The original Dream Team was almost TOO GOOD. Europe got that beating and looked at the way those old school guys worked and said “that’s what we need to do.” Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.
"Hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard." Which is why the US has won 6 out of 7 gold medals since the Dream team. And the only time they didnt, Kobe, Shay, Ray Allen, Vince Carter, Kevin Garnett and Jason Kidd couldnt make it for reasons from injury, weddings, summer surgery, to court cases 🤷🏾♂
Chris really needs to listen to Rob. The 15 year old who is getting attention, women and money at that age is not going to give that up to learn the fundamentals. The 15 year old doesn't care about which country is teaching players better or who is going to win gold at the Olympics. They are living day-to-day. They are living in the now. Yes, someone needs to break through and teach these kids, but we have to change collectively as Americans. The same issue is happening with actors as well. So many studios are choosing international actors over Americans because they actually go to school for years and learn how to act. They are far more versatile and experienced.
Chris is too busy screaming like he always does to actually listen to what anyone has to say. You're absolutely right, and it was the point Rob was trying to make. The problem is these kids are getting WAY TOO MUCH. Zion Williamson got $75 million from Nike alone before he ever dribbled a ball in the NBA and could have received $100 million if he went to a Chinese brand. These guys are making more money THEN SOME **COUNTRIES** !!! Now, as someone who's watched the NBA since 1980, I can tell you all of the obvious flaws in all of these one and done kids. But I won't like: if I was in their position, I'd do the exact same thing, take the money. Well the problem is these European players are coming to the NBA with the fundamentals our players used to get playing 4 years in college. If things continue, the NBA will most certainly belong to international players.
Lol this guy Evan Turner. It's so funny how Black folks feel they have this free card to be racist and or prejudice publicly but no other group does 🤷♂. Jokic is fun to watch. Guys that depend on strength and athleticism but are low on skill like Giannis are boring.
American hoopers aren't hungry......30 plus years ago there was hunger on American basketball courts.....now NONE. Over seas nothing but hunger.......the hunger creates the drive and the competitive spirit.
The ability to get money earlier in life compared to back then makes a big difference. I’m for dudes getting paid using their talents at any level because someone is getting paid off of you so get yours first. But that doesn’t mean lose the hunger. TBH Ben Simmons is a major example of too much too early and it waters down the chance for others.
NBA is developping facilities in Africa and an african league. If Africans can have the opportunity and access to better youth development. Euros will be the least of Americans players problems 😅
Social media has been the detriment of a lot of problems in American society. I would say the same thing for basketball at the grassroots level. Too much and too soon exposure with fame money and stardom not to mention social media and female love…hunger is gone when it’s sadly expected from American born players and is even throw Canada in there
We went through that very same thing up here in Canada with hockey and curling. We had to realize that most of the world has caught up to us and sometimes even surpasses us in ability, grit, talent and strategy. Excellent talking points gents.

There is no academic association with sports in Europe. America is unique that way. That’s why euros good enough for an athletics scholarship will come here.
Facts, The NCAA is a corporation designed to friendly export the student athletes at all cost. The NBA is and was complicit with ensuring that the NCAA got their coins.
It is the NBA'S fault by allowing this bring back college and real high school Basketball for the games sake and stop letting high school kids enter the draft at least 3 years of College and a Degree in Finance
Only the regular season. Did you watch that OKC/Dal series. They let Dort get away with so much against Luka. And you know what? I think fair play. I think it made the series better.
Every ERA says THEIR ERA PLAYED DEFENSE. I remember 06-10 and everybody saying nobody played defense. I saw clips of magic saying 'don't touch jordan it's a foul' in the 90's. Watch the full games, eras back then fouled the same way and touch fouls were called on jordan, kobe, AI etc all the time
@@mrfathed3129I agree they let them play in the playoffs which made it better to watch but you could see the players kept looking for calls because they aren’t use to physical play.
I don’t think it’s just basketball issue, but it’s about “get rich quick” culture and mentality that has been part of the social media society. There isn’t much emphasis or promoting of fundamentals or learning process from the bottom. Not many could play or be in the bigger stage to be playing in arenas quickly or even at all. For many artists or comedians, they start from doing it small clubs and venues, and when they get that break, they get to perform in the big stage. Good to dream big, but everyone needs to develop skills to be taught and take the years of development. I think that’s what’s been taken away with social media platforms and culture.
So why aren't these former NBA players going into coaching in College, High School, and AAU levels. They need to coach American players the right way instead of coaching them to be score first shooters
More times than not, great players don't turn out to be great leaders. MJ was a hell of a player, but he wasn't a good leader, same with Kobe and probably LeBron.
Most great players don't make great coaches. Most don't even try. A former player that has millions of dollars doesn't have to put up with the criticism and the attitudes coaches have to deal with these days.
Sleep if you want. Look at other industries that African Americans used to dominate. It's increasingly becoming a rarity you can be some kid from Queensbridge or Bed Stuy and become a superstar rapper. Chris needs to stop saying the best players are no longer American of course they are but they're not ONLY American now. Just look at the final 4 teams: Boston has Tatum & Brown, Indiana has Halliburton & Turner, Minnesota has Edwards & Towns (and Gobert), and Dallas has Kyrie (and Doncic). I will say that most of the best big men are foreign born players: Jokic, Embiid, Gobert, Wemby, Porzingis, Sabonis, etc.

I like to compare it to the UFC and the how the Dagestan dudes aka the khabib camp has taken over the ufc..they focus on technique, fundamentals, hardcore training and it won’t be long for the NBA. International players are held to a different level developmentally
Rather watch a smart, crafty player that can shoot, make incredible passes, somebody with a post game, who can kill you going left or right, his footwork is insane. yeah, I'll take that any day over some guy who solely relies on his athleticism ...
Back to the Basics and play team basketball like the Euro league. Too much focus on highlight films. Being given huge contracts despite not proven anything in the NBA.
Ive been saying this for years. Intelligence, maturity and discipline are winning in many sports. In CFB, coaces are showing much less patience for immature, problematic players.
Wait so Turner doesn’t want to see basketball executed at the right pitch tone and frequency ?? Reminds me of Nick Cannon when he failed the mission on drumline because he refused to read music
I really don't get the disdain for foreign players. Like who cares as long as they've earned the right to be where they're at. It's just ignorant to me.
If you are a pretty good hs player on a decent aau team, you will get starter minutes, a small amount of college attention, and if you’re lucky you work with a personal trainer every week. or so. If you are a pretty good international hs player of the same skill level as the american kid on the first example, you might be the best player in your town that anyone has seen. You will get the best coaching anywhere nearby with all the resources that town can afford you. You’ll get sent to your country’s professional team to play with them at 16 (Luka) where you will get professional coaching and unlimited development opportunity. Better to be a big fish in a small pond than a small fish in a big pond, and that’s why the Lukas, Embiids, and Giannis’s are going to be coming in droves.
I would bet the top 50-100 kids in every recruiting cycle get better training than Luka got at the same age. Outside of playing with the grown men which American kids have that option they just rarely choose to go over seas as top recruits. Lamelo did but I can't think of anyone else.
@@Travis89-ob5ttI think playing with older players in a environment with much tougher rules and learning things from coaches and teammates but also getting along with older vets helps international players because they learn the fundamentals in addition to being a focal point to a team and a locker room. Playing with players you're same age or slighty older with fancy trainers everywhere you go helps but if you're not learning the fundamentals and don't capitalize on all the otherworldly athleticism or traits you have that can lower or stagnate your potential. Anthony Edward's in this case due to being extremely hungry to fix his flaws is the exception to the rule: however I will say that's where guys like Jokic, Luka, Giannis, and Wemby stand out from those in their draft classes. Also Lamelo for a guy with his situation at the time did the right thing and maybe one day besides that rookie year we will see that the nbl did a lot for him as a player and a leader.
Truth is high school coaches are not teaching position less basketball. The AAU circuit are doing the same. Over seas players can play multiple roles. They are not fancy just mechanically sound.
The gap has certainly closed I think it's good for the NBA. I am from the Caribbean where cricket was invented by England and the West Indies team became a force to be reckoned with becoming the world best at one point. Now many countries play the sport. USA basketball is still alive no need to panick! Globalization means more money for the NBA and more opportunities for foreign players. There's a macro and micro perspective
American players don’t have no dignity, desire and discipline no more. Too pampered and spoon fed without any accountability in them. Give everything handed to them without earning it especially when you gotta grind through the top. European players have respect in my books.
European players are allowed to become professionals as teenagers, the US obviously doesn't allow that. All that stuff you said American players don't have is BS, European players can barely play defense and the league makes it harder and harder to even play defense. If the NBA allowed players to play defense again Europeans would become liabilities quick.
Blame AAU and 1 and done… that’s why American players are underwhelming… they get babied and catered to while European players are getting roughed up by grown men in European pro leagues
Tatum, Brown, Ant, Brunson, Halliburton, Zion, Ja, Chet, D Mitchell, Booker, Fox, Maxey, Jalen, Paolo, Trae, Lamelo are all American born and under 30. The league has no shortage of up and coming American stars. It’s just that the top 3/4 weren’t born here but even Embiid and Shai played HS ball in America and went to Kansas and Kentucky.
Who really cares anymore? The NBA's ratings are terrible bc ppl don't want to hear politics and DEI during the game. They just want to watch the game. For the past few years, I was been watching the game in mute bc I didn't want to hear the commentators ludicrous banter. And I sure didn't want to hear Doris Burke's analysis of the game. And as a woman, Idc what ppl think of my comment. I just don't want to hear her. She once said that two players had intimate knowledge of each other's game. What kind of language is that to use during a basketball game? I don't want to hear basketball broadcasted in those terms. The NBA is almost over. Ppl are tired of it in its present form. Soon no one, regardless of where he comes will have a job or will be struggling for a damn job.
The NBA better ask HBO Boxing how it turned out when they decided to focus on foreign fighters. American people will never buy in to someone who doesn’t culturally connect. One or two here or there is not the same as all of them speaking with thick accents.
Look at what happened in baseball. Now everyone is saying where are all the AA that used to come through like Ken Griffey or Willie Mays. A lot of them were raw talent and athleticism. Now people have huge resources to put into actual trainers from young. So this trend won't reverse.
@@gothamcity4206 you might be too young to remember a time where African Americans were very prominent in the game of baseball where you had huge African-American stars. However, as time has gone, baseball is pretty expensive for inner city kids where real estate to have baseball fields is not easy to come by. Also, baseball equipment is can be pretty expensive and camps. However, when you have a lot of the Latin countries, even though individually, some of these people may be poor. But as a country and the programs that they can put on to develop their kids, there's a lot more resources and everything so African Americans really stop even trying and going after baseball a lot basketball. You could just pick up a ball and go to a parking that's very cheap and easy and accessible. However, these days just picking up a boil and going to the park is not going to get you NBA ready anymore as other groups and other people are able to hire full-time trainers and staff to work on skills, train, etc. So the point stands you will see the same way that happened in baseball, a decrease in the amount of African American basketball players. Football is still a very uniquely American sport. However, you do have other communities starting to pursue football and compete in football as well so as other groups. Begin desire those spots more and compete for those spots more and African Americans have less resources to try to compete back. That is just a simple nature of it.
I agree with this conversation. The European and other foreign players come from fundamental backgrounds and humility. The media has so much to do with the players egos in America. Teams seem to respond to what's written. Bronny James is an example. Seems to be a good kid. Respectful, humble, manners and very likeable. However his name has no business been mentioned as an NBA player at this time for any reason. The girls college game is the best basketball game in America right now for many of the reasons mentioned. In two or three years they will mess the girls game up also. It is now the America way.
Nba players used to go to college for 2-4 years and come into the nba as grown men knowing how to play. The trend towards the league being what it is now began when the skipping college or one and done began
Former American Players are clutching their pearls and engaging in mild basketball xenophobia instead of working to fix the broken Basketball system in the united states. To be honest it's all very American so I'm not surprised, but I do wish the celebrity of Young players would go away. It won't. The cats out of the bag, but it would be nice if by some miracle young players were taught basketball instead of being told how great they are.
The only way to fix this is get rid of high school and college basketball. In Europe, good players get their GED and go pro at 15. High School/AAU/NCAA Division 1 isnt tough enough competition
Eastern European players, African players & other international players have a hunger that cannot be matched. US born players may know struggle, but international players have not only unmatched hunger and access to player development that US born players don’t have. They become professionals at a much younger age. No equivalency.
Talented 15 year olds where getting the attention, women and money at that age long before it became a KNOWN thing today. So this thing about how somehow fundamentals are now being lost is pure Myth. Either the players cares about those things or they don't. It has NEVER helped that the Media and fanatical Fans keeps PUMPING UP, those Logo 3s, then they have NERVE to complain about fundamentals.
Too many unskilled young US players in the nba. One and dones have helped ruin the league. I want to see skilled players whether they are US born or not. I predict we will see fewer and fewer US born players and that might be better for the nba product going forward.
American sports are tied to school, nowhere else is that true. We dont have a second pro league. So its all individual workouts while you skirt the school system. We also dont have basketball without borders, or NBA development academies like they do. Essentially our kids have to navigate shoe circuits, navigate schools and figure it out on their own, while the NBA helps develop the rest of the world. Also, the NBA squashed the other pro leagues.
Bottom line: entitlement. ok, so you can jump over a Kia. Thats useless in a game. Sure athleticism can be critical but talent, hard work, skill and brains still matter. Look at US heroes: Ja and Ky. Ja hasnt played in 18 months and Ky is in his redemption arc like crazy. Guys dont want to win. They want to win THEIR way. Ky hit one shot 8 years ago.
Jokic is boring has to be the worst take in the history of sports in my opinion. There is absolutely nothing boring about watching Jokic play. He like Duncan is unbelievable technically sound but he is so unorthodox in the way he goes about it. Its seriously like watching a bowling ball play basketball in the paint but then he is slick and graceful in the perimeter. Especially when Jokic has one of them nights. Game 3 was a top 3 performance of all time. As close to a perfect game you will ever see in Basketball.
Chris Broussard is exact! The development of the best NBA players begins at home with the parenting. It reflects what has been absent from the American home for a century, and the representation of the mother and father are vital roles for the wholeness of the NBA game. The reason the NBA is what it is today is simply because the fathering has been too far gone and defense has been obsolete as it has been in the homes of America. What Jalen Rose is reinforcing is the edge that American NBA players need in order to survive and keep the NBA game in this continent. (GET BACK TO BACK TO BASKET POST........"IT AIN'T HARD TO TELL" - Nas, THAT'S WHY EVERYONE IS POSTING ONLINE NOW.)😎

Who gives a danm where your from our what color your skin is great is great just look at Tiger in Golf or Eminem in the rap world! Greatest is what it is it don't matter what danm color your skin is!
American players are given to much before they have earned it!! They learn 2 moves and use it for their entire career without improving entire game! They learn to flop and cry every play, they have no perimeter post up game, no defense, they don’t care if they lose , they want to be buddy buddy and team up with each other 🤷🏾♂️🤦🏾♂️
Cuz most NBA players are inner city kods that only know how slam dunk. European players focus on all other aspects of the game. Kobe knew, Lebron and Draymond know that you have to have an all around game
The best ones at a young age are so soft and pampered it's destroying American sports. They peak in high school and then it's all downhill for a lot of them. Now they're making millions in college football just to sign with a team. I'm sure that will be great for the long-term success of these kids. Daddy pimping them out to the highest bidder then tell them transfer after year 1 because they're not starting. College sports is a mess right now.
It’s still better than what it was before. Better to get “pimped” by your father and help the family than to get pimped by your millionaire College coach for NOTHING
I guess as long as they're still getting they're degree. That should always be most important. Some of these guys jump ship with no life boat thinking they're better than they are and they sit in the portal till it closes then poof there goes everything they had a month ago.

Jokic is the conductor and also plays every instrument in the orchestra. He is Einstein and Naismith--playing the game how it is supposed to be played, making the old seem innovative. I appreciate his expertise and deportment. American players need to learn how to play the game at a fundamental level while mastering their fundamentals as a players.
ngl i think Chris Broussard cares about the european takeover way more than anyone else. I watch a lot of sports talk shows, and talk to nba fans irl and online and none of them talk about it like Chris
Some people don’t like the fact that there are foreign “plumbers” who are currently dominating the game, and defeats their argument when they question Jordan being the greatest of all time because he was playing with who they call American “plumbers”. Edit: remember when kids walk around with a basketball saying Ball Is Life? The love for the game has been slowly dying.
European players are not fundamental sound. What the nba is doing is changing the way basketball is played so international players can play in the nba.

If you play against professionals at 16 years old then you actually have to develop your game to be successful. If you play against other high schoolers and you are supremely talented you don’t have to develop skills to dominate.
We had this when you pretty much had to play for your local HS. There may have been a parochial or second chance option in a larger City, but old school NBA stories included a ton of heavy handed HS coaches putting an up and coming star in their place. There is even the joke that the last two people to hold Michael Jordan to less the 20 PPG were Dean Smith and Bobby Knight.
The Problem is when we changed the rules to make it softer, overseas were still playing the 90s model, so when the come to America the game is too easy. No jand checking, weak in the post. Bring back 90s rules especially defensive motivation instead of all 5 players a 3pt shooter.
Imagine if Joker was a blk guy from Detroit. You think he’d be getting this much hate? The entire NBA media is against him it’s obvious you were all ecstatic when Minn knocked him out. Joker is the anti-LB. He’s humble, elite fundamentals, doesn’t take all the credit when his team wins but takes it when they lose. That’s true greatness. The NBA has become a league of over entitled cry baby’s jacking up 3’s constantly, poor fundamentals, more worried about their post game fashion show than being great players. How many of the last 10 championships have they won. 2?? How are they supposedly the best if they are not winning the chip?

We went through that very same thing up here in Canada with hockey and curling. We had to realize that most of the world has caught up to us and sometimes even surpasses us in ability, grit, talent and strategy. Excellent talking points gents.

There is no academic association with sports in Europe. America is unique that way. That’s why euros good enough for an athletics scholarship will come here.
Facts, The NCAA is a corporation designed to friendly export the student athletes at all cost. The NBA is and was complicit with ensuring that the NCAA got their coins.

Only the regular season. Did you watch that OKC/Dal series. They let Dort get away with so much against Luka. And you know what? I think fair play. I think it made the series better.
celtics and lakers don't foul
Yes. LeBron getting killed a few years back for passing to the open man instead of taking the game winning shot himself is peak Americana.
Why work for a solid career when you can post a dum dum TikTok and be famous in hours with no skills needed?
So why aren't these former NBA players going into coaching in College, High School, and AAU levels. They need to coach American players the right way instead of coaching them to be score first shooters
Less money and now you have to deal with the actual problem: the Parents!
because they arent getting hired to do so maybe
More times than not, great players don't turn out to be great leaders. MJ was a hell of a player, but he wasn't a good leader, same with Kobe and probably LeBron.
Most great players don't make great coaches. Most don't even try. A former player that has millions of dollars doesn't have to put up with the criticism and the attitudes coaches have to deal with these days.

European players are allowed to become professionals as teenagers, the US obviously doesn't allow that. All that stuff you said American players don't have is BS, European players can barely play defense and the league makes it harder and harder to even play defense. Look at what happened in baseball. Now everyone is saying where are all the AA that used to come through like Ken Griffey or Willie Mays. A lot of them were raw talent and athleticism. Now people have huge resources to put into actual trainers from young. So this trend won't reverse.
There are more football and basketball programs in the AA community than baseball and soccer🤷🏽

All these young USA hoopers trying be social media influencers, they ain’t got no time to be practicing fundamentals when there are more important things to consider … like how many followers they have on their instagram 😅😅🤣
Honestly that's really what it is my Guy. It's really unfortunate that the priorities have shifted😅😂 but yo everybody riding that influencer social media wave. It is what it is ya know
The problem is " da culture ".
What a lazy a$$ take! Everybody's on social media dum dum
@@YourePartofMeyou might be right until to you realize the joker stay on social media 🤷♀️😂 him and those horses 🤷♀️ so what’s your point
@@YourePartofMeHONESTLY, BOTH OF YOU GUYS ARE STUPID! THE RULES OF THE GAME HAS CHANGED SO EURO PLAYERS COULD HAVE A CHANCE! THE GAME IS NOT PHYSICAL ANYMORE, NO DEFENSE IS BEING PLAYED AND THAT SUITS THE WYTE OWNERSHIP AND EURO PLAYERS! BRING BACK THE 80’s & 90’s STYLE OF PLAY AND EUROPEAN PLAYERS WOULD NOT LAST HALF THE SEASON!!
AAU screwed these kids up no discipline they not being coached they want to be UA-cam celebrities.
No single country is producing any where near more talent than America its not even close.
Facts they overstate everything.
They don't have to produce more talent. They just have to produce better talent in small doses. Twenty years ago, nobody would have been able to picture the top 5 to 6 players in the league being international players. But here we are. Twenty years ago, the idea of 6 straight MVPS going to international players would have been laughed out. But here we are. If America is not careful, another 10 years will go by and the top 20 - 25 players in the league will be international players.
You guys eybl amd 3ssb has about 20 percent foreign players, expected to go to 50 in the next 2 years. They are recruiting basketball without border kids, Australian and New Zealand pipeline kids and we haven't even touched France and Spain.
Look at college rosters, you will be surprised at the non Americans
Yeh America does produce the most basketball talent. What is mindblowing it virtually all comes from the African American population. There are hardly any really good white American basketball players and are there any latino American basketball players?
@B.Piercesports No single country has to equal the talent. There are about 500 jobs in the NBA, the rest of the world just has to produce 250 more talented players for half the NBA to be international - you don't think that's possible in say the next 10 yrs?
I don't hear anything about Giannis and Embid. So why The Joker and Donic??
Whoever doesnt enjoy Jokic playing doesnt love basketball, he is the definition of a pure basketball player
He's not pure because he doesn't play defense
He has no competition that’s why I don’t enjoy it. At least Duncan battled against Shaq and kd
@@anthonytaylor7928 Americans always think that highlight worthy blocks is the only criteria for defense but its not, defensive rebounds, deflections and steals are also part of 'defense'
Who is evsn turner?
Jokic is exciting to watch! Amazing skills!
Evan Turner. 😂
I wish we’d get out of this international vs. native basketball players narrative. It does the league/fans no good honestly.
Jalen Rose is spot on. I knew a young man who was a great talent, but his expectation was to be a starter in college like he was in high school and AAU, and consequently, he was never able to advance beyond that.
The Americans have adapted a hip hop culture, which means hip hop values. The young Americans are obsessed with social media and being rappers. Its not about skills, Giannis has little skills , Luka plays like a slower Harden. Jokic is the only one who gets by on smarts , plus he's 7 foot.
Absolutely 💯, social media has taken over the masses
folks keep exaggerating this stuff...The Wolves are led by an American, the Mavs both both an American and Euro...While both Boston and IndianaP are led by Americans
And a African(Siakim their second best player)
