As a Navy vet I’m probably violating some unspoken rule, but these Unit guys really are the best. I’m not talking on a technical level. That’s for them and the rest of JSOC to argue about. But, they just seem so much more humble and affable. Every single one of these interviews with them they just come across as a bunch of really cool nerds who happened to have the most awesome job in the world.
I was a 25u Commo NCO and was fortunate enough to be attached with a support group with these guys. At first I thought I was going to be around a bunch of knuckle daggers. They were all huge with big beards, cool gear, and looked scary as hell. I quickly found out that everyone of them were absolutely geniuses compared to me. They all knew my job better than I did and I learned so much from these guys. He is definitely being humble about his Commo skills. They were truly at a different level than anyone I had ever been associated with.
Have a buddy from high school that ended up Delta. Smartest guy I've ever met not to mention he just dominated everything he tried and the most humble. They know how to choose them.
That's what everybody says man, these guys aren't just star football players no, they throw the ball, catch the ball and coach. If they were a rock band every one of them is Lennon and McCartney
I love that he was the Delta guy that used the line from Navy Seals. Such a legendary moment. I just have to know if the answer was, "I believe you"...
He’s been my favorite so far!! Amazing that when he was at the top instead of beating his chest he treated everyone the same. Love how he said come up on this box with me! I could listen to his stories all day.
That is interesting when I went to the Delta recruiting briefing, around 1999-2000, they said that if you make it through to being an operator you could stay in your MOS for 3 years and if you decided to stay Delta after that you would have to reclass to 11 series or 18 series for promotion. It is funny to hear that someone who actually did it during that timeframe stayed in his MOS.
yeah I'm glad someone else noticed this. I think our bros in the Corps modeled their recon and raider cycles like that. but I noticed back in the day you would see a unit guy in ranger school or at the q course
This was a great episode with an awesome guest. Been looking forward to hear Jamey talk about stuff in more depth than I have seen before. Very interesting to hear his insight regarding the unit, competitive camaraderie, unit gear and when it became available to its operators, and some operations he was involved with. He seems like a regularly cool dude. Thank you for your time and your service Jamey, and thanks guys for another great episode.
The Army and Bass fishing go hand and hand. We had a badass rec center on Toledo Bend when I was in 5th ID at Ft Polk. Spent a ton of time on the lake. Caldwell is a badass!!
Jamey was awesome! Definitely bring him back! I think one of requirements for the unit is to be a cool, down to earth dude. Every former unit member ive seen interviewed is super cool/chill.
I know of him from serving with friends of his when we were both Lt's. Great guy from what I hear. Not an arrogant douche by any means. Well worth talking to if you can get ahold of him.
I discovered your channel at the start of the pandemic. And oh boy am I glad I did. You guys made those Friday nights in locked down London so much more enjoyable! Thank you, seriously. I do hope you get much more exposure in 2022. You really deserve it!
I was a PFC and was sent to BNCOC because they needed to fill a slot and my Col wanted me in that class. I was a 71L working in a Commo Section. So I quickly would up being the adjunct Commo SGT when we were in the field because even though I was lowest ranking, I was the only one with a TS Security Clearance and could operate all the equipment. Whenever we did a field exercise, I was the only one who could stay in the Commo tent when we went secure on the net because of the encryption equipment.
That question near the end about DEVGRU vs The Unit... like watching Babe Ruth mantle up to a tee-ball and take his time. Knocked right out of the park.
Robert Keller did combat story. He’s got multiple Long form interviews on UA-cam. Probably why they haven’t already interviewed him. Maybe they will soon.
Also when I worked with these guys they were rolling with Black Hills HP 556 because they gave their ammo to us when they rotated out of Iraq and it was a game changer from green tip.
Like Jamey I am also from Connecticut, in my 15 years in the Army I only met three others from my home state. Very rare to meet someone from CT on active duty.
Thanks for the stories and insight Jamey! Would love to hear some more from your long, storied career .... TEN deployments to Iraq.... Jeezus! That's not even counting Afghanistan and "other" stuff.... absolutely impressive bro .... I'll be looking out for future episodes... cheers! 🍻
I so miss my self built PC tower with a boss Never winter Nights account on it😊. I was in a weird job at Ft. Lewis and my section supported 2nd Batt. This is '91. There was some seeds of transformation regarding operator support. Fantastic organization 👍🏻. IFF, reconnaissance force,... Sketchy mix🤨. I see your Hobbit cave is as big as mine. I was fortunate to work with a Sgt. Bodnar who ensured we got our ropes right while diving off a cliff at Lake Belton. My first time was, 'save my life', the second was 'so I won't be afraid of it' 😊. For those in the know, SSG Crosset was my instructor at the C7 course😊 Thermite for the burning house? DS Sexton, an excellent marksman instructor🫡
Epic video. This and the first one I saw of Shrek on another channel are the best I've seen. All down to the guest, facilitated by the interviewers here who let Jamey speak.
Great episode guys! Awesome prep too! Suggestion - You should try to get LtCol Randy Hoffman on. He has a phenomenally interesting story to tell from his early days with Force Reconnaissance company, to his officer time where he was pulled to do clandestine (? Singleton) work in the Afghanistan VERY EARLY in the war. His recent story is also interesting in the as a LtCol he was deep selected for a wartime Bn Command which insanely difficult in the Marine Corps, but he had to turn it down in order to publicly address his PTSD. Read the N Y Times article. Brave guy.
pROPS TO THIS MAN. FROM SUPPORT TO BECOMING AN OPERATOR. TO TRULY DON'T HEAR A LOT OF SOLDIERS MAKING THRU HIS ROUTE. ITS USUALLY INFANTRY,SF THEN OTC. RESPECT.
SOF guys did their job too well. So the government was like hey we need to let UBL go. If we get him this early in the campaign, what we gonna do? We need to drag this war out, we're just getting started.
LOL. I came up as a 31C - 31W / 25W. Special Operations Communicators had a HELL of a time in Gordon BNCOC / ANCOC, because of having to build regular Army MSE (Multiple Subscriber Equipment) networks. I spent most of my time in the Army supporting Special Operations in SOCEUR SIG DET, JCSE, and 10th SFG (A). I had worked with SOCOM, while at JCSE, to field the SCAMPI terminals that ended up morphing into the SDN - L / M / H terminals. I also had attended the JBS (Joint Base Station) course and the Trojan- Lite course. Never had ANY work with MSE, but that's what Big Army taught at Gordon. I ended up teaching the PSC-5 course during ANCOC, and working with the school house to modify their POI. Good times. I retired in 2011, with 22 years of service, as a 25W4S5WF7.

Appreciated his stories and honesty! I always enjoy hearing the difference between DEVGRU and the UNIT great podcast guys!
Like the fact that he didn't pull the easy "we're all equal" line when asked about ST6 and spoke his mind about Green Team vs OTC
