" videos are well worth rewatching. I have always liked Adam's Moss Camp. You made quite an overnight home at the end of your hike. Then: a full-on restaurant meal, cooked over the campfire.

    If you are fishing for trout you could float a few maggots down river on a size 10 hook into the quieter water and see what happens. Fish also like to shelter behind rocks when the river is in spate like that and wait for something to come along,they are creatures of habit. Remember to keep feeding the swim with a few maggots now and again to get their attention. Good luck mate.

    I know you enjoy building your camps, into log fortresses, but why all that hard work. Such a lot of time and effort hauling logs in from everywhere when a hammock is so quick and easy. Great vid again, thank you.

    Chef, you would probably have better luck fishing in the stiller waters below the short bits of rapids. Fish will sit a little deeper waiting for things to wash down stream to eat. They're very opportunistic. Another fantastic video.

      Hey my friend Im new and I've been on a youtube marathon catching up with you. I camp quite a lot, and love camp cooking... In your fishing, where the water rushes over the rocks spilling into deeper more calm water, the spot where the water swirls around and back and somewhat settles, not just the slack water, but that spot that turns back, great spot to cast to.... its deeper, and the food swirls back to that spot, fish are just waiting... don't fish in the fast shallows.... 😁..

    Try fishing the bottom of that small weer with a bubble float and a small worm. leave the bail arm off on your reel when you cast it in and keep you finger lightly under the line as it trots down the stream. You will feel the bite on the line pass over your fingers quickly, snap the bail arm on and lift the rod tip. Reel it in 😁Happy fishing 🎣 🎣

  • @johnwessinger7768
    @johnwessinger7768 6 років тому +1

    John I would think with it flooding it would be much much harder to catch fish when it is flooded. Also you said lots of debris passing down the river so getting that all tangled in your line want be a pleasant experience at all. Could loose lures, hooks or even your rod if not at all careful.Me personally I would think you would have better luck when the waters go down and the water gets back to normal but that's my opinion. Great video so keep them coming!!!

    1st , let me congratulate you for rescuing Mrs. Wilson :-) , , I bet Gary will get a kick out of that , , LOL . . . 2nd , another fine roasted spit whole chicken , , man , that looked tasty. . . 3rdly , as to fishing , and not knowing your local regulations , I would just toss a nice worm on a weighted hook to where the eddys would carry it into a deep pool and just let it sit for a few minutes , keeping a sharp watch on the rod tip. That's a good place to start , you'll learn more as you go. If you can't use live bait , a artificial nice big fat white grub works well too :-)

  • @Jakeyctv

    In terms of fishing, try and fish stiller water, or a deep cove. In the light, fish will try and hide from the light. Also after a flood is good, the fish will feed off debris and wait for it to be flushed down.

    Fishing during floods probably won't turn out very well as the fish are stressed and are not gonna bite but after the water goes down a bit fishing should be very good!! fish like to hang out calm flat areas or under low hanging trees over the water that's where I fish in the states you should also read up on Native/primitive fish traps some really good stuff great vid chef!!!

  • @saraskold9631
    @saraskold9631 7 років тому

    Nice video with regards to your fishing questions , in know here in New York the fish go deep for winter but it depends o n what species of fish you are going after aslo... some like fast water , others slow so read up on the fish in your area

  • @lawsonpopejoy4398
    @lawsonpopejoy4398 7 років тому

    Here in the US typically you'd want to wait until the water has ceded to normal height before going after fish, normally I would fish out of lakes, ponds and private reservoirs but I don't know if you have those in Europe. The kind of species you are targeting also can play a huge role in the current and height, but typically you can catch fish in muddy water it will just be a slower and more tedious process where live baits work amazing. Hopefully this covered some of your questions, cheers from Oklahoma, USA

    Another great camp chef. Looking forward to some fishing vids. If you know what species of fish are in that river, you`ll be able to research info about them easier. Google something like `Trout in fast water` . Good luck.

      @isleofwightdave2286 7 років тому

      Nice! I do a lot of sea fishing, not up too much on my freshwater fishing. I do know that trout can be taken on garden worms fished under a small float. Maybe on a size 6 to 10 hook. You'll catch if you put the hours in.

  • @MrMigido
    @MrMigido 7 років тому

    Hya John, glad to see you well,
    Re fishing..Wait for the levels to drop. When the river is in a flood the fish will have tucked themselves away in the banks to get out of the current and save energy. Bigger fish can handle the currentb ut they will dominate spots nly when they know that food is plentiful.
    Fish are cold blooded, in winter their metabolism drops to a go slow, this means they need less food and so will expend little energy trying to find it.. only a very hungry fish will go looking for food at this time.. In summer, warm water holds less oxygen so fish tend to rest up for most of the day.
    Fish live off the "hatch", ie, at different times, different insects fill their diet. Spring and Autumn are when these things keep the fish really busy and greeedy (Getting condition for breeding and laying up fat for winter). In summer they lay low in the heat of the day (set you rigs deep) and cruise a circuit at dawn and dusk.. feeding low to mid water in the morning and feed the surface in the evening. They will also feed bait fish and crayfish etc at night.
    That river will be a fly fishing only river? Ie. no Course fishing?. You can get floating and sinking "flies" (floating and sinking lines too).Try to find out about the entomology inhabiting the river and match "flies" (lures) to that area and season.
    For fly fishing, fish(cast) upstream, "stalk" the fish if you can and certainly approach holding spots cautiously....you will learn to recognise likely spots. Cast up stream and be sure to retrieve your line as the lure comes back to you. keep your lie short or you will not feel the "strike" until it has happened and the fish has spat the hook. Gently gently. Hush hush. Never let get between the source of light and the water, the fish will see you and bugger off.
    Fly fishing is easier than it is made out.. just focus on a distance of 30 feet for that river and try to learn to get the leading tippet to gently "roll out" as you lay the line.. it will spook the fish less if your lure is laid on the water as opposed to being "lobbed" at it.
    ALWAYS EXPECT TO CATCH SOMETHING..... that "attitude" will telegraph down your line " actively". A line lobbed without any interest is going to appear "lazy" to a fish.. they want to catch " life", even though they will eat dead stuff.
    Oi.. you wont catch me any bloody flint with a rod and line! lol
    Be well
    Migs

    Think of the bits that the fish eat flowing down the river. Fish big enough to eat would likely be waiting in the eddies for those goodies to come to them. Fish the eddies first. Bit of worm sometimes with a little marshmallow just might work.

    Any place there is a drop off. Cove fish will hangout. They wait for anything tasty to come by. And yes they can see in murky water. One reason I use stick baits. They vibrate which really sets them off.
