The grief William Powell had over the loss of Jean, was very apparent...just as it was with Joe for dear Marilyn ❤

She broke a lot of hearts when she died. My grandmother named my mother after her, who later bestowed the name on me.

Seeing Powells photo here really breaks my heart. I know what it’s like to be so destroyed by a passing that you need the help of a loved one to simply walk and stand through it. Those you love take pieces of you with them and you mourn their death along with the death of who you were with them.

Always found it quite odd that they buried her in that dress from her last movie Saratoga - it’s pretty enough but I wonder why it was chosen over her own gowns? I read the dress was pink and Jean didn’t really like to wear pink in her day to day life, she wasn’t very fond of pink - anyway thanks for the video, never seen footage of Jeans funeral before

Learning of the film industry and movies i loved watching as a kid TV 📺 rabbit antenna 📡, came across at 12 in the school 🏫 library a set series that illustrated the history and the individual stars and directors, that pioneered the craft the art. Upon reading on Jean Harlow, i had yet seen any of her films, but hiw sad i thought so young at 26. Years later seen many of her films with much admiration of her part in the film industry. Salute Peace ✌️🕊️ Love 💕.

On her gravestone it says "Our baby".
That is what her mom always called her. "Baby".
Horrible when parents have to bury their child.

The newsreel footage at the beginning is not from Harlow’s funeral. The photos in the second half are. The film footage was pieced together for an old documentary adding random death footage to a genuine 1937 radio broadcast. Jean was not removed from Good Samaritan Hospital on a gurney (the footage looks later than 1937 too), that building is not Good Samaritan Hospital, she did not have a funeral procession through the streets of Los Angeles, the cars in the procession are from the 1920s, and the city behind them is not LA. I know you got this from a documentary or newsreel but it was not the genuine article for that particular production.

You're right about everything. Although the topic is sad, it was funny seeing the Model-T cars of the roaring twenties, supposedly in 1937. The part with the gurney seems like it was from a film.

I believe Jean Harlow's burial dress was pink even though she never wore pink herself. Nelson Eddy sang Sweet Mystery Of Life at the funeral because it was Harlow's favorite song. All the stars in these photos look truly upset and shaken. Harlow's personal secretary fainted when she saw Jean in the open casket. It was so shocking that a person so young and vibrant had passed. Never the less, Jean Harlow will always be remembered for her sparkling film performances.

I'm a Gen Xer, but William Powell is my all-time second favorite actor after Richard Burton. An amazing comic ability, the timing of a jazz musician, and an definite of gentility and grace. He and Myrna Loy in the "Thin Man" series, or Carol Lombard in "Our Man Godfrey" were great male/female comedy co-stars. Even though I grew up loving great, old, film classics, I wasn't expecting to actually laugh as much, or as heartily as I did. Highly recommended!

Isn't crazy to realize everyone of the people who were at her funeral and were standing out side, when they brought her body out including the gentlemen who escorted her body out are all gone now...even the thousands who gathered to take a look at her casket and funeral are all not with us anymore...shoot even the news writers who printed and announcement of her death are all dead now. Thats just mind blowing to think.
She was way too young to go, she had plenty of decades to left to do movies up until at least the 1970's and 1980's.
My she RIP in peace, I already know she is happy and at peace and doing good, and doing way better then all of us. She was more then just the first ever Hollywood Blonde Bombshell, she never really liked to be known as a Blonde Bombshell, or anything related to being a sex object....she wanted to be taken seriously, she loathed being known as a platinum Blond Bombshell, she knew she was blonde but didn't make a big fuss about it and thought that it Hindered her from being looked at as a serious actress.
I agree she was more then the first ever blonde Bombshell, she was a great actress and she was hilarious, she was extraordinary at one liners,
and she unaware comedic actress...she was legitimately funny, she was a great comedic actress...she was on the verge of an extraordinary career into comedy and more serious roles.
I wanna remember her for her talent and humor. Not her sex symbol image.
RIP Jean Harlow (born Harlean Harlow Carpenter; March 3, 1911 - June 7, 1937)

First of all, so-called "Jean Harlow" was not her real name. There was absolutely nothing wrong with her birth name Harlean Harlow Carpenter. Most likely the name change was as the result of pressure from a greedy Business Manager or Studio, with the idea of perceived greater recognition and possible monetary gain?! The business of changing one's birth name is the ultimate insult towards your parents & heritage. The ONLY time a name change should happen is when a woman gets married. If a married women DOESN'T change her last name, then that's an insult to her husband.

What an ignorant comment. She used her mother's name at an early audition she did before she was famous. She ended up keeping it and more than likely it was because she adored her mother. It was her decision. Shouldn't assume you know what you're talking about and then state it as a fact..
