@@NintendoCompleteThat was one of my favourite moments that I ever experienced playing the NES - when that song starts and the “Dragon Twins” appear right before the final boss. River City Ransom is the best.
This port is a classic. It may not be as close to the Arcade original as the Master System version was and the lack of a co-operative mode is admittedly lame, but the excellent soundtrack and the surprisingly in-depth combat + level up system more than make up for it.
I recently found out they also made super dodgeball, which explains why the characters look similar. Will in double dragon looks like Sam in super dodgeball, Rowper looks like Mike, and Abobo looks like several characters including one named Boris.
@@drl5002 Those games, in addition to River City Ransom, Nintendo World Cup Soccer and a few others, were Americanized Kunio-kun games. Heck, there was a Kunio Game Boy game that got changed into a Double Dragon game for the English release.

@knuclear200x true enough lol, but I would go, yeah? So what? You can't do it, can you? This was a common enough thing with my friends growing up, and especially my cousin, it would irritate him to no end and I loved every second of it.
@@classicgunstoday1972 could be, or it could be a reference to the showdown between Sarah Connor and the Terminator in OG Terminator in '84 as well in the hydraulic press.
Lol I wish the headbutt be as powerful as the back elbow. I had fun playing around the combinations. Punch punch head butt. To this day very difficult to complete this game in their face legimate without some sort of running away.
Classic. Great nusic...good gameplsy (minus the platforming). As a kid i thought the series was an NES original...wasnt aware of the arcade games..never even saw them in the wild. Only arcade version i saw was the NES playchoice 5 one. I would argue the NES porte of DD 1/2 are better than their arcade counterparts
This music kicks so much ass! Also, I love the plot being simple. Thugs snatch your girl, and you start going on a rampage and kick all of their asses to win her back. I love it!
There's a bug at 5:00 where if you go back up the ladder, walk to the left, then back right, then bad guy will have disappeared. Then if you punch or kick where he was, you still get XP. You can max your character and get infinite lives doing this.
As kids back in the 80s, we didn’t care about dumbed-down arcade ports. We just wanted to beat bad guys to a pulp, and have fun doing so. SO many memories of this classic brawler. 🥹
I just watched your original playthrough vid of Double Dragon last night, and I must say that the gameplay and showcasing of everything is a good deal improved from the last one. 😄 I gotta ask, though: why didn't you ever have Billy do his Pin attack in your old vid like you did in this one?
At 6:16. You know you don't have to fight that guy, right? After he shows up, you can climb down the first two ladders and that ends the mission. It's an old-school trick.
A.K.A The game that had a fan make the muscle man his own game titled "Abobo's Big Adventure". (But for the love of god do not play it. Seriously. I already have enough trauma from that game's Contra level. I don't want to relive it again.)
Poor Marian. It can't be fun being gut punched out of nowhere and carried off like that, slung over someone's shoulder.
Poor Abobo than receive kicks in his balls.
Doesn't she just get straight up merc'd in the next game? 😬
Or outright murdered like both in the arcade game and the NES version.
Only difference is that she's resurrected in the NES version.
Thoughts on the upcoming remake?
Don't knock it 'til you've tried it 💥
I really love the music in this version of Double Dragon....
That first stage theme is living rent free in my head.
Very nostalgic
I loved how they used the main theme for the build-up to the last boss fight in River City Ransom.
@@NintendoCompleteThat was one of my favourite moments that I ever experienced playing the NES - when that song starts and the “Dragon Twins” appear right before the final boss. River City Ransom is the best.
@@Dorian_Scottthe arcade version was better IMO
I never beat this game but the music is so iconic
Let me guess: the damn wall in Mission 5
Always forget about that bizarre two player versus mode. Six characters to pick from but you can only play mirror matches!
I’ve said this before, but if this game would have been 2-players it would have been one of the best NES games.
Agreed
As has been established with a few other games like Bad Dudes and POW: Prisoners of War
It was one of the best games
110% agreed!
I won’t argue with that. River City Ransom scratched that itch a little later.
I remember beating this game only once. I spammed elbows on the machine gun guy and the final boss. So amazing when I finally won. Classic beat-em-up.
Was re-watching old playthroughs of this
This game has been therapeutic for me since 1987. Long live DD!
Not a damn person in this game can keep their hands up. Dudes throwing reverse punches straight from the hip and EVERYONES getting head shots
The happy times I remember playing this on the game boy back in the day
Incredible, I was thinking of Doulbe Dragon earlier today, probably around about the time you posted this video.
You got 50,000 in double dragon?! No way! This brings me waaay back.
California!
Dangit! You beat me to the reference.
_I love the Power Glove! It's so bad!_
😂🤣😂🤣
There's a good reason this is the version that gets included in all of those compilations and not the Master System version.
Master system is more sorta accurate to the arcade and has 2 player co op. And none of the level up move gameplay changes
@@dz4265 Arcade accuracy doesn't matter much when you mess up the basics though. Hit detection being key among them.
@@SomeOrangeCatyeah that hit detection is way of in double dragon for sms. And why does jimmy have blue hair?🤔😂
There are now rom hacks of this game where you can play as Tyris Flare, The Mask, or even ED-209! Times have changed! 😅
And yes I heard about them they really Fuck Shadow Warriors Up real clean by ED-209 😂😅

Definitely. I prefer how this plays to the Master System game.
@@NintendoComplete Same. The Master System port had really poor hit detection.
Its like a rpg beat em up. Then mighty final fights does it later. The Target Renegade game reuses the blue brother sprite.
Taking into consideration that this was Technos Japan's SECOND EVER NES GAME (Renegade was released first), this was a good effort.

Linda
