My headcanon for this story is that the entire human army is made up of divisions corresponding to different mythologies, and all of the soldiers and generals are just really dedicated Live Action Roleplayers.
I imagine they could have added Hel, a ship housing downloaded human minds inside mechanical bodies to be deployed in way, and Jormungandr, a ship designed specifically to kill planets

When the Sons of Odin and the Daughters of Freya march to war you shall see Ragnarok. When the Sons of Odin and Daughters of Frey march to peace you shall see Vallhalla.
Lo, There do I see my Father Lo, There do I see my Mother and My Brothers and my Sisters Lo, There do I see the line of my people back to the begining Lo, They do call to me They bid me take my place among them in the halls of Valhalla Where thine enemies have been vanquished Where the brave shall live Forever Nor shall we mourn but rejoice for those that have died the glorious death.

When the enemy is losing the battle, and this is still a positive outcome for them in the light of the possible consequences of them winning the battle...
We may be few, and our enemies many. Yet so long as there remains one of us still fighting, one who still rages in the name of justice and truth, then by the Allfather, the galaxy shall yet know hope.
Wonderful story and good narration! My only complaint is in the pronunciation of the Norse words. For example, those words ending in ir you pronounced liked er should have been pronounced closer I believe to ear. But that's only a minor issue. I still very much enjoyed the story and narration, thank you very much for reading it!
I like the implication that Nordic Mithology becomes so popular one day that humanity as a whole takes the role play serius and this is the consequence.

....this was a pretty terribly written story, it made no sense. Like, why in the hell would they destroy the sun if they were there to save people calling for help? It feels as if the writer got lazy or had writers block halfway through and just wanted to get it over with.
My headcanon for this story is that the entire human army is made up of divisions corresponding to different mythologies, and all of the soldiers and generals are just really dedicated Live Action Roleplayers.
Imagine what would happen if the pagan fleet, or the Greek or Roman fleets
Or even the Vatican fleet
That was the impression i got from the last lines that since each fleet would have its own response to annihilation. So many good mythos to pull from
The "Sol War" series is pretty interesting.
It just started out as a historical lecture in an alien school, but branched out a lot.
The Hindu inspired fleets would also be terrifying.
The Buddhist fleet is just diplomats
I imagine they could have added Hel, a ship housing downloaded human minds inside mechanical bodies to be deployed in way, and Jormungandr, a ship designed specifically to kill planets
There isn't a harder mic drop than. "The system no longer has a sun."
The system, that they were asked to SAVE, had the sun destroyed by them, because they failed.
considering it apparently still exists though..being renamed etc.... what ever process the god slayer set in motion must have turned at least some part of the sun into something else to remain as gravitational anchor i wonder at what ratio...and what it was
I'm reminded of the leviathan ships from Endless Space 2.
But kinda stupid through. Aren't they fighting to push out the invaders from the system? Rather than destroying it?

If they think Ragnarok was bad I shudder to to consider how they would feel about Götterdämmerung
Götterdämmerung is an opera from Wagner. Götterdämmerung is an german translation of the old-Norse word Ragnarok.

This brings to mind the game too human

Ackshually! Einherjar doesn't mean Honoured Dead, it means "One Fighters", referring to their role of fighting in the sole, final battle of Ragnarok.
Aren't the Einherjar the Honoured Dead, who are training in Valhalla, when they're not feasting?
Imagine, as a comment here pointed out, that this was only "the viking division" of humankinds armies 😅 damn son, that would be awesome.
This was a masterpiece

Fire blood and steel, well we know the author has heard of the Brothers Of Metal.

This story is filled with style!!
Heck yeah!
Fear the Asir, cower before the Raiders, and if you see a Doombeserkir… run.
