I was comparing the WC rebuild to my team, the Hawks. I thought it was appropriate to compare in relation to the last flag of both teams 2015 and 2018. That places the Eagles three years behind so I was comparing our 2021 team. We were by far more competitive at that time but WC are arguably further along a track to another team that could potentially challenge for a flag or at the very least finals.
You guys seem to run on a roughly12 year cycle 94-06-18. Pretty good in a, now 18 club competition.
Will see you on GF day 2029 as we try for our third in a row against your young team led by your young captain and previous year's Brownlow winnee Harley Reid.

Hawks are about 3 years ahead. But the Eagles are just not having enough draft picks. 3 in the first four rounds next year. I reckon we need to free up some more spots and pick up guys with pick 60 plus in the draft. There must be talented guys being delisted or in lesser leagues that we can pick up for nothing. Roll the dice and see what eventuates. If they have excellent leadership and are determined then that is an important criteria with the veterans moving on. We need guys with a never surrender mentality.

Really good analysis. Actually helped me feel a little bit better about our situation. One thing I'll add though I genuinely believe cox and naitanui really unlocked our midfield, I know we won the 2018 grand final without both of them, but the 6,6,6 rule wasn't in place in 2018. Look at Brisbane and Sydney and even Fremantle with there rucks, winning the ball out of the centre and in stoppages has never been more important. Our ruck situation is probably the worst I have seen. We really do need an A grade ruckman to unlock our next midfield.

Of course we need a skilled ruckman. But the mids are a few years away. Concerned about Barnett being any good in 2 years time Jury out on Flynn but he is clearly injury prone.

Loved the video. Anyone involved in the drafting from 13-20 shouldn’t have a job. Absolutely shocking.
It’s so dire when you look at it all written down. Sadly been badly let down by senior players dropping off a cliff.
The thing people I don’t think grasp is, we haven’t actually attempted to rebuild - we have just used our allocated draft picks. We haven’t traded players to bring in a higher than average amount of young players in.
Sadly we must trade Barass to get more picks.Ryan too.
Sheed, Darling, cripps traded for anything you can get, or either delisted or made sure they only play wafl so we can get more eyes on young players and get them to that 50-70 game mark.

Eagles didn't want to receive draft picks in the 50s for Darling Sheed Gaff etc... Of course they would have been ripped off. But they need to change their thinking. They are desperate for draft picks. If they give up a Ryan for pick 45 then that may need to happen. In 3 years time he'll be retired or broken. But an 18 year old will be 21 by then and hopefully be the future of the club. Stop thinking value for money and instead focus on bringing in draft picks that can be packaged for lower picks or traded for players.

@@grantsmith505 Sheed should have been traded last year for a pick in the 50s say... every little bit counts when the EAgles are trying to bring in more draft picks. Sheed to be honest has missed a lot of footy for the last 2 years and basically missed preseason and the first third of the year. So not surprised he'd struggle. The question is whether his injuries are behind him firstly. Secondly, if he's fit whether he can deliver. You need to remember that even when he was in his prime he wasn't a front line midfielder and would play on half forward or the bench. So at 29 with injury interrupted preseason and season you don't suddenly get better.

Incorporating Tim English in the ruck is crucial, given his ability to dominate the contest and provide first use of the ball to the midfielders. Adding two experienced players in their prime would bolster the team’s depth and bring additional leadership on and off the field. Great analysis and presentation of the different aspects of the list. but I think you may be a little rosy on our current situation. The lack of prime players and limited drafting is significantly less than the last rebuild atm. Plus the number of players that got delisted last year who had been on our list for 3+ years was such a waste of time, resources and development. The list management has been horrendous and I look forward to how the eagles approach the next trade period with a proven list manager at the helm.
I see next year, similar to this year where we may play veterans too many times but with the result of being slightly more competitive. After next year, Cripps, gov, darling, gaff, (maybe sheed) likely all gone. And so 2026 will be the bottom out year. Just before tassie comes in. I am concerned but always optimistic that it will turn around quickly. 💙💛

The eagles also have a good chance of snagging a few late round picks, instead of delisting players, try and trade them off, for 3rd, 4th, 5th rounders. They could off load those late picks to the lions, for there 1st round pick, so they can bid on Ashcroft or Fletcher, one of the younger brothers who is rated extremely highly. that would give us 2 first rounders and a 2nd rounder, maybe off load Barrass to the Dogs for a 1st rounder. That could give us 4 picks inside the top 30, that's a good start. If a team is desperate for a certain player, we may unlock some pick splitting, which could lead to maybe 3 x 1st rounders, 2 x 2nd rounders. I'm sure with this being Pykes first time in charge during the post season activities he will try to be creative. Also remember, O'brien who has done a terrible job drafting and trading in the past few years (except for Harley) is gone, and we have the former recruiter from the Tigers.

they should have got rid of Sheed Darling Gaff as a pick for a pick in the 40s last year... plus any more you can think of. Of course its a rip off, but Eagles priority is getting draft picks. Even if we offload guys and pay their salaries for them to play elsewhere then its fine. We need draft picks pure and simple. But do we offload Barrass and Ryan and then pick up a lot of their salary. That could give us a first round and second round pick if we paid a lot of their salaries.

The Eagles were still a good team in 2010 and should have been 8 to 10 on the ladder, possibly playing finals. But some key players had to go (or had issues) and there was more focus on lifestyle choices and leadership than there was on football in those years. Also, the dramas of 2007 to 2010 took its toll. You could also argue that key players and coaching staff were exhausted from it all. Certainly players resented others that had misbehaved for a number of years. But the players were strong. Currently, the older guys are actually at veteran stage and are our best players still. But they're well past their prime. The kids are at least 3-5 years from reaching their prime and even then probably only half will ever make it. So we'll need lots of draft picks to keep bringing guys through.

In Saints match, you had six guys that didn't show up and they were all small mids-forwards (Cripps had a bad one too). Unforgiveable. Six of those guys (excl Brock) were poor and couldn't lay a tackle. Put them back to WAFL and see if they get hungry. Remember Jones didn't even put his arm up. They'll keep coming up with names and if a guy says they're not interested then its a lead story that its a rejection. Until the next specultion... All the talk is Buckly now... ridiculous. Why would he leave Melbourne and come to Perth. If Port was available he'd chase that job anyway.

I think we may have to pay their salayr at the Dockers too to get any deal done.

3-5yrs is how far away I see the eagles to being competitive enough to push mid ladder or any kind of finals seriously.
From a North perspective a rebuild can effectively start anew when its a new coach. And sadly we North fans know that painfully too well.
Reid, Barass, Allen, Waterman and Meric IMO are your most promising of players moving forward. There's a few other's not far behind but the ones I've mentioned are the outliers.
WC'S injury predicaments are in better hands now and I'd arguably say it's a 2-3yr stint of bringing in new recruits of any kind that will greatly influence the eagles rebuild. The veterans days are understandably done and MUST be phased out, sooner than later. With tassie looming the longer that phase out takes, the more vulnerable WC can be when replacing those list spots.
The ither key component is coach. WC need an experienced head coach. For the rebuild your about to effectively re-start you'll need someone to build a new gameplan, restructure the line-ups with the escalating on the go build with the cattle you have and will get and most importantly, you'll need the security to get that job done in good faith.
New coaches don't survive rebuilds and David Kings words haven't been far off the mark in recent history. IF WC don't get this right soone it could seriously derail the club into something dire and the only upside to it is exposure of the higher ups of the club being IMO the more pressing issue ahead of Simpson.

I think WC should get assistance from the AFL like North got with 2 end of first round picks, but will not get any due to winning the flag in 2018

We should not be trading for the likes of baker. We need the young talent, especially with tassie coming in. We dont have ebough talent and when we are in a premiership window in 5 years, baker will be just about retired.

Its not our job to analyse West Coast's club rebuild and I think its better not to have footy content uploaded to UA-cam and especially those without any professional AFL background. The anxiety and depression issues people are increasingly experiencing now, doesn't get improved from any personal form of involvement undertaken, for the subject of which one can't change outcomes and earn significant income. I have been a Eagles fan for about 35 years and played front yard imagination land AFL as a child for the Eagles and can't recall anything specifically regarding Guy McKenna and Mick Malthouse personally. The bottom line is the West Coast Eagles football club don't care about how this tragic 3 years has made fans feel and neither does the man himself who uploaded this content. The Eagles stint at the bottom of the ladder, shouldn't make individuals ponder how long they'll suck? But use it as opportunity to be with your kids or if need be? Practically improve oralsex skills to find your woman's rosebud instead 😊
