18v. preamp. That means 2 x 9v battery. And a lid that has to be unscrewed with a screwdriver. Would a drop-in compartment have made such a difference in price? It sure would have made life easier for the player. Otherwise a great bass.
Thanks for a nice review ! I like active basses and been thinking of buying a Tribute L-2000 for a while, but this model looks really nice too. Pray say, what bass amp are you playing in this video ? sounds very nice. (I like to use a EBS Microbass II with my active basses).
I have an M-1000 and absolutely hate it. Weird because I love G&L guitars. I'm a guitarist with a few basses. I love my SD Curlee though. Highly recommend them.
Ted Riggs I haven't had any real time spent with the 2000. My problem with the 1000 is the one pup (I'm really not a fan of the P-Bass either), but also the neck just feels unloved to me. Like it needs sanding and 40 years of breaking in. To be fair, I'm a guitarist, not a bassist so I'm used to really comfortable necks like my Charvels have. I owned a Charvel bass at one time and it had a decent neck for a bass. The G&L is difficult to dial in a good tone with too. I can't just set it and forget it. As a guitarist, I like mid - short scale basses. For mid-scale, I love my friends Birdsong. That thing makes me wish I was a full time bassist. Hope I answered your question... and showed I'm not trolling... just my preference.
Guitar Whores Thanks for the reply. I started as a bassist about 15 years ago, but only played for a couple years before switching to guitar. Recently, I've been considering buying another bass. I've got the two that my parents bought me when I was around 15-16, but they're cheap and the sound doesn't do anything for me. TBH, if I could justify spending a couple grand on a new bass, I'd buy a '70's Gibson Grabber, but that's not a realistic option for me. I saw the G&L Tribute M-2000 GBT (never heard of G&L before, actually) and it currently seems to be the best bang-for-your-buck bass in the price range. As a guitarist, a shorter scale is easier, of course, but as someone who began with bass, the traditional length and fret size is something I should be able to get used to again. I'll keep looking, and I'll look up Birdsong, but I'm really leaning towards that M-2000. Thanks again. p.s. My brother's got a Charvel guitar from when he used to play, maybe 25 years ago and I've always loved that instrument. It's pretty special.
Excellent review. You really covered what the bass is capable of. Excellent tone. Thanks.
Thanks for playing my favorite slap line in the demo, Forget Me Nots. Also, the intro from Portrait of Tracy. Great stuff!
Ive always loved G&L basses, this model especially. Chris Joannou (silverchair) has used them for almost 20 years

I agree
Great review of a solid, versatile axe.
I have had 3 L's since 2007, and would like to add an M for the hell of it. These have their own unique sound, I am starting to like it.

Can't go wrong with the G&L guitar line
Try watching with headphones. Computer speakers aren't friendly towards bass frequencies.
where i can buy ?
The L2000 has a passive/active switch which I really like. Does anyone know if this bass (M2000) is active only?
it is, that is why you always go L series.

+Guitar Whores Why do you hate the M-1000? Do you like the M-2000 series?
