  • The Kargil aggression by the Pakistani Army in the summer of 1999 is a watershed in more ways than one. Not only did India successfully hound the intruders, thanks to the exemplary valour displayed by our troops, but also took major steps to plug the loopholes in its security infrastructure after a comprehensive review was undertaken. How did India go about it? What were the reforms that were carried out? In this episode of ‘Simply Nitin’, StratNews Global Editor-in-Chief Nitin A. Gokhale answers all these questions and more.

Hi Nithin as always great analysis and information. I have a question related to this topic on lessons learnt by India. With both China and Pakistan colluding so openly against India, why not India get out of No-first-use policy. What does India even get out of this No-first-use policy? Can India even afford to stick to this policy on the face of defeat? Does this mean Indian government can face defeat and loose its people and territory than defend itself? Why this moral ground when India has existential threat from China and Pakistan? Am I missing something here? What will be implications if Indian government publicly abandons No-first-use policy? Probably content for next analysis?

It can create misunderstanding between us and enemies. If situation escalates, they can use it first thinking we are preparing to launch on them. This will immediately trigger all non-stop destruction.

What steps have India taken to protect itself from pre-emptive attack? Nothing! This is something which our two hostile neighbours have done repeatedly and we have always responded after the fact. Why does this happen everytime to the Indian Government who are caught sleeping in the face of constant threat?

Sir would you or could you like to inform the nation about the situation of Bangladesh on the context of the conversation between Priya saha and Donald trump and a speech of our ex army chief about Assam politics. I think national media is intentionally over looking it. It's in air that Some thing trying to cook in Cox bazaar and along the indo-bengladesh border especially network centric Jamat business like hakkani network. I think you believe in prevention is better then cure.

No doubt India has come a long way since Kargil, but one thing which hasn't changed till Galwan has been its political will across party lines. You can create strong organisations, but they will have to get political approvals and free hand along with sufficient financial backing. We show political will now when it comes to pakistan. But we need to show similar attitude towards china, not just militarily, but on multiple fronts including economics. There is unprecedented opposition towards china throughout the world and we need to make the most of it. pakistan is a mere irritant and more it takes actions w.r.t terrorism, it'll expose itself. We need to have a globally inclusive strategy for china, something which demands political will.

India learnt...the best oxymoronic statement I have come across in quite some time. We never learn, we simply more forward with our old ways corruption and inefficiency. India goes on as it was. I seriously think that we are perfect candidate for middle income trap. Future looks hopeless.

Nitin sir this is good to hear but on ground we still se reactive approach rather than proactive prevention. Now some forward movement by the enemy was done and we reacted to stop them buy have lost some ground which shows our lack of preparation for such situations..
    we were caugt napping.
Also we haven't achieved self reliance in befence manufacturing and don't hope to see that in next few decads as we don't hold hand of our local industry. we want the best from the west but the west also started with not the best and grew to be the best. why don't be have a long term plan, executive it in phases. Don't go for competition loose some industry leaders and give them money, technology ability to collaborate with defence labs, take overs overseas and orders for 1st gen, 2nd gen and build up. These emergency purchases due to your slow tendering, bureaucracy is going to kill you and our pride, solders it is a shame on us. The bureaucrats and politicians should face the enemy with the inferior materials then lets see how they behave.

The momentum created was lost during the 10 year UPA antinational govt. They not only did nothing but created an ambiance letting down our armed forces. If we could stop chaina it's because of the effort by Modiji govt since 2014. Not caught napping, we were alert.

I don't think we have learnt any bit. After every debacle we pretend for some time that we are serious in addressing our lapses. But, after sometime we are back to square one. Politicians of this country are so morally degraded and mentally degenerated that nothing substantial has happened or will happen. We have lost our legs to stand on and now we are looking for American prosthetic legs but history had taught us that these pair of legs look glittering cost too much and fails at every crunch moment. Modi ji ki jai ho!!
P.S. : I have my doubts about top Military leadership. 🙏🇮🇳
