Defense can be executed in different ways and it’s more of a team thing, especially in the nba. There is no replacing or replicating what Jokic can do. 2 way play does not cancel out the value of what Jokic and Luka can do offensively, that’s not how basketball players are evaluated. It’s definitely cuz they’re White.

Since 2019, there have been an average of 3 50 win teams in the West and 6 in total every season. 2019 was their first year, no one was stopping LeBron and AD in 2020, the Nuggets were heavily injured in 2021, and everyone outside of Jokic had a bad series versus Minnesota last season. Not as balid of an argument as you might think.

I don't buy SGA above Luka, but he's dominant enough (including this Olympics) to be in the conversation. To me, anyone who wants to be in that competition has to have the numbers AND be able to carry a team deep into the playoffs, even without a strong team. That rules out Steph, LeBron (at this age), KD, or other all time greats.

Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals Jokic absolutely proved he was and is the Best Player in the world but not necessarily on the Best team. If he had another All Star player on the Nuggets legit that team is nearly unbeatable. MPJ and Jamal Murray are just too inconsistent although both can elevate their games at times. Also with extensive injury histories. Jokic is so great no matter what his team looks like is a playoff team. He needs help to be a Championship team but taking the Nuggets especially a few years ago to the Playoffs with 3 of the starting 5 injured was insane.
Outside of Shaq AI was definitely the best player in league for 2 or so years. But as good as FOX is he’s not on Tatum level. Tatum been in 2 finals, won 1, & been in maybe 3 other ecf. & he’s a good defender
