The gallon zip-top idea is one that I have used for quite a while. The only thing I would change is that I would NOT use a reusable one, but the cheap disposable ones you can buy at any grocery store. The reason for this is that whatever was in or, as you said, may still be at the bottom of those seat-back pouches is now going to be transferred to the outside bottom of your Ziploc bag. When you put that Ziploc bag back in your backpack you've just moved all the junk you were hoping to avoid into your backpack. I've even taken to double-bagging, simply removing the inner one and leaving the other one for the cleaning crew to dispose of.
Most airlines now count purses and tiny Fanny packs as extra carryon, so if you carry either, make sure you pack purses &/or Fanny pack in the top of your carryon luggage to get thru the gate. You can take it out as soo as you’re seated in the plane.
There are sometimes some passengers forget their jacket at the TSA when a TSA asked you to take off your jacket to put it in a bin. So many times passengers forgot their jackets in the bin and leave. Don’t put your passport and wallet in inside your jacket. It’s safe to put it in your personal item. Love the packing tips and the bag.
BTW, you are right! The physical act of writing stuff down DOES activate a part of your brain for memory. When I started playing a musical instrument at age 61, I hand-wrote chords out and I think that's really helped me remember hundreds of chords. I"m 69 now.
I have learned from experience to put a pair of pjs in with my extra set of clothes. They don’t add much weight but are so nice to have if the airlines puts you up in a hotel due to a cancelled flight. I also carry my meds in my personal item for that same reason as well. I also carry a small hairbrush.
I just found you & I enjoyed this video. I’m like you, I take a mechanical pencil & a pen along with a tablet & a book. The bag is nice but being a senior, I don’t want a backpack. It is probably heavy, so I would want wheels. The only time I travel now is when I’m going on a cruise so I put everything I’d need on the ship until my luggage arrives- sunscreen, bathing suit, hat, OTC meds & regular meds I take daily. I love the collapsible water bottle, but I take a yetti knock off cup that will keep my drinks cold if I’m sitting by the pool- then use it to put coffee in when room service brings coffee in the am so I don’t have to add creamer each time in those little cups. I fill the “yetti” & only have to add the creamer once, then carry it around with me on the ship. In the past I admit I thought handkerchiefs were gross but my husband always carries them & I always need to use it, so I started keeping one with me. You don’t have to find a place to throw it away, the cloth absorbs better than the Kleenex & holds more. & it dries out quickly. I take one for everyday of my trip. Once I tried it, I’ll never go back to Kleenex. I hope this helps other cruisers.
I just got my Lovevook back pack in preparation for our trip to Europe this fall. I ordered the smaller size (15.6) so that it will fit under the seat of the european airlines that we will be using. It was so helpful to see you pack this and to get your packing list download. I'm an information junkie, and this is making me feel more comfident about our first ever trip to Europe. Thank you!
No, you're not alone I am a writer / author and I always write everything down in a binder first then I transfer it to a computer. And I love paper books. Never did like the Kindle. Love your videos, We are flying to Israel. Israel in November.
For me snacks are super important. I have major food anxiety so I’m very fussy and when I get hungry I feel faint so I always take a lot of healthy snacks that I’m very familiar with so I’m calm knowing I have access to food I can eat
It's really not. That's why it's so awesome! It's the size of a backpack. I got one like that but I also got the one that opens flat like a suitcase and a backpack. They are great bags. I "need" one more
I’m so sorry the link for the packing list isn’t working… travel & technology 😂. Currently I’m waiting to board a flight to Korea, as soon as I get settled and have reliable WiFi I’ll get that fixed and sent to those of you who asked for it… So, so sorry for the inconvenience!!!
I have heard of the gallon zip-top in the seat back pocket, but I like your use of the reusable with orange top. In the rush of leaving, you'll see that orange standout against most airline décor.
I was once chastised by security in London for having non-liquid items in my liquid bag. They made me remove them before they would check the contents. They also did not accept the US size vinyl liquid bag (with “TSA Approved” right on the front) and handed me a tiny bag to transfer everything. Lesson learned - now I pack everything in a quart bag (not too tight) and put that bag into my sturdier vinyl travel bag.
TSA is only American, and the UK has their own rules and restrictions. The last time I was there they handed me their own bag to use, and I had to dump the contents of my own ziplock into it. I'm fine with that, but now when I land there I usually ask for one so that I am packed in that bag for the trip home and don't have to transfer anything while standing in the security line. The quart size Ziploc bag used in the states is actually slightly larger then the bags issued in the UK -all the more reason not to overpack your liquids.
I’m a baby boomer who still dreams of a lot of travels. Just subbed because my son does a lot of business traveling and I plan to tag along once in a while
Hi Genx, because I love the pockets and layout of the Lovevook backpack, but I cannot wear a backpack, I decided to change the backpack to have a removable, adjustable cross body strap which will be of much more use to me. Just thought you might be interested in what I have done. Love your video on how to pack the Lovevook bag, very helpful. Thank you.
The “framework “ of the backpack that holds it open is brilliant. I hate struggling with the bag staying open when try to pack or removing items while traveling.
I got that backpack after you showed it in a previous video. I love it! The straps are so sturdy, padded and comfortable - even when it is heavy. I'm a knitter. I recently packed two knitting projects (an almost finished tee and a hat with yarn, needles, and notions), a laptop and charger, a tablet, charging cords, portable charger, large yeti tumbler, and my small crossbody purse with wallet, phone, keys, etc into it for a weekend trip. I was shocked that it held all of that. Thank you so much for recommending it!
Thanks for the good tips. I also include a bag for snacks/fruits and add to the liquid bag or have another bag with OTC cold prevention supplements, such as airborne, electrolytes, vitamin C powder, motion sickness, throat lozenges, nose sprays, and lots of moisturizing cream. On our last flight, I was glad I had my cold prevention supplements because I started coughing, and I was able to prevent a full-blown cold from coming. I like the Calpak Luka 15-inch backpack. It's roomy and fits underneath the seat and it is stylish, lightweight, and feels good to carry around.
If I am checking a bag I think I would put my tripods in my suitcase. Also next trips check out Whisps, a small tooth brush with tooth paste and no rinse. Great for traveling and freshing up.
Great job. I enjoy your videos. Learn every time .watch . I hope to soon be able to travel. My Husband has one more surgery left this year. Hoping in June we will be traveling.
I have the black Pacsafe crossbody/backpack. Just returned from med cruise and felt very secure using it. Hubby was even comfortable sharing in carrying. Would like to see in a beige color.
Girl, you're so amazing. I love watching your videos. You're so real and informative. I always look forward to what's next. You inspire me. I want to do some solo traveling in 2024 if I can keep my health on track. My fingers crossed 🤞 Thank you, my friend, for all you do for us. Happy trails to us all. ❤
This was so interesting to see how you pack your bag! I really like that bag! It looks huge!! I really liked seeing what you put into your liquids bag. I'm in the process of packing for a trip to Scotland. We leave in 3 days! So your tips really help. Thank you!!❤❤
I’ve used Timeshifter on a few trip, this summer when I was in Europe. I am always amazed to find that I have little to no jet lag depending on how much I stick to the plan. I love it! Because I always end up last minute packing, I usually have to miss a bit of the Timeshifter plan the day before my flight. 😅
13:23 A Kindle does need to be pulled out along with laptops. It’s bigger (wider) than an iPhone. I learned the hard way. I usually take it out with my laptop/iPad, however, on one trip, I completely forgot about it, and didn’t pull it out. I got held up at TSA security while they searched my bag and put it through scanner multiple times as they couldn’t find what was setting off scanner. After 20 minutes of this (and them setting my bag aside for a while), I started to lose patience. I was pretty embarrassed when it was finally found in a slip pocket. Small enough to carry around and get lost in the bag… big enough to cause headaches. Thank goodness I wasn’t running late for my flight!
Great minds think alike. I pack my personal bag with similar items. #1 - Is mediations both prescription and OTC, travel toothbrush and toothpaste, which thankfully take up little space. I always take a small tube of neosporin or equivalent even if it's an overnight trip. One time I cut my finger on an excursion and the people at the location did nothing to help me. So I actually travel with hand sanitizer wipes, neosporin and a few bandaids. I hate being air-conditioner cold, so I always bring a light jacket and or sweater. For entertainment I also always bring a paper notebook (but a small size one) and multiple pens just to jot my thoughts. I bring my phone and ipad (for long trips) but I like to be able to handwrite notes. For entertainment, I bring wireless and wire headphones/buds, download movies and show from streaming services onto my ipad, and my trusty little Kindle. I liked you bag, except for the leathery straps. Those just seem like something to get caught on. My travel backpack is padded and has zipped compartments. The other thing I don't like about mine is that is doesn't have a strap in the back for sitting on the suitcase. However, I did buy a belt for that purpose, and hope it woks well.
I always have a backpack and a cross over bag. I don’t pack much for 4 days trip. It started when I was going back and forth for school . But travel is such a hassle lately . Thanks this will be helpful .
I just bought that fan based on seeing you have one! Didn’t realise it could also be used as back up power pack. Brilliant! Also, yes, I love handwritten notes as well
look forward to hearing more about your trip! i always pack a few doggie bags to dispose of any personal trash i generate, ginger chews for an upset stomach and cough drops for that annoying tickle when everyone is trying to sleep! safe travels!
So happy to come across your video Christy. Im going on a long haul flight to India in a couple of weeks . Ive just downloaded your pdf list for packing. Awesome. Great help. Thank you so much. Will be binging on the rest of your videos. ❤
I just ordered the back pack for an upcoming flight/cruise to NYC/New England/Canada. I ordered red/black. I need a backpack for excursions anyway soooooo this will do nicely. Glad I saw your video.
My personal items go in my jacket pockets. Phone and glasses. Tomorrow, only a 2 hour return flight. 😆 Back here watching you to get ideas for my 2 week Vietnam holiday next month. Went to UK last Oct and France in May. Your ideas are always so practical. 😊
I love LOVEVOOK backpacks. I carry one almost every day and recently bought a new updated version for traveling. It holds everything from my computer, notebooks & files to a travel umbrella. I even have 2 sets of clothes in compression cubes and a Turkish towel in case of an accident/ emergency in the bottom.
That liquids bag looks huge! I have a 1 liter bag which is required for Air France and many European airports, and it is nowhere near this large. A 1 quart zip lock (US TSA sized) is only slightly larger than the 1 liter.
So glad I found your videos, you have a friendly, authentic style with great information. Love my LOVEVOOK, added an inexpensive dog collar to hold my jacket when I get hot and I use all clear containers so I can see things easier. Hope you are having a great trip.
I have that in pink and love it! Mine didn't come with an extra pouch though. I keep a quick pull-out pack in the front deep zippered pocket that contains everything for the plane seat back. It helps me avoid holding up others boarding. Loving your hair too.
You should have double gallon Ziploc bags, for items for seatback, so when you remove it from the seatback pocket, you can leave the outter bag in the seat back pocket, that has potential undesirable material on it , and remove the inner CLEAN bag, back into your carry on bag!!
Thanks for the detailed explanation. A lot of that i would want. But for me as a insulin dependent person who also has scads of medications , I`d need another substantial bag just for them. Last time I flew my husband collapsed in Chicago and luggage went on to our destination. I had a 2 day supply in the bags with us but by the time we reacquired the luggage I lost an entire month's supply if insulin. I also need incontinence supplies. I'm rethinking flying as a 70 yo. Senior citizen.
Such a helpful video. I need that backpack!! Thanks 😊 Warning: make sure your bags are not over the weight limit. I had to remove stuff at the last minute for a checked suitcase and hand it all to my brother who ended up losing most of it. It was a medical trip but the airline could not have cared less.
I found American and Canadian airlines not too concerned about weight. But in South Africa, airlines are pretty strict. Yr carry on bag is 7 kg only. Stick to the weight.
So happy to find some new ideas and gear here. I love my zip lock silicone backs too. Great idea for using in the seat pouch. I ordered the charger as I've been wanting to update mine.
Always have trouble organizing into smaller bags in the personal item bag. Great tips and ideas! Would be interesting in a review in how the bar lotion and other items normally travel in liquids hold up in a solid form😊
I started using a soap bar instead of liquid, and I put mine in an empty “Extra” gum plastic box, the kind that hold 35 sticks of gum. It holds my half-way used bar of soap perfectly.
If you go watch my Japan Travel Day vlog I have some video of me wearing the backpack, it's been super comfortable even packed full 😊. ua-cam.com/video/ukH3Oef_JLs/v-deo.htmlsi=jNtunYHUNqBWuGmd
I have been asked to separate my kindle from my personal ítem bag several times on flights in Europe. Hope you are enjoying Japan. My trip there was cancelled during Covid.
Love the idea of leaving your computer out of the sleeve until after going through security. Personally, I would be wearing the compression socks and packing the things for sleeping at the top of the bag. Also great idea of a bag for “back of the seat pocket” items…but will double bag with disposable bags and then carry a few extra disposable bags in my checked bag for the flights home.
Thank you so much for your demo of packing the Lovevook bag, I have just had one delivered today and I can tell it’s going to be great for my 24 hour flight from the UK to Australia.
I'm going to Japan in two weeks! This is our second trip, the first being last hear. We LOVE it. Thank you for the wonderful tips. JAL has wonderful blankets and neck pillows for all passengers. And the aircraft is kept VERY clean. Hope you have a great time!!
i suggest packing the clothes standing up so it can be pulled out mid-flight incase the child behind you projectile vomits on your shirt or the person beside you dumps coffee on you (ask me how I know)
Loving your videos!!! Looking forward to packing for my first international trip. I found a cheaper option to get your bluetooth headphones to work, its a three in one wireless receiver and transmitter. I am hoping it works for the airplane! I will know in a few months though 😂
I use a mz wallace medium metro tote deluxe for my personal item. Holy Grail travel bag for sure, mainly the organizatinal and hidden pockets. Also there is a luggage sleeve ❤
So thankful I’ve found your channel! I’m going on a girl’s cruise in May 2024 and we will be flying on Air France. They have a very strict carry-on/personal item policy and I’m wondering if you happened to have weighed your backpack with all of these items in it?
I am so glad I found your channel as I am also going to Japan in a few days. I started to lay out my capsule wardrobe and get my personal item prepared also. I also love using a doctor bag backpack, it’s so convenient. Thank you for the inspiration and I look forward to watching all of your videos 😊.
Fun!! I hope you love Japan as much as I do. I will warn you it has been hot and humid, but if you're coming from Hawaii I don't think that will be an issue for you 😂
Yes, you absolutely have to take out your 10" Kindle! I have had to take it out for every flight I've been on for the last ten years. The only electronics you don't have to take out is your phone.
I just found your channel! Your tips and recommendations are great. Especially the ziplock bag😊 I really like Travel Wipes instead of the wipe packs. They don’t dry out. Have a great time in Japan!
thank you for this video! you have some great tips and ideas. May I ask please about the navy blue tech bag? I've been looking for one that size and style? TIA :)
Very helpful, Christy! I have ordered many of the items you’ve recommended for a long haul flight but now seeing how you pack them is so helpful for me! We leave for our trip in 20 days!! WooHoo!!!!
My backpack is very similar but not identical. The zippered pouch on the back is horizontal across the whole bag and is deep. The front zippered pocked above the flap is curved.
Thank you for your video! I've just subscribed to your channel. I don't fly a lot, but generally I do try to go between my current home in a Wrinkle-in-the-Outskirts of Paris and my old stomping grounds in southeastern North Carolina. My favorite tip is the gallon sized Ziploc bag for the seatback pocket. I know over the years I've left a good pen and a couple of other things in those pockets. As someone has already suggested, the reusable bag with a color strip is a good idea to get our attention, but I also like the idea of double bagging and throwing away the outer one that comes into contact with the yucky stuff in the pocket. Hope you had/are having a great trip to Japan!
Yes you will be asked to take out your kindle. I had my bag checked twice, and me, not thinking that a Kindle was an electronic device, cause all I do is download, Wes told in no uncertain terms the Kindle is an electronic device.
So interesting! I've traveled with my kindle for almost 10 years now and I've never been asked to pull it out. In the early days I even asked and they said no 🤷🏻♀. Just another example of how every TSA is different and it's just good to be prepared 😊
Enjoyed your video. Planning my trip for 2025 with carryon only and have saved this video. Great tips! On another note, what is the paint color on your walls? Pretty 😊

What size is your personal item bag? There are 3 sizes (15.6, 17.3, and 18)
@@mjtraggis4139 It is the 17.3" one 😊
The gallon zip-top idea is one that I have used for quite a while. great idea. double bag!
I prefer disposable ziplocks too
I like the sturdiness of the reusable bags. Use a Clorox wipe to wipe down the bag before putting it back in your backpack.
Same. Double bag.

Yes - I had a very thin crossbody for my ID and phone that they wanted to count as my personal item. and had to "hide" it by wearing it behind me!
Just know that 'fanny' has a different 'rude' meaning in UK, Australia and NZ.
Thanks for that very helpful tip!
Writing is how we learned, and in cursive. Not letting that go, I am a little rebellious being a gen xr. 😉
If I weren't allowed to write in cursive I'd pull my hair out! I'm not about to let it go.
I'm a paper and pen gal too. Studies show that writing things down helps you remember so you are totally right about that.

I love my lovenook backpack. So versatile….business, travel, leisure
I just got one also and it is so nice. Great Quality and all the same features, but with a zipped top and combo lock at the top instead.🤩
Does it fit under the seat? It looks large.
@marylaird8062 yes it does. Sometimes it sticks out a bit but bring soft sided...it's flexible

Thank you!!❤❤
I am going to Scotland this Monday. 8/12/24
I hope your trip to Japan goes well & no worries!🙏🏻🤞🏻
This video was very nicely done.
Brilliant! Also, yes, I love handwritten notes as well
Do you have a link for that glasses case? That looks nifty!!
LOL I have been googling to try and find the double glasses case too! Have not found it yet.
I bought this bag on a whim. So glad. It’s like Mary Poppins! lol!
My Dearest!Hats off to you!I am surprised you're such an organised person!Really enjoyed watching the video! Thanks a ton
I have the same brand backpack only in black. I love it, especially the frame.
look forward to hearing more about your trip! i always pack a few doggie bags to dispose of any personal trash i generate, ginger chews for an upset stomach and cough drops for that annoying tickle when everyone is trying to sleep! safe travels!
So happy to come across your video Christy. Im going on a long haul flight to India in a couple of weeks . Ive just downloaded your pdf list for packing. Awesome. Great help. Thank you so much. Will be binging on the rest of your videos. ❤
I just bought this back pack as well and it was so helpful to see how you packed it and what you packed:)
Back here watching you to get ideas for my 2 week Vietnam holiday next month. Went to UK last Oct and France in May. Your ideas are always so practical. 😊
Thanks!
It always amazes me how much people can pack! Mine never look like that’s😂
What a great idea using an inexpensive dog collar to hold your jacket!!
Wow! That's a lot of stuff for a flight.
Nah, she didn't show the snack bag, the medicine bag or the other "what if" stuff you bring with you
I have that in pink and love it! Mine didn't come with an extra pouch though. I keep a quick pull-out pack in the front deep zippered pocket that contains everything for the plane seat back. It helps me avoid holding up others boarding. Loving your hair too.
I always take a bag with snacks in my personal item bag so I don't have to buy them at the airport.
Amen!
Me too!
👍👍All it takes is one 3+ hour delay where you can't leave the plane to add at least a couple of granola bars to your "must pack" list.
Unless you’re sitting next to the muncher! Really if you need a snack and can’t hold off eating for 4-5 hours, I feel for you.
Love your pillow case.
The airlines can be fairly accommodating for "special needs" . You can request wheelchair access and pre-boarding and whisk thru TSA.
Such a helpful video. I need that backpack!! Thanks 😊
Warning: make sure your bags are not over the weight limit.
@@shumathievandayar3246 Allegiant Airlines can be pretty strict on weight, but they have weight limits on carryons, but not on personal items.
I need a personal bag for my upcoming trip, and I really like that one! Thanks for the link.
You're welcome 😊. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have!
Aquifer is great in place of Vaseline and neosporine
Oh yes!! I always forget about aquaphor!!
So happy to find some new ideas and gear here. I love my zip lock silicone backs too. Great idea for using in the seat pouch. I ordered the charger as I've been wanting to update mine.
I found this helpful and I love some of the links to products. Great job 👍🙏🎉
Always have trouble organizing into smaller bags in the personal item bag. Great tips and ideas! Would be interesting in a review in how the bar lotion and other items normally travel in liquids hold up in a solid form😊
My bar lotion is in a metal container, so it holds up very nicely...I've been using it a lot this trip!
I started using a soap bar instead of liquid, and I put mine in an empty “Extra” gum plastic box, the kind that hold 35 sticks of gum. It holds my half-way used bar of soap perfectly.
Great video, thank you for the tips.
I wanted to see the backpack on after it was packed to see how it hangs. You were able to pack a lot in there.
If you go watch my Japan Travel Day vlog I have some video of me wearing the backpack, it's been super comfortable even packed full 😊. ua-cam.com/video/ukH3Oef_JLs/v-deo.htmlsi=jNtunYHUNqBWuGmd
Thanks! So organized & helpful!
Great tips - love the bag for the seat back pocket! Thanks for sharing!
I have been asked to separate my kindle from my personal ítem bag several times on flights in Europe. Hope you are enjoying Japan. My trip there was cancelled during Covid.
Oh no!! I hope you get to reschedule it, I love Japan 😊
Hi, please is hair gel and hair creams allowed in european airports?
Love the idea of leaving your computer out of the sleeve until after going through security. Personally, I would be wearing the compression socks and packing the things for sleeping at the top of the bag. Also great idea of a bag for “back of the seat pocket” items…but will double bag with disposable bags and then carry a few extra disposable bags in my checked bag for the flights home.
definitely WEARING the compression socks.... ever tried putting them on in the restricted seat space? DON'T !
I love that you think of everything. I love all your content and I hope you have a great time in Japan
i suggest packing the clothes standing up so it can be pulled out mid-flight incase the child behind you projectile vomits on your shirt or the person beside you dumps coffee on you (ask me how I know)
Oh no!! I've had the coffee dumped before, but luckily I've avoided the vomit... ugh, so sorry!!
14:47 actually in new aircrafts, mainly used by Asian and Arab airlines, you can connect your headphones by Bluetooth directly
Loving your videos!!! Looking forward to packing for my first international trip. I found a cheaper option to get your bluetooth headphones to work, its a three in one wireless receiver and transmitter. I am hoping it works for the airplane! I will know in a few months though 😂
Love your videos!
I use a mz wallace medium metro tote deluxe for my personal item. Holy Grail travel bag for sure, mainly the organizatinal and hidden pockets. Also there is a luggage sleeve ❤
I travel with pens, sharpies and a highlighter.
I always have those packed plus a mechanical pencil.
I could not open your packing list. Love your chanel❤
Just fixed the link and sent out an email with the correction, please let me know if you don't receive it! So sorry for the technical difficulties 😊
I have two of those backpacks. Gave my daughter one as a diaper bag.
I love watching you😁
Aww, thank you! ❤️
Enjoy your trip!
Have an amazing trip!❤
I have the same bag and love it! Very comfortable as a backpack too, with tons of compartments
WooHoo!!!!
Safe travels 😊…thanks for sharing your packing tips, I will be traveling to Europe in November and I got some great ideas from your video ❤
This was such a helpful video!!!
My backpack is very similar but not identical. The zippered pouch on the back is horizontal across the whole bag and is deep. The front zippered pocked above the flap is curved.
Thanks for the great idea ❤
Great video! Loved it! I am a notebook girl too! Funny question…how much does this backpack weigh and is it vaguely waterproof? Thank you
TSA pre check is usually open for me.
I am going to be buying the same backpack in the color purple purple from the brand loveook
Purple is so fun, I love it 😊
Enjoyed your video. Planning my trip for 2025 with carryon only and have saved this video. Great tips! On another note, what is the paint color on your walls? Pretty 😊
Enjoy your trip in Japan..
