Appreciate the transparency of both Kevin and Chris to share their struggles and how they continue forward each day. Chris, you have reached another in your mission forward - this podcast hit home.
Semper Fi I recently have been listening to a lot of the podcasts. I served 94-07 and have finally started seeking out the help I need bc of it. Thank you
Keep up the good fight brother! Don’t know you but I’m on your side. I’ve struggled in silence since 07 when I got hit. And only recently made changes to work on myself. It made me realize how much more progress I could have made over the years.
I really enjoyed listening to you gentlemen. You sound authentic and brave. Thank you for being vulnerable and sharing with us now. Listening to you is saving me.
If your close to checking out, or even thinking about it... give it day. Sh!t sucks but nothing is insurmountable. No shame in asking for help, even if you don't know what's wrong or what the answer is. Keep trucking.
Mr Cathers, you will come out of this surgery, a friend had a lung removed when he was in high school; he got used to it. He is in his fifties and still going. I will watch your documentary, and thank you for making it.
Appreciate it. You were right - thankfully lol. Made it out of the hospital in just 2 days and hike 2 1/2 miles the day i got home. Wasnt easy but gotta stay moving. You can follow the progress of my rehab and our new 501 c 3 on my IG. Should have our Foundation website up this month (February 2023) so we can start helping Veterans in need! Appreciate you.
@@chriscathers6098 Don’t give up Brother, you are a true inspiration. I’ve been living on the edge for the past 3 months and I’ve tried therapy, exercise, and drugs, but the only thing that keeps me going are warriors like you that never keep their head down. Blessings from me to you and your family.
Thanks for sharing your stories. I can identify with the running part. Cross Country running will definitely help toughen someone and teach how not to quit when you get exhausted. Just one more mile or one more step is all I kept telling myself. Then recruiter (in 1986) signs me up for MLRS repairer, SMH. I try to guide all the young men I meet and want to join the military to make the right decisions.
I've used PTSR Response. It's a biochemical change within traumatic situations that occurs If you don't have that response, therein lies the problem. That's why the ones you least expect to go, do. Thank you both for inspiration for your brothers.
This is a great subject, Kevin when you mentioned how you control your eating by just having dinner and 2nd dinner, that's the same attitude as a anorexic person. I dating a girl who was 85 lbs coming out of the hospital and maybe 100 when we were engaged. I went to one of her meetings and they have the same mindset how they feel that's the only thing they can control. The suicide topic was enlightening to listen to, I am not military, but I had a gun in my mouth back in my 20's from my depression. Thankfully got through that and because I went through it, my 16 year old son understood you can get through these feelings when he was suicidal. Thank you both of your service. You have a new listener.
Man just listening to you Brought a lot of emotions I didn’t know I had. I don’t know you but I feel you’re talking to me.. You’re on point on what you saying. You’re not alone!!!!!
My two takeaways from this conversation: Warriors must have a target. When they transition away from active service and the targets dry up, they target themselves like an overactive immune system attacks healthy cells. Firefighting seems like an ideal career path once out. The objectives are clear, the adrenaline has an opportunity to get used up in a productive way, and the ball breaking and dark humor are expected and embraced.
I was drinking hard for 4 years due to losing some buddies. Just finally got meds for depression and anxiety, and I'm 4 days sober. I literally just started aa meetings.
@@chriscathers6098 I know this is crazy but I’ve been looking for someone to talk too?? I’ve never been too war but I’ve been dealing with PTSD since 2005 my therapist tells me. I was molested twice as a child and at the age of sixteen I witnessed a murder 3-4 ft from me. His brains were spattered all over me. In 2005 my babysitter tried to kill one of my twin boys. The doctors said he would never live or he did would be a vegetable for the rest of his life?? Well 18 years later he is special needs and has lots of seizures and was In special needs classes all through school but he was still with us. On November 19 2022 myself and and my youngest son Deacon went to the Dixie Gun And Knife show in Raleigh NC. The big one. For his 15 birthday. Seth was at my house with my mother watching him. He had a seizure at the top of my stairs and fell and hit his head very severely. He would not recover. My son died on Nov 23 2022. Please help

100% - transitioning out of the military is a big step. A solid support system and purpose are always a big help in dealing with the process.
Can we get a follow up podcast?
