    I love this flash unit. I purchased 2 of them about 4 years ago. A small compact flash unit that packs quite a punch! Very powerful and reliable for it's size!

    I got mine delivered 2 days ago, it took me a while to find out how the infra red function worked, but it works. Standard they turned it off and it was on pre-flash mode. I think I will get 2 more of those, on on the hot shoe for fill, and 2 for lighting the subject. The only thing I noticed is that it is a bit slower it seems with re-charching compared with my old 430-EX II flash.

      You're most welcome. It's not the most obvious feature, and the menu isn't that forthcoming with it. But it's cool that it's there. Happy shooting.

    Hey so what's the difference between the 430ex iii-rt and the 430ex iii? I've searched online but haven't found anything. Could use your help, thanks.

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  6 років тому

      As far as I can tell the one is just missing the RT by way of a typo. I don't think a mark 3 exists that doesn't have the remote triggering. So, they are the same, one's just displayed wrong.

    Thanks for this video. I just watched it now. Thinking of getting this 430 flash for my Canon M50 mirrorless camera. Question please: Does the 430 flash overheat and stop working as some reviewers have mentioned?

    Jokes where a bit random but showed personality. In terms of the information I found it very helpful. I would however like to know if you can control the power of off camera flash wirelessly from the on camera 430exiiirt for ettl. Can you also change the power of each group etc

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  7 років тому +2

      I'm glad you enjoyed the video. You can change the power of each group from the master. I feel like that's only for Manual though, I'd have to check, but I didn't think you could change the power when in ETTL, because that's kind of an automatic mode.

    I'm really confused between 430 and 600 model. Is 430 enough for outdoor portrait, landscape... How far the light these two model can be. Thanks.

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  7 років тому +1

      Hi. The 430 is about 70% as powerful as the 600. Both will work for outdoor assuming that your subject isn't too far away. The guide number for the 430ex is 141-feet or 43 metres, and it's 197 feet or 60 metres for the 600.

    Can you please share a link to the best rechargeable batteries I can buy for this flash? Thanks

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  8 років тому +1

      Absolutely. Here they are on Amazon: amzn.to/2diehGr
      Or, if you prefer B&H Photo: bit.ly/2bmmo5h
      Hope that helps. These are absolutely the best flash batteries you can buy in my opinion.

  • @miguelslm
    @miguelslm 7 років тому +1

    thank you gerald. question:
    with the 430ex iii rt mounted on camera, and a pair of 600 rt can you change the values (zoom, power, etc)on the 600's within the 430? I own a 6d. thank you again!

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  7 років тому

      Hi, Mike. Thanks for your question.
      When using that combination, most of the settings will be taken directly from the master (430 in your case) such as high speed sync, zoom, mode, etc. The power is either mirrored or you can dial it in with the group settings. You set the 600s to group B for instance, then on the 430 set group B to 1/4 power or 1/2 power. You can also set each speedlite to it's own group, each with it's own power ratio. But yes, this is all controlled from the 430, once you have the 600s on, assigned to a group, and set to radio slave.
      Hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions.

    • @miguelslm
      @miguelslm 7 років тому +1

      sweet! I´m on a budget so I´ll try canon 430 ex iii rt + yongnuo 600 ex-rt, so I assume the same applies (?)
      *another question Is it true you can control the flashes through the 5d3´s menu?

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  7 років тому +1

      Awesome. I've never used Yongnuo gear, but I've heard they operate essentially the same. There are menu options on modern Canon's, yes. But they aren't as in-depth as on the flash itself.

    What lens is on your camera (not the video, the one you're using speedlites on, just to clarify)?

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  7 років тому +1

      That was a Canon EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens: amzn.to/2kDc0dp, but I also run a Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM: amzn.to/2kcJG0R when using speedlites.

    • @jcommerce
      @jcommerce 7 років тому +1

      Classic! Those are the exact same lenses I have. I'm taking the 430, those lenses, and the EF 100-400mm f/4 IS II USM to Africa next week! (using EOS 5D Mark IV) Thanks for the quick reply...Cheers!

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  7 років тому

      Awesome! Well, have a great trip. My partner, Julie, did a photo trek to Africa. We don't have the 100-400, but we do have the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 sport. Although, I don't think we've ever used Speedlites on that! :)

    Got a question, i got a 5d mk3 and a 430ex III...if i want to use the flash off camera using RT whats the cheapest option ? dont wanna spend another $300.

    • @geraldundone
      @geraldundone  7 років тому +1

      Hi. This is the cheapest Canon option: amzn.to/2rM9Ecx, it's just the transmitter, but if you consider the price of it vs the price of another 430, it doesn't make much sense in my opinion. I say the same thing in the video pretty much.
      There is a 3rd party version by Yongnuo, which is much cheaper. I've heard good things, but never used one myself. Here's the link for that one: amzn.to/2rwV6jM. Hope that helps.

    • @mactopia1
      @mactopia1 7 років тому

      I recommend another brand - Phottix. Their Laso Transmitter (has a Receiver as well) should do your job too. It has great compatibility with all radio-triggered Canon flashes, and supports E-TTL/E-TTL-II, Manual mode, Multi, Ext. A etc. This is the mid-range product line, the top being the Odin and the budget one being the Ares II.
      If you live in the States then you can get it off Amazon as well. It's founded in Hong Kong but partnered with Europeans in production.

      Great video, to clarify does that mean you can also pair two 430ex III? One functioning as a master and another as a slave using the RT mode?

    • @geraldundone

      This is a comedy channel. It says that in the description of the video. You could have just moved on to the "more sensible" review without leaving your little notes of disapproval. It's too bad too, because I cover a lot of important details about this flash, but you'll never know. This channel is for people who are capable of being silly once in a while.

      Dave Munn - Goodness Dave. With all of the bad things that happen in the world, you're stressing THAT? I'd hate to see you in a high pressure situation. I bet you'd break in a second. I feel bad for your family, friends or clients if that's how short your patience runs. Longevity isn't guaranteed in life brother. What good is photography (or any other craft for that matter), if you can't have fun doing it? I hope he never changes his style of making videos. If he does, he'll be just like everyone else. It's not like it's overkill.
      - I liked, I subscribed - new fan of this channel. So yeah, lol.
