    Thank you! I had horrible anxiety and personality changes. I was diagnosed with Graves, and once my thyroid levels got back on track with the help of Methimazole, I began to feel much, much better, and those emotional symptoms went away. However, in the process, I lost some family members. I feel this illness is not understood by others, and I discovered so many people can be so judgemental of you because of something they don't understand

      @@Vixinaful I got well, but just after I had two life changing events that changed the course of my life entirely. I walked away from my abusive family - mother, father and sister and I haven't looked back. It wasn't a mistake, I had to get away from those people. Watching videos on narcissism cured my of the emotional heartache. I was an engineer during 9-11. Rather than embrace pancake theory, I left, deciding to stay sane rather than force myself to believe untruths. No one escapes truth by ignorance. I've been speaking against the pedophiles, drug dealing and human sacrificing satanists. I educated myself and read tons of old pre-communist takeover books and I learned the sick world I describe in the last sentence is absolutely real. Read GK Chesterton or CS Lewis. I had grave's disease since the age of 14 (during my development) until the age of 27. Horribles memories, frightening actions, lots of regrets, psychosis that last many years, wrong diagnosis, i was arrested, hospitalized in psychiatry etc... I'm focusing currently on the PTSD that my past has created. A terrible life suffered at the hand of this disease. Even if I was treated 4 years ago, I still feel incredibly bad today. Best wishes!

    Just recently diagnosed but I've been struggling with mental issues for years now. Nobody suggested thyroid when I started freaking out and going to different counselors and doctors. I think now after tons of research and looking back that I may sometimes have been misattributing beliefs and fears related to my thoughts because the adrenaline/panic physical feelings would happen and I thought one caused the other but now I will be totally relaxed and at peace mentally but have sudden heart rate and adrenaline spikes for no reason so I can stop myself from freaking out mentally because I can separate the physical sensation from any psychological cause - if that makes sense. Having said that though, I am solitary now so I don't have confusion or drama from people and situations anymore and I'm not working so my stress from external causes is reduced from the beginning of my mental and physical problems. It was so bad in 2015 I couldn't function at all, wasn't sleeping, crying or angry all the time, lost weight and lost most of the people in my life related to my state. I had so many blood tests in seven years and was prescribed a few different meds for anxiety and depression but it was never suggested that I might have a thyroid thing until recently I asked about my throat specifically and unrelated. That's an issue I think systemically. It would have made sense to test me for that because it's a physical thing. I'm actually shocked at how many different doctors I saw over this time typing to get help. I just have to forgive it no matter what happens to me now because I can see how complicated all this is. Very thankful for this video.

    This is a great video. I have received a diagnosis of Graves’ a month ago and just starting to feel better on the medication. But when I look back I think I may have had periods of thyrotoxicosis for more than 15 years. I didn’t realise stress could set it off and assumed I was just not able to cope with some major life events. It wasn’t until I had a baby for a friend (surrogacy) this year and the Graves’ set off that I got diagnosed. With other pregnancies I assumed it was the sleep deprivation and having three toddlers under 3 that was the reason I couldn’t sleep, was skinny and feeling crazy and irritable. I am so thankful to be receiving treatment, but feel the longevity of my anxiety makes me fear it is now part of my brain chemistry and I may struggle for the rest of my life :-(

    My wife suffers from this and I'm broken. She is good about taking meds but if her hormones are off or if I don't do exactly what she needs my life can be turn upside down..I haven't been a perfect husband but I have been there for her. I'm there supporting her while going even bankrupt trying to help. I hate going home..I hate off weekends..i hate to take days off when she is at that time. I see why at this point how those who have to deal with this succumb to leaving or worse things..I love her so much but I can't stand her like I use to. I avoid her more now because if we fight because of her irrational behavior I'm not going to find her to work it out because it turns out that it's my fault. I feel so sorry for her....injust don't know what to do. I'm not a guy you can yell at or try to talk down to - I just dish it right back..and I hate that about myself so I try to stay away from her at some points. Today I haven't even spoken to her because of this..im walking around Target at night and I hate coming to stores.

I live in a remote town in British Columbia....It took OVER A YEAR to be diagnosed properly - that said I have to travel to have tests done- which is very expensive- so I know how the people in the states must feel. This disease is not fun, When it first hit, I was sooo messed up and no clue as to why. I would wake up in random places but, never remembered falling down- or asleep. I lost 8.5 pounds in 2 days. Being in Fort Nelson BC makes it hard to get the proper help, I just take it day by day!

    2) My symptoms began in highschool, but was neglected by HMO for years with multiple issues until a full blown thyroid storm. It would be ideal for helpful for such subtle diseases to be made known to freshman students along with A&P. What good is math and English if your health is falling apart.

    If I received the iodine uptake dies that mean that the radioactive material in it is going to kill my thyroid?! No one explained it to me. I specifically said I don't want to kill my thyroid! I was also told not to do iodine before thyroid meds ? My TSH was 0.02 my T3 & T4 were 341 and 4.71. I'm extremely unregulated and I need surgery on my small intestine but the Dr said no way with severe hyperthyroidism and Graves unregulated it most likely will cause cardiac arrest from the anesthesia? I need help

    • @GravesAndThyroid
      @GravesAndThyroid  3 роки тому +1

      Hello - This is an issue that your endocrinologist & gastroenterologist should discuss in order to determine how urgent the surgery on your small intestine is. The preference is to *not* do surgery while a patient is currently hyperthyroid - but obviously, if it's a life-threatening situation, that changes the calculus. The Radioactive Iodine Uptake & Scan does *not* destroy the thyroid - it just provides a picture of how the thyroid is taking up iodine. Not sure if you are asking about iodine supplements or something else - iodine supplements are *not* recommended if you are hyperthyroid, as they can make your condition worse.

    I'm a male in my late thirties. Just found out my TSH levels are low and T4 is high (About 29, don't remember the unit of measurement. It should be below 20 something). I'm not yet diagnosed with Graves' but I've had many of these symptoms for a long time. Very tired, sleeping problems, mood swings, anxiety, sweating, itches, and what not. Curiously, I have actually periodically gained a lot of weight. It's a bit harder for me to recognize the emotional symptoms since I have a long record of severe depression (since my youth). Still, it makes me wonder whether some of my mental problems might be due to hyperthyroidism. I hope it's not Graves', because that really sounds like a life sentence to me. Especially with my background. I have been fighting depression for such a long time, and now to consider that I have an another long fight (perhaps life-long) against Graves' just makes me so frustrated. Well, what can I do...

      Hello - The good news is that most Graves' patients respond well to treatment.
