Most illuminati Disney game I have ever played I completely understand the weird vibes you get from this game! Me and my older brother feel the same! Glad we're not the only one.
I wonder how anyone could think "So in this game, Donald Duck is a detective searching for a mystical artifact on a tropical island... Let's also make him a ninja! A ninja named... Cold Shadow!" Actually, no. This is a 90's game, after all. 😅
My friends and I were obsessed with this game. We played for hours and had a stack of papers with pass codes written on them. Oh the failures and triumphs we went thru playing this.
Composed by the same guy who did a bunch of recent Disney stuff (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up), as well as the newer Star Trek movies. Talented guy, to say the least.
I'd say the title theme is also inspired by David Wise's DKC jungle theme, and stage 1 has some Toy Story similarities, along with some Scott Joplin thrown in for good measure (pun not intended). 🎶🎵
One of the most beautiful video game soundtracks ever composed. The Ninja Training Grounds music is just jaw-dropping. Michael Giacchino would later go on to win an Oscar for composing the soundtrack for the movie "Up".
Fun Fact: This game used to drive me nuts with deja-Vu that I was playing Earthworm Jim when it came out, because the jumping, gun, and sound effects are so identical.. I'd play my Genesis Earthworm Jim next to it to prove to my friends I wasn't going nuts.. Years later I found out that Eurocom developed Earthworm Jim for the Gameboy/Gamegear, and also helped Shiny on the original Earthworm Jim.. Mystery solved, lol. One of THE best Disney games that I suggest people play.. Awesome music too...
Does anyone understand the point to this game? The theme was so dark...I felt like Donald had to sell his soul to become a true hero and then it has a normal Disney ending. Mindblown.
This game was made by the developer of Earthworm Jim. It has graphics similar to Earthworm Jim, its dark humor is similar to that of Earthworm Jim, It controls kind of like Earthworm Jim... So, yeah, it might actually be a reskinned Earthworm Jim game!
The game is not a reskin of Earthworm Jim and the Developers aren‘t the same. Check out ‚The Making of Aladdin / Cel animation in video games‘ by the Channel Strafefox.
I had this game on Sega Megadrive when I was a kid. I think it was a summer time present after completing class. This game was very fun & took some time before I manage to complete it. Thanks for playing this game. :)
I never realized this before but this game has A LOT of parallels with Earthworm Jim, the gameplay and the general stage theming... It even has a Bungie Jumping level. I wonder if there was any artists that worked on that game working on this one.
one of the prime examples of children targetted games that where actually dark af...same goes for yoshis island... the contrast just made these games so ridiculously interesting.... god i miss the good ol times man the contrast haha just look at 56:15 donald beeing pushed by a deadly lavastream... chilled steeldrum music in the background. you gotta love this stuff
Its been 10 or 11 years since I last time played this game. It brings back so many memories. Never passed it though, had to let my brother to complete it.
I recently played this and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a solid platformer, and has a great score. The music in the underwater level is quite mesmerizing in particular. The controls are a bit floaty, but it’s not much of a hindrance since the game isn’t too challenging aside from a couple of instances.
In the realm of the dead, you were supposed to battle that huge eye in the background as a boss battle, with it sending white goo balls that bleed when shot and with collapsing platforms. I remember I saw that in previews on gaming magazines (I'll try to scan it whenever I find it). Maybe they cut it because Disney deemed it too violent?
Possibly the only video-game ever in which a staff was used as a weapon instead of just a giant magic wand... also a huge part of my childhood, but I had it on PC and could never figure out how to play it...
Eurocom also did Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds for the PlayStation 2/XBOX game systems, Disney Universe for the PS3 and Tarzan for the PlayStation. Unfortunately for Eurocom, they closed down their office.
And since childhood, this game never answered a vital question, that would go in history as one of the unsolved misteries of mankind... Who the f*ck is Maui Mallard?
You know how the Muddrakes shout "THERE HE IS!" throughout level 5; well, when I first played that level as a child, I thought they were shouting "IDIOT!"
Let's hope so. I'm extremely annoyed that Scrooge, Beakley, Webby, and (hinted) Della supposedly have background backstorues as spies/secret agents while they haven't even touched on any of Donald's numerous alter-egos yet. 😑
+Dror Bartal Its not bad, in fact its still pretty good. Thing is, because of the game being a lot faster on the Snes, its a lot more difficult that way unlike in the Mega drive version where it was at a good pace, this game is a bit too fast at times in certain levels, like the Sacrifice level being a pain...
The scrolling when you face left/right isn't as harsh on Genesis, probably due to its wider screen resolution allowing for a better field of view than on SNES. The pacing of gameplay does seem more even but I don't think it's that bad on SNES. But for sure the developer did a very bad job with graphics/music on the Genesis version. They used the GEMS sound engine which is notorious among SEGA fans for producing pretty lousy music, and even then only did a mediocre job with it.
I first heard of this game in Toys R Us when their video game section was more interactive. They had this monitor and panel in which if you press on one of the game titles, you see a 30 second promo of the game. I saw the clip of Cold Shadow, and after that, I never heard of anything of this game again. I thought the game got cancelled. The duck was promoted in the game as Donald Duck, but I heard Donald was never referenced in this game at all. I wonder why.
That's because Donald essentially "stars" in this game as Maui Mallard, kind of like actors star in movies. In a way Maui Mallard was his alter ego, but at the same time it was a way of putting Donald's character into a different concept and environment.
Dustie1984 You hit the nail on the head. It was pretty popular for cartoons back in the day to continuously break the fourth wall. Consequently, they also 'starred' on series as to excuse the fact that they are filling out completely different roles from their original ones (e.g. Duck Dodgers). This whole practice essentially keeps the fantasy alive and the viewers believing that these are real.
Yes, it is Donald. And yeah...Donald has a dark side. He's fought in WWII in the Army, after all and once tried to shoot his brains out when he thought he got sawed in half.
Omg I remember my dad brought the CD to this game but it was for windows 95. 😭 and we had windows XP. So, I installed windows 95, just to play this game haha. I loved playing this game. It was just really unique for the little me.
One of the best platformers i've played Makes for a totally new, dark lore for Donald, who is not even donald (i think the game is suppossed to be a movie filming) Every world has a very unique, exotic and mystical aura The music is absolutely insane, I never forgot any of the tracks. You can be a ninja. It has very different and original level designs (get into the stone "mecha", fight the ninjas, the bungee stage of the jungle)...
I watched the preview of this game on some Nintendo demo VHS along with the other Super Nintendo games (The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Killer Instinct, Pilotwings, etc)
The controls have a noticeable delay on this game that makes it harder than it should be. I even played it on a crt television and it still felt like it had input lag. It made accurate jumping much more difficult.
The gameplay always seemed kinda forgettable to me. But the soundtrack is amazing and still keeps popping into my head once in a while after all these years!
Why are the levels different from my version..? The dark area is new for me in the mansion, the bonus level is different, the piano in the mansion is different. The ninja points are a timer for your ninja form in my version. And my version doesn't keep track of the treasure percentage.
I love how the box said that there's about 40 hours of gameplay that's sure to keep you going, yet this game can be done in 2 hours. xD Not joking either, look it up! All the same, found this for $15, and I fuckin' LOVE it! It's tied with Aladdin for favourite Disney SNES game!
this would have ranked as the best snes disney game for me (i was always hoping for something to compete with castle of illusion or aladdin on genesis), except for the the way the screen jerks back and forth while moving (why, it made me sickish after a night). what a beautiful game. a blockbuster rental is all i got into my head aboot it.
such a underrated game
I remembered playing this game when I was a kid.
*Such *an *game.
Very popular here in Brazil
this game used to creep me out back in the day...has a kind of dark atmosphere
Most illuminati Disney game I have ever played I completely understand the weird vibes you get from this game! Me and my older brother feel the same! Glad we're not the only one.
Jörg-Detlef Rockefeller
Came from the same mindset as Nightmare Ned.
Ha gayyyyyyyhyy
36:06 Too heavy message for a kid's game
"Y'know... for kids!"
I wonder how anyone could think "So in this game, Donald Duck is a detective searching for a mystical artifact on a tropical island... Let's also make him a ninja! A ninja named... Cold Shadow!"
Actually, no. This is a 90's game, after all. 😅
Ah, the 90’s. The quintessential Weird Era, and the best time to grow up. *I* think so, anyway.
Sounds very normal to me
It was a rare case of a western developer using that thing called imagination, and having a wild idea that worked.
this game is kinda weird and exotic. The jazz music rocks and it needs skilled hands. It as a special placein my memory.
At first I thought you said this game was erotic, I had to do a double take lol
My friends and I were obsessed with this game. We played for hours and had a stack of papers with pass codes written on them. Oh the failures and triumphs we went thru playing this.
Brings back so many memories.
Perhaps the most underrated SNES game. Loved it back in the day and has one of the best soundtracks in a game
This game has the best soundtrack ever! The main menu track and the ninja grounds track are unforgetable!
Composed by the same guy who did a bunch of recent Disney stuff (The Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up), as well as the newer Star Trek movies. Talented guy, to say the least.
@@SNESpool “letting go” from the film super 8
I loved everything about this game, especially the soundtrack! Only because of this game I kind of regret having sold my snes.
The Flying Duckman definitely was one of the most atmospheric levels of the Super Nintendo era. Also this game has an absolute kick ass soundtrack :D
Wait did they just predict Spongebob
I find the music was too depressing
@@tammid8423no one gives a fuck.
Nostalgic I remember every Saturday morning I would wake up with a bowl of cereal playing this for hours boy how I miss the 90s
The music in this game was composed by Michael Giacchino
He’s the film composer of Star Wars: Rogue One (2016).
For "The Flying Duckman", someone says that he get ispiration from Donkey Kong Country 2's Galleon Stage theme.
Michael Giacchino would later go on to win an Oscar for composing the soundtrack for the movie "Up".
this game has an earthworm jim feel to it
+Estlib Anon
I agree.
But with better camera scrolling
was thinking the same xD
Man, that OST is still amazing even after two decades. It's such a nonstop procession of catchy tunes.
Unforgettable soundtrack and game. Wish I can play it again along with every other SNES game
SNES emulators exist ^^
Fun Fact: This game used to drive me nuts with deja-Vu that I was playing Earthworm Jim when it came out, because the jumping, gun, and sound effects are so identical.. the music is so beautiful on snes version
I love the soundtrack for this game
Same
Always loved the soundtrack in this
I'd love to see a remake or another adventure with Maui Mallard on the Wii.
I would love to see a movie based off of this game.
Does anyone understand the point to this game? The theme was so dark...I felt like Donald had to sell his soul to become a true hero and then it has a normal Disney ending. Mindblown.

I hate that they never made a sequel or any other games that stared Maui
I guess because people confused it with donald duck?
@@Xorrak He IS Donald Duck. It's Donald Duck acting as a detective named Maui Mallard with an alter-ego of a ninja: Cold Shadow
Aw shit.. See? Already confused
No it's just Donald playing a characyer
It reminds me of my childhood playing Cold Shadow on my uncle’s Super Nintendo. It was such a good time! I wish I could bring it back again!
Obrigado pelo vídeo, esse jogo com certeza marcou minha infância! Nostalgia sem limites kk
Wellington Orthey Nem fala, e essa trilha sonora do ninja training grounds ? Épica
This is the best Donald Duck games so far. Best outfit, smooth animation, exotic design, good music, detailed graphics
Is it me.......? Or the water stage on this game sounds similar to water stage on Donkey Kong?
Awesome, I LOVED this game! Been waiting ages for a decent longplay of it
The Muddrakes with the buzzsaw yo-yos is straight out of an old James Bond movie.
the Snes version of this game is unbelivable... I had the MD one back in the days
these were games that actually required skill!
I had this game on Sega Megadrive when I was a kid.
I think it was a summer time present after completing class.
This game was very fun & took some time before I manage to complete it.
Thanks for playing this game.
:)
"Oh, If only you were still with us, I would take you on an adventure you would never forget."

Clássico, merecia um remake. Joguei bastante na adolescência. RIP SNES guerreiro.
Donald Duck... as Magnum PI... as ninja master... LOVE the concept and this game!
Thanks! I remembered me playing this game as kid in 2006-2007 on a real SNES, loved this game!
then you never had a real childhood with this game
Its been 10 or 11 years since I last time played this game. It brings back so many memories. Never passed it though, had to let my brother to complete it.
Gioco Bellissimo…Fantastica colonna sonora! Dopo 25 anni ancora mi gasa di brutto…quanti bei ricordi😌
good old times! the music was amazing xD
Hearing the soundtrack again is wild ,no wonder I remember this game.
I just needed confirmation this game was real, thought Donald Duck throwing flaming ninja stars was a childhood fever dream
This game = Donald Duck's Mickey Mania
Still have it and enjoy it like the first day! Thanks, man!
The frog devouring the Muddrakes has to be to most gruelsome and darkest scene ever.
Games usually staring Donald Duck are usually good. Goin' Quackers, QuackShot, etc.
Because he's badass! 😁
I recently played this and was pleasantly surprised. It’s a solid platformer, and has a great score. The music in the underwater level is quite mesmerizing in particular. The controls are a bit floaty, but it’s not much of a hindrance since the game isn’t too challenging aside from a couple of instances.
This game physics is awesome
Maui Mallard seems like a kool dude
It's actually Donald Duck who plays the a character of Maui Mallard and has a ninja alter-ego.
The fact that the guy behind the music ended up doing music for Disney & Marvel movies is amazing
I was watching this game on accident...and I was hooked. The whole Maui cold character is kinda interesting.

Donald is Maui Mallard and also Cold Shadow
Zero The Bloodedge
Donald is playing the character of Maui.

When I finished that game i said: "All that deadly quest and the Idol was a fridge". Anyway an underrated and great game.
Nos anos 90 jogava muito este game!!! Parabéns pela game play.
Este juego es exquisito musicalmente y jugable 💕

Wondering if this game will get somehow adapted on the new Duck Tales reboot.

Donald's 90's italian iteration of comics are as dark as that. Its him moving to HQ/adult comic/superhero comic universe

Yes, it is Donald. And yeah...Donald has a dark side. He's fought in WWII in the Army, after all and once tried to shoot his brains out when he thought he got sawed in half.

I member this 🥺. Makes me sad tho. 😢😢. Best childhood memories. Plus now i remember why i am a big fan of donald

Los juegos de Disney en SNES tenian una gran calidad. Pero este no lo había visto nunca.
this game was amazing 👏🏼 definitely ahead of the time
Amazing super nintendo games
After almost a decade a remember this hame.
I loved this game, still have it... But I always found it too easy. I remember getting it for my birthday and completing it within an hour or so.
Okay, game, what the he-ck?! Who in their right mind yo-yos with a buzz saw?!
The frog bossfight is the most disturbing ever for Disney standards.
31:55 the stage i couldnt pass no matter what....nostalgia!
The controls have a noticeable delay on this game that makes it harder than it should be. I even played it on a crt television and it still felt like it had input lag. It made accurate jumping much more difficult.
What was that water in 1:25:55?
I had a demo of this Ive always wanted the full game im thinking of downloading it

All the same, found this for $15, and I fuckin' LOVE it! It's tied with Aladdin for favourite Disney SNES game!
Yeah there's 40 hours of gameplay if you play the game 20 times.
this would have ranked as the best snes disney game for me (i was always hoping for something to compete with castle of illusion or aladdin on genesis), except for the the way the screen jerks back and forth while moving (why, it made me sickish after a night). what a beautiful game. a blockbuster rental is all i got into my head aboot it.
I loved this game
best game evr
I played this yesterday on my megadrive, its a very good game, but the SNES version look stunning
This is basically like earthworm jim but with Donald duck
I remember playing this game when I was a little boy. I was really good at it.
What's his ninja weapon - nunchucks, a staff, or both?
It's a Bo Staff
