Absolutely useful Lee! Many thanks. I'm an older classic player who has never had the need to venture into tapping before. The technique of it is simple enough but the way you explained how your note selection works has given me an insight as to what is possible here and I can expand on that. This vid has definitely tickled my curiosity and I'm tempted to give it a go now.
Unreal!! I've never been explained how to do that..you see guys like Vido Bravo and Vai doing this and you're looking at it like what the hell are they doing..I have to use just one finger on these right now. But I'm hoping to develop the dexterity in my other finger to switch...
Lee isn't playing scales Filip he's using chord tones, so metioning a scale would be futile as Amin could be the 2 chord in G Maj, the 3 chord in F Maj and the 6 chord in C maj. He's also offering us the tab so not sure how much simpler it could be?? I've just received the tab (thanks Lee!) and it's really straight forward. Maybe you should try that?...just a suggestion
I use the index and middle. It feels more natural to me and they are the strongest of the fingers. Not criticizing as you are doing quite well, but for others, it may be easier.
None of the tapping videos I have seen show you what technique to actually tap! How much sustain and compression is needed? Do you glance off the strings with an up or down motion. What gauge strings are needed? Getting tapping volume is crucial, stuff like this is almost a doddle compared to the undisclosed technique of getting a decent tapping volume.
I flick downwards..but to be honest on a electric guitar with distortion just lifting your finger off the string will usually be enough to sound the note being held down with the fretting hand
Tabs: Guitar tapping arpeggio String : fret : (finger left hand) / (t = tapping finger right hand) A minor arpeggio exercise * i use 3 and 2 to avoid 4 and 3 bc pinkies are for stretches n they no agile E : 5 (1) 8 (3) 12 (t) Skip A string D: 5 (1) 7 (2) 10 (t) Skip G string B: 5 (1) 8 (3) 10 (t) * Alt version to practice pinky power E : 5 (1) 8 (4) 12 (t) Skip A string D: 5 (1) 7 (3) 10 (t) Skip G string B: 5 (1) 8 (4) 10 (t) A major exercise * will wanna use *4th finger* to stretch to a maj 3rd interval on E string E : 5 (1) 9 (4) 12 (t) Skip A string D: 6 (2) 7 (3) 11 (t) Skip G string B: 5 (1) 9 (4) 10 (t)
im getting in to tapping arpeggios now and i dont get them from tabs or anything, im doing them by hearing, matching notes. but yeah when your doing those speed runs they are way too complicated to figure them out playing them slow without knowing anything about scales your playing.
Why the hell is everyone asking for tabs? He takes so much time showing every single note! Hey Lee can you come over to my house and play it for me too.
Why tap the arp's? It doesn't make them more musical sounding unless you want the effect to sound like the Atari computer game of old or those gambling coin machines in Las Vegas. It's purely seems a technique to show off to other players....
Some sweeps sound that way to ya know! Its the player who makes it musical, and the technique is a conduit to your musical art. It simply does not matter what the technique is, as long as you, the musician, are making music of it all. Why get hung up on the right and the wrong way. I'm sure Picasso was criticized a bit with that cubism technique!!!

Bravoooo!
Hey I come from the future, now you work for Ibanez guitars, great lesson btw

You use compression and finger strength.
And you flick off with your right hand and pinky. And with your index you slap the string. That's it.
Well thanks you are the first person to suggest compression and the flick -it makes sense but this isn't mentioned in a lot of videos.
I flick downwards..but to be honest on a electric guitar with distortion just lifting your finger off the string will usually be enough to sound the note being held down with the fretting hand

Why the hell is everyone asking for tabs? He takes so much time showing every single note! Hey Lee can you come over to my house and play it for me too.
The lesson is good but keep it short.
Still why the fuck not to start sequence with tapping the lowest note which avoids hammer out of nowhere?
are u using pedals to get the distortion through the amp
Why tap the arp's? It doesn't make them more musical sounding unless you want the effect to sound like the Atari computer game of old or those gambling coin machines in Las Vegas. It's purely seems a technique to show off to other players....
you can get a full 3 octaves with tapping.
not with any other technique.
sweeping can only realistically get you 2 octaves.
unless you're a wizard.
