@@BassWhispererTV Hey Ed, great to see you back. Always enjoyed your videos. Ever thought about getting a Patreon in addition to your UA-cam channel? Cheers!
I have to admit, at 2:58 when you started playing, I got a little bit emotional. Reminded me of the early years of my endeavour in gear nerdery. Great to see you back Ed!
Same here lol. I found this channel back in 2008, a year of so after I first started playing bass. I actually bought a Genz Benz Shuttle MAX 6.0 because of Ed. Great memories watching this channel!
A P bass is the best overall. Other basses are great and like icing on the cake but the P bass is the foundation especially if you’re studio recording a lot of songs
Ed, watching your video on the Musicman Sterling 9 years ago inspired me to become a better bassist (and purchase that particular bass which is still as great as the day I got it). I've come a long way since then and it's great to see you still making videos and inspiring others. Thank you, I hope I'll be as good as you one day!
This was the video that made me pull the trigger on the L-1000. I got the gold Pharaoh Mist one and it has been a revelation. My favorite and best bass in my small collection!
I love this guy's technique, makes an awesome sound on whatever he plays. You know what? I recon one of those things would sound amazing with flat wound strings. Thanks for the video.
How has that bass held up ? I have a 83' on the way to Guitar Center for me to try. I am not sure if I should save for the new L-1000 or try an older model ? Any advice.
Go down and check out the 83 and see if it’s in good condition. If the neck is straight, if the frets are in good shape, if the electronics are sound, if it sounds good. It might be a great value. I see them going from $800 to $1200 used. The new ones seem to be coming in around $1599. If it’s in good shape and around the $800 price I might opt for the older one. If it’s closer to $1200 I’d just save a little more and go for the newer model. Mine, outside of some buckle rash and cracking paint finish and some cosmetic wear, is in awesome shape. The neck and fret wear are prefect. So I know they can age well and I wasn’t the most gentle of players through the years.
Sounds good. I’ve been reading that the older necks could be troublesome. These new ones just look great, and sound amazing. I want a side by side comparison, but very open to vintage too.. ahhhh
A great review as always. Having owned an original L1000 (#3) at one time I was prepared to fall in love with this bass, but the huge frets (.110 x .057 Jescar) put me off it. Having said that I may order one w/ different frets which is always an option w/ G&L.
Great to see you (and "BP") again. I have that very rig - in large part to your past reviews of Jeff Genzler's other great products. Keep the reviews coming - yours are the best and most comprehensive out there.
What is great about this video is that you let us know the different sounds the bass makes when made of different woods. Very, very nice as no one else does this.
I haven't had the chance to do a direct comparison... but OMG on the 1K is different than Series Mode on the L2k... for one, you get some single coil hum with OMG... but it also has more low end, less midrange than Series.
Bass Whisperer TV, Ed, that is a powerful testimony and especially considering the snobbery I have heard about basswood. You probably don’t recognize my name, but you were instrumental in my first serious bass purchase a ‘03 P Am Std and my first G&L (M 2500). The emails we exchanged really made me look hard and decide to get a G&L. So good to see the Whisperer back on my video feed.
I had been jonesing for one of these for a while. But when I dropped a Bill Lawrence P-46 pickup into a P Bass, it all but eliminated my L-1000 lust. However, I must admit, if I thought that playing a L-1000 would get me even an inch closer to sounding as frightening as Dee Murray, I'd buy 10 of them.
Great to see you back Ed. Long time fan and student of your Walking Bass Lines books. How would you compare the L-1000 to the Kiloton? I have a friend that says the Kiloton is voiced more like a PBass. I have a hard time getting my head around them being so similar but producing different tones.
Please, don't disappear again. You have one of the most cool bass UA-cam channels.
Thanks. When I disappear, it means I'm making music, making people dance, and making money!

Hi Ed, dropping by to say hi and thanks from our new channel.

Get a grip on yourself man! ;) But seriously, thanks.
Ed, you’re the best reviewer. And not obnoxious like the other pretenders. And this GL bass sounds like a super p bass. Very nice 🤘🏼
Ed Friedland, the best bass reviewer out there in my opinion. An absolute legend and total badass.
that natural l1000 matches my l2000! g&l is my favorite leo company. such underutilized instruments.
The GnL makes me rethink my recent fender p bass purchase , such a versatile instrument . And looks so sweeeeeet
Life is full of choices. Choose BOTH!
Bass Whisperer TV N+1 is the answer. Thanks for the great content
Jump on sweat water and just buy one under the three payment plan!
A P bass is the best overall. Other basses are great and like icing on the cake but the P bass is the foundation especially if you’re studio recording a lot of songs
My main bass is my 1980 L-1000. Such incredible instruments, and I'm glad G&L has started making them again!
How do the old and the new compare tonally?
sounds amazing...I really like that they went back to the original head stock
As a reviewer, Ed is as good as it gets.

It's great having the bass whisperer back
So good to have you back! Keep 'em coming, man!
This was the video that made me pull the trigger on the L-1000. I got the gold Pharaoh Mist one and it has been a revelation. My favorite and best bass in my small collection!
I love mine! It's served me well on the road, and in the studio.
G&L bridges are the best. Love my L-2000. Never found another bass with the same versatility and playability at the price. Crazy.
The saddle lock bridge is amazing
THANK YOU for being a BASS player demoing BASS gear.
Welcome back Ed!!! Feels really good to hear you play
Thanks! Yeah, I've really got that one lick down now! ;)
It's so great to have you back, Ed!
I love this guy's technique, makes an awesome sound on whatever he plays. You know what? I recon one of those things would sound amazing with flat wound strings. Thanks for the video.
All basses sound better with flat wound
I have a L-2500 currently. I will be getting the this bass! I love the sound!!!!!
Killer review, Ed! Nice job highlighting the tonal differences in the woods. Probably one of the most distinctive comparisons I've seen.
I had one of those back in 1986. It had a wicked slaptone
Mmmm a bass that combines the best elements of a P-bass and a Stingray? Sign me up!
Nobody demonstrates gear like Uncle Ed. Welcome back!
those licks never get old! Good to see you back Ed!
I love this guy. I´m getting started with his Bass Method Book and I really like his Method.
Beautiful tone!
I know it wouldn't be in line with the original ones these are paying tribute to, but I would love a 5 string version!
Best comeback of 2019
Welcome back Ed! I remember purchasing my 3rd bass ever from watching your reviews years ago, thanks for quality demos!
I got a G&L Tribute L-2000 fantastic bass.
Great to see you back. Love your playing! 👍🏾
I had hopes when I saw the P bass Whisperer video some time back. Now I'm just gushing with excitement that it's happening!
Pretty dang Beefy, Ed. Glad you’re doing these again.
So good to have you back sir! Your playing didnt suffer from the youtube break, thats for dang sure :)
Always a pleasure to watch your videos.
Great review, all three of them sound great! I would say the scoopy-ness on the ash one comes from the maple board too. G&L makes great stuff.
Nice Ed, great to see you back in the BP realm. You definitely deliver the goods, they’re lucky to have you 🎶🙏🎶
welcome back Ed, you have been much missed. and looking as cool as ever
That first bass sounds GREAT. Very versatile tonal palette with one pickup.
Great to see your vids again!
Digging the OMG Tone.
Have loved my L1000 since 1982

Jacob Miranda decisions decisions. Mines been a rock. Good luck! 👍🏽
The ash model definitely lacks mids to my ears but that G&L bass has an interesting unique sound. Thanks for the review Ed !
I have a L1000 - best bass I have ever had - beats my Fender Jazz and P bass .. .thanks Leo . . .
You are clearly a master of your art. Love that Ash body in omg 💜
A great review as always. Having owned an original L1000 (#3) at one time I was prepared to fall in love with this bass, but the huge frets (.110 x .057 Jescar) put me off it. Having said that I may order one w/ different frets which is always an option w/ G&L.
OMG - no, not the pickup OMG - you are back! Love this bass - and the demo's.
Great review Ed! Thank you.
Nice to have you back
Great demos, Ed. G&L's are such fantastic instruments!
Glad you’re back.👏🏽
You're a very complete Bassist 👍🏾
Man, I've missed your videos so much.
This was awesome.

rcrieder BP?
He is back!!!! 🥳
Beautiful sound and with substance, we must take into account that the sound depends on a good instrument AND OUR HANDS TOO. JUST LIKE YOU DO. !
Great to see you back man! Best reviews series and best teacher out there : )
They also are basswood now as well
Great review (You have been missed Ed).
love OMG mode on my 80s mahogany L1000. my bread-and butter tone.
All very nice but I love the maple board! 😎👊🏼👍
Good stuff. As you said in a previous video, that slap tone is "nasty". 😁
Now i really want one of these!
Man! that Bass is SIC!!!
Great tone demo! Nice

Great to see you back!
Great review! Missed ya Ed!
Awsome bass! "Another winner!"
its him, it really is!!!!
You have best reviews in bass world, Ed, thank you for doing it ;)
Nice hat, btw XD
Dude, I just wanna say you are awesome!
Welcome back!
How does it compare to an l2000 played passively with the neck pickup soloed?
I haven't had the chance to do a direct comparison... but OMG on the 1K is different than Series Mode on the L2k... for one, you get some single coil hum with OMG... but it also has more low end, less midrange than Series.
I landed on this video and ultimately decided to subscribe to the channel. Thanks for the solid info.
Thanks for your videos Ed
OMG! Sounds Like John Paul Johns Jazz Bass coming threw his Acoustic Amp with a 30 speaker! I would just keep it in OMG Mode!
Mostly, I do! But Parallel has a great slap tone.
Interesting presentation on the basswood version... and yes I was surprised at how good it sounded. Good to see this review Ed.
jcmcclain57 The basswood model is currently on the road with me. It really thumps!
Bass Whisperer TV, Ed, that is a powerful testimony and especially considering the snobbery I have heard about basswood. Sounds awesome! Where did you have the bass control during the examples? Was it dimed?
I see they finally changed the headstock :-)
4:20 I LOVE THAT WALK!
Maybe I missed it - but which strings do you have on the first two basses? BTW love that Firemist Gold one.
This is the sound in my head
Nice demo. I want one of these! Prefer it to the L2000 from what Ive heard online.
Man! You're back! Subscribed!!!
ED, since you have one, would you please do a demo of the Genzler Magellen 800 amp head? Thanks
Welcome back Ed & thanks for another awesome vid. Did Leo Fender design some great gear or what? Love this bass!
This bass sound like an active bass. Excelent
Good to CU back
For slapping, the single coil sounds best - on my sound system at least. But hey - great review as always Ed
Hey Ed, aren’t these basses neck-heavy ? Or maybe the basswood ones, as they are supposed to be the lightest ... Thanx a million
How does this bass compare to the Kiloton? I realize the placement of the pickup is slightly different.
Man, I'm definitely not a slap guy but single coil slap mode sounds incredible.
WTF, how I glad to see you, man!
Ed are there some recordings with you and bass on with a band?
Great to see you back Ed. Long time fan and student of your Walking Bass Lines books. How would you compare the L-1000 to the Kiloton? I have a friend that says the Kiloton is voiced more like a PBass. I have a hard time getting my head around them being so similar but producing different tones.
Rattbones I haven’t tried the Kilo...
I’m from Tucson too!!!!!
G&L is the best. You get so much more for your money with them.
