I once had a Power Mac G5 with the same dual 2.3 GHz CPUs as yours, and I upgraded it with two SSDs (a 120 GB and an 80 GB, I think), a 128 MB AGP video card and a bunch of USB and FireWire cards. Funnily enough, I wanted to upgrade the G5 to 8 GB of RAM (this model's maximum), but after a long process of gathering compatible sticks, I called it at a peculiar 7 GB.
I own the Early 2005 version of this PM G5. Maxed out with a Nvidia 6800 Ultra DDL, 8 GB of RAM en SSD and two 23 Apple Cinema Displays. Using Sorbet Leopard on it and it runs like a charm.
i have like 10 of these lol 1 quad absolutely no issues with it . a dual 2.7 that has a revised lcs no issues there a modded daul core 2.5 no issues at all a 2.3 a 2ghz xbox dev version and others
The UA-cam issue is probably from the VP9 codec UA-cam moved to. It makes my thinkpad with a dual core skylake i5 chug since there’s no hardware decoding. There is a Firefox extension called H.264ify that USED to force UA-cam back to 264 but in my experience, it seems to be broken or makes so little difference I can’t tell.
I have a 2.7 Dual with an 30 inch Cinema Display and 6 GB RAM. Great machine. Got the Adobe Production Suite (CS2) free for Power PC. Every Command to the computer let the vents blow. 10 years ago I had a leakage. It kills the Power Supply. I got a new one and a prozessor with heatsink. I didn’t use it much, because I bought a Mac Mini Late 2012. Now the Power Mac G5 stands together with a M1 Ultra Mac Studio and XDR Display. The latter is 500 times faster than the G5.
i have the same issue with slow youtube on my powerbook g4, but i’ve noticed if you pause the video for about 30 seconds to 1 minute after it loads, the video plays smooth
When people talk about how inefficient the pentium 4 was I always mention the G5. Shame snow leopard or lion didn’t run on the G4/G5 devices. I feel the later PowerPC Macs were cut off a bit too soon and were certainly powerful enough to run a few more OSX releases. Apple seems to be doing the same with their intel macs now that the M series chips are out.
I really like your channel and remember when you made those videos back when you used a certain iPhone for a week I’ve been using an iPhone 4s for almost a year now it’s my daily phone I just like it
I have an Aja Kona in my dual-core 2.3, it’s awesome, I have my switch and a Roku hooked up to it, I can watch 1080p video on it from the SDI I put and even capture it. It is super picky on ram, I had 16 gb in mine but 4GB just died so I’m down to 12 now, I’ve never seen it use more than 6-7
Fun fact: the G3 processor never got Leopard. You needed a G4 to stand a chance. Also, I could swear my 1.5GHz PowerBook G4 ran UA-cam better one year ago. Maybe it’s because I’m using InterWebPPC RR3 with the optimizations instead of the generic RR4 build?
That's True but G3 machines were able to boot MacOS 9 (or even 8) natively. Leopard came well after the switch to Intel so from a retro collectors view a G3 is considerably more "useful" than a G5. Because whatever needed Leopard was Universal so you'd better off with an old Intel Mac that is way faster and uses less energy than the G5.
I think they got the liquid cooling system being quite reliable in the last generation of the G5 Powermacs. Like in the quad core. But well every sealing will fail eventually so.....
They didn’t fix the G5 until its end of production, the last batch released in 2005 were perfect, my G5 quad is whisper quiet.
My dual 1.8 from 03 is also very quiet
Honestly for being released in mid 2003, that still looks really modern, I honestly think it looks newer than the 2019+ model.
Jony Ive is a truly talented individual.

Great video, my man. These were basically space heaters.

Aqua 🥹
Mobile device user agent and Viewtube script gives you 720P UA-cam - works on my Dual 2Ghz G5.
Good to know!
Doubt
Nah, it’s doable. I’ve seen it before.

ok
I got 1 same model PowerMac G5 2Ghz, without any issues, will list on ebay for sell soon

My dual 1.8 is pretty alright tbh

If you bought it dirt cheap , it's nothing to complain about .
Installing Linux on it would be a cool project

@@gentuxableSame applies to most G4 desktops and the TiBook. In fact, the first two PowerMac G4’s can even boot Mac OS 8!
Matt let the YT video buffer for a minute lol
Hey, I did! 😆
I just edited out me waiting because I’m impatient and like my videos shorter lol
My space heater broke so I bought a Power Mac G5.
lol, that’s a great alternative actually
Hi! Is there any chance that those liquid-cooled ones are still available? Thanks!

Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard

Totally not a completely pointless comment
Lol
