The interior is mediocre. But you get far more in terms of performance and sportiness than any of the cars mentioned above. It had an actual LSD Handles better than both the K5 and accord. Has pretty much the best dual clutch trans which Is what the K5 is based on. And gains more power from a tune. It just depends on what ur shopping for
@@sharktin240 it's not just mediocre the quality is just bad. By 15k miles so much of that car was falling apart it was ridiculous. And being fwd, it would have benefited way more from an eLSD over the mech one. The DSG is good for a DCT but is still clunky and awkward in daily driving. If you do wanna tune and bolt on power it is smart to stay with the DSG tho bc the stock 6spd clutch is basically made out of glass haha. It's the same clutch that's in the 1.4t It obv is gonna handle better than the K5 and Charger tho I mean that's a given.. it's a small car. It's a Jetta lol. The wheel base is so much longer on the other 2. The K5 isn't a track attack car, it's a performance trim daily family sedan. It's not trying to be a track car lol.
This was very helpful to me, along with some of your Stinger and other Charger reviews. I am weighing the K5, Stinger and Charger and I'm having a hard time finding good reasons to not buy the K5 GT. Well done, sir! Thank you for your work!
You should consider getting a car that will hold its resale value over the years, theres no point in buying a car for 30k and in 5 years have a resale / trade in value of $10k. You should look into lexus is200/250 models and the wrx. I had an STI i got brand new in 2013 $37k off the lot, I traded it in last year with 60k miles and I got $30k in trade in equity for it.
I had a Charger RT for a few years, I have a Stinger GT now, and a family member currently has a Sonata N-Line. While I'm sure the K5 GT is a fun way to get around I think it's still hard to beat what a RWD platform offers dynamically.
I've been in a 5.7 Charger RT in sport mode and this one didn't sound like that at all. Shifts were way to quick to be in sport mode...didn't go to red-line and then shift...something is off with this test!!!!
The charger never changed mode and he eased off the gas a little to let the Kia beat him for optical. The stringer cannot beat that charger at all. I had both

I love my K5 GT. Amazing performance for a Kia and a 4 cylinder. Also gets awesome fuel economy and all of that on 87 octane might I add. Over the past year I have owned a Challenger R/T 5.7 and then traded it for a Charger Scat Pack 6.4 before this Kia and the K5 GT feels just as fast as the Scat Pack from a dig or slow roll to me. Sold the Scat Pack after 6 months due to rising gas prices and 11mpg while requiring 93 octane fuel. This K5 GT has similar feeling performance on 87 octane and it can get 35mpg average.
@@erick300k Actually I traded my daily driver 19 Honda Accord Sport for the Kia. I sold my weekend driver Scat to Carmax and a few months later bought my Miata. Carmax paid me more money than it costed new to buy the Scat Pack. Sorry but it wasn’t fun enough to justify 11mpg and premium fuel even just driving it on my weekends. I had a 18 5.7 Challenger R/T before the Scat and I actually regret trading it for the Scat. The 5.7 sounded better, got better fuel economy, and was still way more power than I needed to have fun. And I actually don’t have the Kia anymore. Traded it in a month ago for a 22 F150 4x4 Ecoboost Supercrew. The Scat is overhyped in my opinion. It was the car I sold the quickest after buying it.

@@jstrout626sir you have absolutely no idea what your talking about the 5.7 does very well with boost your thinking of 6.4 that doesn’t do well with boost
Holy smokes!!! I was absolutely shocked at the difference between normal and sport without TC. For the money, the KIA is a great option for a daily driver.
Well aside from the fact the Kia is 6-700 lbs lighter, and the gears in that Charger are likely the 2.62s, one thing in my experience racing my 09 Challenger R/T at the track all these years is the 5.7 specifically doesn't like heating up to operating temperature when racing. The difference between letting my car cool down or running it at full temp is usually 3 tenths of a second. The iron block plays a part of it, but it doesn't seem like the 6.4 or the LT1's in the Camaro have it as bad as the 5.7. To those harping on the 5.7 in the comments, it's a great engine, R/T's are burnout and donut machines in stock form and incredibly fun to drive! They also pick up a lot of extra HP with minor mods and tweaks so it's a fun platform to get into and work on over the years. Not taking anything away from the Kia of course, it's cool to see that not only the muscle car side of the car hobby is seeing a surge in hp numbers but the import side as well. Both cars have very different personalities but either way I'm sure everyone can agree it's a great time to be a car enthusiast!
Not hating on the K5. Honestly thinking about getting one for DD. but this is video is BS. Either the driver not giving it all the gas or there’s something wrong with that car. Mine is definitely not that slow especially against a Kia k5

Hey I have a 2009 sonata with that 3.3 v6 and mine is at 249 horsepower! I have beaten 3.6 v6 chargers and challengers easily. Beaten Hemi V8 rams on a daily basis. And beaten sooo many other cars in a drag race. Smoked lots of 6 cylinder BMW's an R32 golf Audi TT. I run 9.66 in an eighth mile at 78 mph faster than my brothers 2013 ltz impala 300 HP 3.6 ! Great engines 3.3 v6
From someone who used to own a 5.7 R/T (now a 6.4), very nice video. Somethings to keep in mind as well: In stock form, the 5.7 generally will fall on it's face near the 1/8 mi, often a little bit beforehand (I've lost a couple of races right at the end due to this). Also, that Daytona R/T more than likely came with the 2.62 rear end gearing as opposed to the 3.07 (open differential) that could often be found in the R/T Plus models; not saying this would make a world of difference but I have beaten a 2.62 R/T Daytona. With a manual, the differential would go to the 3.09 found in Scat Packs as well. Again, not a world of difference and I firmly believe that the results (specifically in the roll) would be the same, but some information to keep in mind.
right! my brother has a 18 chally 5/7 shaker package with super track pac. rear gear is 3.70 and it walks all over most other 5.7 challengers and chargers. I could tell this car in the video had tall ass gears. it also didnt sound like it was revving out as high as it should.
my money is on Hemi normal mode, & K5 in sport mode. Unlike Stinger, its sport mode seems to help it out more, as Stinger goes beast mode in all modes, when full throttled !
Chrysler’s 5.7 HEMI engine deserves respect for the long list of popular cars and trucks it’s powered for nearly two decades. In my opinion, that goes to show the great success of the engine. If the 345 HEMI were a below average engine it’s unlikely Chrysler and Dodge would keep it around for so long in their flagship cars. The 5.7 Hemi was on the Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2003 through 2007, and again in 2009...The Coyote made Ward's 10 Best Engines list for 2011, 2012, and 2018.
As heavy as the Dodge is, it still has an advantage at 11.6 lbs per hp vs 12.3 lbs per hp for the Kia...and it still gets walked. Of course there's more to it than that (engine tuning, transmission, etc), but it's still an interesting outcome.
I once heard that if you double a cars weight you need to quadruple the horsepower to make it as fast. No idea if it's true or not but I think it was from a car magazine or something
Talk about major humiliation, been saying this for years now, without the hellcat engine these chargers and challengers are just noise...fat, and slow LMAO
Just so everyone knows, when your front end is even with the back end of the other car THAT is you being behind by 1 car length. Why this is so hard to understand amazes me.
i'm stunned. that charger with with 5.7 hemi may not be a challenger, but it is a killer. i wouldn't have believed the kia 5 gt would perform this well against it. i expected the kia to have quicker pick up, but get beat as the race progressed....instead it was the reverse.
These new Kias are no joke. I been buying them for 25 years. They are tough as nails and keep getting better. Figure 100,000 mile warranty. No other car company comes close to those numbers. I just traded my 21 Challenger Scat Pack on a K5. Loved the look of the Scat but unless you're on the track everyday, what good is it? Tars cost $400 each. Oil $10- a quart. Car is useless in the snow. To each his own.
I have the older with 273 HP, 269 ft-lbs. It doesn't jump out of the hole either. When it's moving however, you shift to first you must be careful not to snap your neck. (I have, and it hurts). It was never designed as a drag car, but a GT car for traveling with excellent acceleration and handling. My 2013 turbo model has enormous brakes, and the suspension is better than man high end cars (no names).
I regularly eat challengers, camaros, chargers, and mustangs for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in my Stinger GT2. If it's a base model domestic v8 you're in trouble.
It's all about power to weight, easy to find who will win. The less weight per HP = faster Charger 370hp/4291lbs = 11.5lbs: 1hp Stinger 290/3471 = 12.3lbs:1hp And also how long between run, was each car checked for heat soak etc??
The RT looks like it's fast, but the platform is too heavy for the 5.7 and goes to show that looks can be deceiving. The 5.7 was never meant to be a performance motor and were designed for Ram pickups to begin with, so it's way under powered and have got to be at least the 392 to be competitive
@@bumpylump9236 392 MSRP 40k, and it's not fully loaded, so if you want the same features as that "Kia" you looking at around 60k for a plastic boat 🚢, and when that kia get new spark plugs smaller gap, JB4 and 93 octane. Bye bye charger. Be a smart man and choose that kia.
I owned a 2017 R/T Blacktop Edition. It’s a beautiful engine. The sound. The power. I don’t miss the weight. Those dogging the R/T have never driven one or are new to cars and engineering. This race came down to weight and rpms not not power. The R/T crushes the power side. K5 GT reaches peak at 5800 rpm and weighs 3534 lbs. R/T reaches peak at 5250 rpm and weighs 4290 lbs. If the internet racers don’t understand that……
The only problem I have with this is that my old roommate has a tuned k5 and I have a performance upgraded v6 Charger( almost as fast as an rt now) and even with his tune I still win. So I don’t see how a slower k5 than his could beat a hemi faster than me
Because this is a staged race. I watched a video a couple years ago by a clown who calls himself "drag times", which he was put a 2018 Demon against a nissan gtr, all wheel drive and the nissan supposedly beat the Demon. I has trouble understanding how the Demon, which is NHRA certified to run 9.65, could get beat by a car advertised to run in the 11s'. This, just as that one, looks to be a bunch of staged BS

Great races! That K5 is a beast! Regarding the Sonata Nline and K5, I read that there is a new recall for some of the models where it seems some of them may been manufactured wrong leading to insufficient tourqe. Is it possible that the Sonata Nline you used could be part of this recall and that may be why it lost against the K5? Would this affect performance even? Here is the official statement "The fuel pipe connecting the high-pressure fuel pump to the fuel rail may have been installed in the 2.5-liter turbocharged engines with insufficient torque during assembly at the HMMA."
Honestly who's racing their 5.7 charger without tunes and mods? They too heavy stock to run impressive. It's a 4 door grocery getter with a big ass and some style. 392 challenger is a V8 you buy to play with stock, just make sure to put on some bigger rubber.
What you expect a turbocharged charge 2.5l against a stock small block 345. Plus a weight difference. The v8 has old components. While the 4 cyl has upgraded engine components and a turbo charge. Put that Kia up again a CLA 45, Porsche 718 Cayman S, Ford Focus RS, 2016 Audi S3, or etc. there’s plenty of 2.0 to 2.5 turbo charge car out here that push up 370 hp and lighter than the hemi charger. @@sharktin240 GLi is quick but man the Mk7s quality is horrible. They really cheaped out on the interior with the current gen.

This is the only thing that holds me back in getting a Scat pack. I just can't fathom getting 10 to 12 miles per gallon. It's insane.

I had a 18 5.7 Challenger R/T before the Scat and I actually regret trading it for the Scat. The 5.7 sounded better, got better fuel economy, and was still way more power than I needed to have fun. I have the Stinger GT2 and it's great. I was considering the K5 BUT the highest HP K5 is only FWD and not AWD. The thing that the Charger has going for it that the Kia's do not is the aftermarket ability to make MONSTEROUS horsepower! Obviously I made my choice at the start of this comment and I'm extremely happy with it!
5.7 doesn't hold boost very well. Not too much potential there unless you drop a huge amount of money
Actually they do. There are some stingers making 700+hp. For 600 buck you'll be pushing over 400 whp on a simple tune.
