very useful information, i am going to test my CBR1000RR charging system today, i bought new battery about 3 weeks and yesterday i found it out of acid.

Thanks. Watching a video makes it clear and not so scary.

thanks for the video explanation. I have the same bike and two parts of the stator look burnt out like yours. 0.3 Ohms between each of the phases. Back when I bike started having problems I was finding continuity between positive and negative. I think with this stator fault there's a short to ground and it rapidly discharges your battery and there's no fuse that trips.
What actually has gone wrong with your stator? An insulation breakdown? I imagine there should be high resistance from each of the yellow wires to the body of your bike. How many ohms did your good stator read?
Back when these bikes were newer Honda had a product recall on this part years ago so it appears to be a common fault.

Due to the triangle type connection on the stator if one phase is short the all three will show the same, but if one phase has a cut somewhere then probably you will see the other 2 working and that one not working..
Can somebody give a good reason for stator burning coils ? Lately I've heard that also oil has something to do with..
Very nice and clear to understand video by the way.

I buy a new stator for my Cbr1000rr 2004 from electrosport but the external diameter is 3 millimeter smaller than the old one can I install it?

Thanks that helped ,, Real quick ,,Once new stator is in do u need to use a seal or gasket of some sort on the cover case before booting up?

theres a black silicone you can apply to it, hardware store or auto parts store, comes in a tube with tooth paste lid, i prefer the caulking gun oven-sealant silicone that can take 300degrees celcius, its the same stuff and u get to re-use that stuff by leaving a tiny dap outside of your caulking gun tube and just yanking that once its dry out of the end piece and seal something else up days/months/weeks later. 15 bucks for huge tube or 15bucks for small toothepaste one that cannot be re-used once you open it, stupid isnt it

was wondering if somone could help.i did the diode test and got no reading were i should have and .535 across all the readings were i should.i did the ohms test on the stator which gave me .003 on all the conectors and the ground test which it passed aswell. so both the rectifier and stator have passed all the tests but the voltage at 5000 rpm is only 13.1. I should also mention the battery is brand new with a voltage at 12.7 when off. does anyone have any idea what could be wrong?

Were there any indicators, other than the bike not starting leading up to you thinking the stator was bad? Did the bike stall at low revs, and were you hearing a noise coming from the stator side of the engine? Thanks for sharing.

There was no stalling or noise from the stator. The only indicator was that it cranked over slow so I took it for a spin to see if the battery would charge but it made no difference. So that meant that either the battery was gone and could not hold charge or their was something wrong with the charging system.

Hi peter, i bought same bike last week n i put a new bat on it cos it wouldnt start after i stopped at Areys Inlet riding from Melbourne to Lorne. What a day that was waiting for roadside assist to jump start me. So bought the new bat n 3 days later tried to start it n it was dead. Do u think I damaged anything from Areys Inlet to Melbourne cos bat wasnt charging.. Cheers..
Great video n very helpful gonna check my bike now..

Maybe the battery was not the problem to start with. You could have a broken wire in the charging system but the most common problem is the stator needs replacing. Check the regulator too.

Hi , I have the same problem on my Bird 1999 , if I leave it with head lights on for few min , with engine off , it won't start anymore . If I keep the engine running but no acceleration its charging 13.1 , 13.4 volts but if I accelerate the charging it shows 14.8 , 15 volts , isn't that a problem ? to much charging ? the Blackbird was not used for a long time so it could be just the battery , it doesn't keep electricity in it anymore ?

The charging when started is ok and within normal range. I would say the battery does not hold charge. Measure the battery voltage at idle . It should be around 12.8v ...then turn the lights on ( just ignition) it should drop a bit and keep measuring and see if it keeps losing charge and dropping voltage at a quick rate.

HI, do you have to drop the oil out of the bike, Thank you

No, you do not need to drain the oil.
