I just wished that car makers that give their cars the ''hatchbacky'' look, actually made them a hatch/lift back. So much more practical!
I thought that about the new accord when it came out a few years ago. I totally thought it was gonna be a liftback by the way it looked..
Kia Stinger
Like in Acura integra? This car looks like it would fit that trunk style nice
It is harder to design. Around the larger hatch opening and maintain structural stiffness

“Optima” was the codename for the K5 in the US. K5 and Optima have always been the same car. In Korea has always been the K5.
Danny...Actually the Optima became the K5 in 2010 in Korea. We had one model run of the Optima before that.
The K5 is going to be called Optima in Europe still
@@SuperPhelix Makes sense, I guess, since most European cars use numbers instead of names. Good way to distinguish.
@@johnholst I just think it makes sense to keep the Optima brand as the market for normal human sized cars is still alive and well, except for the obvious downturn due to the pandemic of course.
K5 was called optima long ago in korea, but kia now has the full sedan lineup from k3 to k9
Fun fact, the Optimas have always been called K5 in Korea.

That makes sense. The 2013 Ford Fusion was a very handsome car, but it's all over the road now and nobody is gonna turn their head towards a Fusion, unlike a Mustang. The K5 will be like that in a few years once it starts to sell.

I hope they do too, I feel like they get more hate than they deserve.
The hate is because real car enthusiasts know what’s under all this cool aesthetics, cheap materials and quality. The Optima has always been called the K5 in Korea.
At least, after 2010. There was the original Optima, then the Lotze, and then the K5 (along with, of course, the K3, K7, and K9).
I've spent my entire life hating on Kia for being a poverty-tier econo-shitbox, and now I can't decide between a Telluride, a K5, or a Stinger, even over some offerings from more historically-substantial brands. Good on Kia - They are absolutely killing it right now!

Just make sure you avoid the feature that I didn't know I was getting with my Optima; a ton of recalls with the best being the one where the engine can literally blow itself apart at any time, possibly causing a fire. "Acceleration: 1 out of 10"
Do slow cars get negative number scores for acceleration?
Doug's scale is so heavily weighted to super cars that anything with a 0-60 more than 6 seconds is like a 1 or 2.
He made a video where he drove a Yugo once, and yet he indeed still gives to reasonably fast cars a 1 in acceleration. Pretty ridiculous, and it ruins the purpose and relevance of his whole "Doug score" thing.
In this dougscore system, any car with more than 5 sec 0-60 gets a 1 lol. Even most 2000s supercars would get 1 or 2 in acceleration. The entirety of the score is divided between 0-60 in 2-4 seconds..
I wish Doug would have individual score systems for the various segments he reviews. In that sense, all supercars/performance cars would be rated from one type of scoring, and SUVs would get their own separate scoring system, etc. Would make a lot more sense.
@@damienhh288 At least it could reach 60mph... remember the BMW Isetta? ^^
It’s an objective scale that ignores a car’s class, and intentionally so. 0-60 in >7 seconds is a 1, 6.5-7 is a 2, etc. This means a car with a 5 second 0-60 is not a one, but a five or a six.

Kia cars have really cool designs respect to the prices
Doug: the type of guy to like his keys to feel like a detonator.
How has KIA become one of my favorite car manufacturers?! They are doing everything right
By copying and mixing the styling from Audi, BMW and Mercedes
Mathias Bacher - The Kia Soul has sold over 1 million units in the U.S alone. Nobody looks at that car and says it copied and mixed Audi, BMW & Mercedes styling. And what you refer to as copying and mixing is actually what all car designers follow and those are called trends. Notice how a lot of new cars all have the full light bars going across their trunks right now? It’s not called copying and mixing it’s called following the trend. Copying in the bad sense is what Lincoln did with their Continental (Bentley Flying Spur), Chrysler did with their 300 grill (Rolls) and what Ford did with their Explorer (Range Rover) as those looked like literal attempted knock-offs. Kia’s success is legit.
@@bhongtastic It is legit and they didn't straight up copy it, I agree to that. But there aren't a lot of new ideas in this car, most of the "new" features were already developed by the three car brands I mentioned and the styling especially in the interior is very very similar to those. Look at the climate control for example and compare that to the Audi A5's climate control.
No..look at that infotainment, thrash design with those buttons up there, also the front is over stylized(idk how to say it). Mazda 6 looks far better inside out, or the new Peugeot 508
@@bhongtastic A lot of their early 2000's cars had design elements that looked straight up grafted from other brands. And also dont forget, designers move around from brand to brand. One of Kias designers did work for Mercedes and VW.
This needs a station wagon version, like the Proceed GT
Previous gen k5 in Korea had that
For Europe for sure. We buy almost only wagons in this segment.
The car's exterior is something special. I'm so glad some automakers have the will to make something new. Well done Kia

I get a lot of looks with my K5, I have the Pearl White with red interior package and really stands out from the crowd of this class of cars especially for the price point. When I pull up next to a Camry or Accord they look so basic now.
I’m debating on either white or grey exterior with red interior. Hard choice, what do you recommend
not as reliable tho
Basic? Pull up next to a Camry with the same interior and it'll be on par
getting looks from people who are looking for the cab they ordered? lol
I think someone may have said this already, but that's been the name in Korea since 2001. It's still technically a 4th-Gen Optima in theory.
I find my self being in the minority regarding sedans. I'm really sad to see so many of them being phased out.
They’ll comeback. My gen loves em 85% of zoomers want a sedan according to Nissan. That will come as a slap in the face to GM AND FORD in coming years. I personally have a Town Car and love it sad when it got discontinued. I’d bet within the next 15 years or so we see sedans make a substantial comeback probably sooner rather than later.
I travel a lot, I always request a Optima, Sonata, Camry. Gas mileage on a Optima is impressive, the ride not bad, low road noise, plenty of room, cops avoid looking at them! Built in Georgia.
A lot of people I interact with dislike crossovers. Yeah I'm more of a sedan and wagon guy. If Mitsubishi made a modern Galant VR4 (the newest Citroen 508 is close for me anyway styling wise to the 8th gen Galant) I would so own one If I could or beg a close family member to buy one.
I agree. I have no desire to ever own an SUV/crossover or truck but it seems like that's all people are buying these days. I've always owned Fords but now that they stopped making cars I may look elsewhere for my next vehicle.

"Rainy day" sounds more like someone pissing
Only in America this car is just only mid size car.
Everyone's "midsize" sedans are getting big, nothing to do with America, its literally KIA's middle sized sedan.
Also in China 😂
Burrito Man Mr in Europe they call cars by segment letters. Technically this is midsize in Europe even compared to a 7 series or a class
I hope sedans regain traction, it’s annoying seeing a bunch of big ugly explorers and suburbans running around
You forgot to mention rav4’s, crv’s, and Cherokee’s 🤦♂️. I hate suvs their too big, not stylish at all, and unexciting.
Get a Fisker ocean

Doug: the type of guy to film on Thursday, July 16 at 1:15
lol
Just bought this as my first car absolutely love it
Same! I got the EX, and I drive it almost every day! It is pretty fast for what it is...
The grill looks like newspaper hats 😂
The adjustable fan speed for the auto climate control is probably the best feature of this whole car
My Peugeot 3008 has the same feature and I’ve only ever left it in the mid setting.
My 2002 volvo does that😂
My 2011 BMW 328i has this feature
My 2014 Renault Laguna 3 does that ! It's a great feature ! I often use it ! It's a great feature. it's not the fist time that Doug is amazed at a feature this car does already have for years ! lol
Idk how you guys cars do it lol. Also specially that 328i. On all bmws I’ve owned if you touch the fan speed on auto it turns it off
*This looks like Kia's answer to a Lexus ES I'm guessing, but less power* 👍
Car...No, that would be the Kia Cadenza (K7).
The gt versio has like 300 hsp I believ
@@CarsandCollectors Right. Almost. 290hp and 311 lb/ft.
@@johnholst it would be cool if they did a versio of the k5 as a sport coupe.
@@CarsandCollectors You're right! That would be wicked!
Saw one of these last weekend. Had no idea what it was, until now. Nice looking car.
Does anyone else like those “rubber stone thingy’s” under the front headlights?
You mean the grille?
Lucas Blanchard it doesn’t have any hole so...
Looks kinda like a whale's mouth
Well, yeah, but what threw me off is that Dr. Q said “rubber stone thingys”, what makes you say that they’re made of rubber?
No, but I like the ones under the rear headlights.
8:50 The pull means you can just pull out the holder... just so you know
When you review cars you should know that 👍🏼
Savage Geese's review of the K5 was so much more informative...... How are they not more popular than this?
Doug: "This car is cool. It look cool, it's got cool tech...."
Also Doug: Cool factor is 1/10
Doug: My dad used to have camry as our family car, but now days you don't really see midsize sedans as family cars anymore
Indian Immigrant parents: AM I A JOKE TO YOU??
That makes sense. The 2013 Ford Fusion was a very handsome car, but it's all over the road now and nobody is gonna turn their head towards a Fusion, unlike a Mustang. The K5 will be like that in a few years once it starts to sell.
Maybe
@Munshat Rahman 100%
"If they're not very bright", what a nice way to put it 😂
I love how the centre of the steering wheel is plastic with a "leather" texture, while the actual leather on the rim is completely smooth
It's going after the Honda Accord dressed up like an Audi A5. Incredible design. I love the front. It doesn't have a huge grill.
Incase you didn’t hear they will be coming out with a GT version
He said that in the video.. lol...
SPCStudios 2017 that was the joke
Will there be a GT version?
@@jafizzle95 I'm not sure, they might have a GT version, but who knows?
In case you didn't hear, the GT will NOT get AWD. But the 1.6 models will have it as an option.
I am really loving what Kia and Hyundai are doing these days. So much so I bought one. A 2020 Veloster N performance.
all cars need nixie tube displays confirmed
8:37 hey Doug, the “pull” on the wireless phone charger is actually to remove the plastic insert so you can fit bigger a phone and clean it with ease of access.
Next Video:- Here's why the Mini GP is faster than your average mini🤣🤣 I really hope that's the title..
I lold after listening to Doug explain that he hits the detonator style lock button even when he's not around the car.
Doug share not only the quirks and features of the cars, but also, the quirks and features of himself. I think that's why I watch...
Dougs "only" demerit in styling is the grill. That's one of the things I like best about the look of the car.
What my neighbor wants me to say about his new Kia "what do you got in that thing?!" What I actually say to my neighbor about his new Kia "can I please hear some sounds of nature? "
The wireless charger says “Pull” because you can pull the actual unit out if your phone is too big for the charging slot so it’ll still charge it..
A Shining reference in a Doug video is definitely the last thing I expected
