We did it guys! A dedicated CvS episode! Hell yeah! 🙌
Look momma we made it😂
Now we need a Wargods episode.

CvS2 was a lightning bolt when it hit.
What's wild is that it released on September 11, 2001.
We pre-order imported it for our Dreamcasts but due to all flights being grounded due to the attacks there was no chance that we were getting our import shipped to us in the States for weeks.
Thanks to the pirate scene, though, my crew were playing it that very night of release.
The game helped to soften the reverberations of the tragedy for a lot of FGC members, as we had something to focus on that brought joy during such a dark time.
I'll always be thankful to Capcom vs. SNK 2 for that.
I remember hearing that happened. Not the best day of memory. At least it was still released. I played CvS2 on a friend's import console. Never will forget
Just happened to be watching this today and Terry and Mai literally just got announced for SF6 lol. This aged like fine wine.
Ryu’s Life Hacks: Want to travel the world? Just walk. Ryu didn’t become a millionaire by paying for transportation
What do you think is in that giant bag he carries? Clothes? Naw son, it's his fat bag of cash.

@@zaneseibert exactly dont wanna get robbed!
Ryus is so rich that he can ride planes in barefoot....joking aside, capcom already said back then that ryu has a dayjob
Pretty sure Capcom said that he works at a Black-owned car wash.
So, to clarify on the artwork situation, CvS1 was a really strange mess on that front. Shinkiro and Daigo Ikeno were the artists for the Capcom characters, doing the SNK and Capcom groove art respectively. On the SNK side, Kinu Nishimura did the Capcom groove artwork, but for whatever reason, Shinkiro didn't do the artwork for the SNK groove art. It was Bengus (a Capcom artist) imitating Shinkiro's art style (Though Shinkiro stepped in to adjust the faces). The sole exception to this is Joe, who was drawn by Shinkiro alongside Dan for CvS Pro.
Wasn't it that capcom's artists did SNK art and viceversa as a sort of tribute to the other company?
@@TungstenViper That was CVS2
ua-cam.com/video/djcw5R4EQ30/v-deo.html
Yo, Kinu Nishimura's art for this game is LEGENDARY though. That Chun-Li & Sakura vs. Mai & Yuri promotional artwork may actually be the most iconic from the CvS2 era and it still gets posted and reposted to this day. The two different styles of artwork was a huge draw for me when I first played CvS on Dreamcast back in the early 2000's.
If this ever does happen, the new subtitle has to be “Comeback of the Millennium”
I played CvS in the arcade... the reason why we adopted it so quickly is because we had a lot of experience with the KoF series in particular (and World Heroes for me) so it took a short while to adjust. I think they did the four buttons to make it feel more familiar to SNK fans. At any rate I played SNK characters more than Capcom ones.
I
First off, I want to say: I love this channel and podcast immensely. For a variety of reasons (social anxiety, lack of money, suburban isolation, etc) I was never really able to get deep into fighting games, but at the request of some friends, I’ve started to dip my toe in & am having a blast so far. I love how you guys are able to have high level conversations about these games, while still being understandable; this feels far less jargon-heavy than other fighting game shows I’ve seen, but it manages to produce interesting and thoughtful discussion despite that. I also just appreciate how much energy and excitement you guys have; you aren’t dishonest when something annoys or disappoints you, but something about the way you guys banter leads to the vibe always coming off as fun instead of pessimistic or aggressive, and I really appreciate that. This is one of the few podcasts/shows I think I can genuinely file under “changed my life for the better”; I always come out of an episode smiling, and as someone with GAD and chronic depression, let me tell you, that is NOT an easy thing to accomplish.
Setting all that aside: I know you probably already have a massive backlog of requests and episode ideas, but there are a number of topics this pod has got me thinking about that I’d really love to hear your guys thoughts on. Obviously, I’m just a random idiot, don’t feel obligated to pay these any mind, but I thought I would share them anyway:
• Fighting Game Joke Characters: What are your favorite joke characters? Do you think it’s better when they are mechanically weak as a joke, or are actually competitive or fun to play, and just happen to be silly in concept/mechanics? Are there any joke characters that deserve to be made into “real” characters?
• Fighting Game Pet Characters: Taking this idea from a magic the gathering podcast where they talked about “pet cards”- cards that aren’t very good or competitive, but they still put in their decks because they have an emotional connection to them. Are there any characters you choose to play despite knowing they’re low tier, just because you have a soft spot for them? How bad does a character have to be for you to stop trying to use them- or, conversely, how much of an emotional investment do you need to get over a character being “bad”?
• FGC Pet Peeves - Is there a certain kind of behavior from other fighting game players that you just can’t stand? Obviously everyone hates scrublords/“you didn’t win” types, but beyond that; things that annoy or get to you personally. Do people try to give you advice after a win, in a way you know is in good faith, but still really pisses you off? Do you think some people are too aggressive towards newer FG players? I can see this one perhaps dipping into the generalized “fighting game etiquette” episode, which I think I recall you mentioning as an episode idea on an earlier ‘cast, but I think there could be enough there for its own thing.
• Which fighting game setting would be best/worst to live in?: I just think these kind of discussions are always fun. Obviously Mortal Kombat is pretty bottom tier, because no matter how good Ninja Mime is, it’s not worth the risk of being torn in half by a tarkatan. In street fighter, there are a ton of potentially world-conquering threats around, but they tend to get solved by a team of hero’s fairly cleanly, and if you put in the work you might be able to learn how to throw a fireball, so that’s fun. I just think it’d be fun for a goof-discussion, if that makes any sense.
• Best licensed fighting games: the Injustice series, Jojo: Heritage to the Future, Marvel Super Heroes… what fighting game has the best depiction of characters from other media? Which has the best gameplay? Do you prefer these as crossovers (I e the vs series), or as their own independent fighting game lines?
- The epitome of Archetypes: not a catchy title, I know, but I couldn’t think of anything better. Basically a discussion of what fightinng game character epitomizes a given play style or archetype the most: who is the most Shoto shoto? The most grappling grappler? The zoniest zoner? The most rushdown-y rush downer?
• Great Idea, Bad Game / Bad Idea, Great Game: you’ve discussed a little bit before about disappointing fighting game titles; games that should have been mind-blowingly good based on concept and premise, but flubbed the execution. It would be neat to see a video both on those, but also a video on hidden gems you wouldn’t expect to be good; the gem collecting and orbs in Pocket Fighter, for example, don’t sound inherently super fun, but apparently the game is great. Again, maybe these ideas could be rolled off into separate “hidden gem games” and “disappointing games”, but I figure there’s no harm in throwing it out there.
• A similar, but distinct idea: weirdest fighting game concepts. Fighting Games definitely have a massive breadth of aesthetics and themes beyond the usual “martial arts tournament” stuff; I’m looking at games like Clay Fighter, Primal Rage, Thems Fightin’ Herds, Fight of Gods, etc., and asking, “which is the weirdest in premise and character choice?”
• Inputs and/or types of input notation: I know this seems like kind of a niche discussion, but (1) y’all already did a video on sticks v controllers, and (2) I think it’s an incredibly important point for trying to get new people into fighting games. I know that when I first tried fighting games, the fact I had to do combinations of movements for certain attacks instead of just hitting a button really through me off (“in Mario, you just press b to throw the fireball, why do I have to do this motion perfectly to do it here?”), and the old arrow notation confused the hell out of me (and many others, as that viral tumblr post can attest). I recognize now I was being a dumb kid, but that doesn’t change the fact that the confusion they caused (alongside the derision of snooty older players who balked at the idea of fighting games having simpler inputs) led to me missing out on fighters for a lot of my life. Nowadays, there are a lot of fighters (most notably and obviously smash, although that’s liable to start a whole other debate) trying out simplifying command inputs - Rising Thunder (if that’s still a thing), Fantasy Strike, etc. Do you think this is a good trend and/or one that should extend to more AAA fighters instead of just indies? How much can a fighting game be simplified without losing something important/fundamental to the genre? What’s the best notation for command inputs? What’s the hardest input you’ve had to do for a fighter (pretzel motions, or something worse)?
Card fighters 2 has never been officially localized. But there are two versions of cardfighters 1, a capcom version and an SNK version. I think that might be why they’re confused here.
Love the episode and here’s hoping for more collabs between SNK and Capcom
Thanks for the clarification!

Guess what? There is coming soon, in SF6
Triple KO, bringing new meaning to the phrase "Meat Sweats" 😂
This was so interesting to watch as both Capcom and SNK have such great legacies. I would love to hear y'all's take on anime fighting games (like DBZs games, Jojo's, Jump Force, and others)!
You guys seriously made an entire episode focused on Capcom vs snk like seriously????
Thank you hell yeah 😆
I love watching this during the wildest past three months for capcom fighting game rereleases.
I f-in love this series… such a mix mash of personalities that mild together to just form fine wine over time … 10/10 love everything
A Capcom Vs Snk collection would be so good
Matt’s crazy! The mixed art styles in CvS2 was one of the best features!
I would pay good money to see my boy Antonov duking it out with Capcom characters.

Always credit and thank CvS for getting me into KoF after I saw Kyo's design in the game. As for a new game just like Max I'd love to see SNK now get to see them do the SvC Chaos game they initially wanted to do.
As someone who's played Mega Man Zero on GBA, I love that they put that Zero on SvC Chaos, I think he's the coolest
Best version of Zero in my opinion
“Meat sweats” and maxs face following that comment has me in tears.. why is he so uncomfortable lmfaoooo

Yea he wasn’t having none of that lmao 🤷🏻♂️
CvS2 was my introduction to SNK back in early 2000s. Bring back so many memories for me. Thanks guys for having this episode.
After SF2 came out I got into every fighting game that came out. Played Fatal Fury 1 and Samurai Shodown in the arcade, and had all the SNK ports on Genesis.
As a tekken player I always wanted to try and learn SF. I have recently gotten into Kof15 and I'm actually really enjoying it. I could never understand the SF combo structure.
Hahaha i feel the same way for KOF games, well the 2D. Those command lists are nutty to me.
Just press buttons bro. It ain't rocket science .......... except Virtua Fighter. That one is very technical.
Depends on the era of Street Fighter you're playing. Older games you can get away with your basic normal to special/super cancel combos and do just fine. SF4/5 is all about getting the right timing with your normal attacks to link them together before doing your special/super cancels. It's why frame data is so integral to learning SF4/5 combo theory because it basically lets you know what combos are even possible. There's more nuance obviously but this is basically the base concept.
Yeah you can just wait for SF6 honestly
Yeah I feel the same way about SF's combo structure. And I suck with the combo trials, getting the timing of those hits kills me
"hes a ghost and he writes to us: ghost writer"-jamal jenkins
And here we are
This is the second time I’ve heard Max say Card Fighter’s Clash 2 was localized when it hasn’t been. It would be awesome if it were though!
Yeah I was so confused when he said that.
The first time I saw Capcom VS SNK was in a laundry mat. There was some cabinet standing in the corner of the Laundry mat. Couldn't miss it. It was straight ahead as you entered the place. And then on the screen was Mai fighting Ryu, and I was like "what is this?". the art on the side of the cabinet was sick. I wasn't ready to see Mai.

If a CvS3 were to happen I want Thorgis hypothetical roster to be the roster we get. That roster he made was epic and I legit hope we get something like that.
Not Team Fatale Though
@@koby_mitchell Yes, Team Fatale
@@sebastiancintron29 Again I don't want that team to be a thing since when Thorgi Presented I cringed. Even though it was 3 Characters I love (Actually 2 I love and 1 i am Entoxicated with) It's just not a good team for that character I'm Entoxicated with
@@koby_mitchell good for you. I want that team. Don't care about your opinion
@@sebastiancintron29 I know you do (GFY) but that adds on a controversy regarding the characters morality where people will complain that's she's nothing but an "Evil Bitch for gets away with her crimes" so I would suggest She'd be on a more heronic team such as with Dante and her sister on Team DSMC (Darkstalkers May Cry)
We're so back🔥
The amazing thing about KOF is that it's a mega crossover between all classic SNK arcade titles like Art of Fighting, Fatal Fury, Ikari Warriors, Psycho Soldier and many more. Really wish Capcom would do its version with all the IPs it owns. So many beloved characters being wasted...
And then after KoF crawled up its own ass with an ever-increasing ratio of originals to crossover characters... SNK did an even BIGGER crossover in NGBC; characters from SNK's other golden child series, and characters too whimsical for KoF, got to shine in that.
I would gladly would take a new CvS or SvC over MvC from ever coming back.
Though I did felt that CvS2 felt more of a SF vs KoF.
CvS2 is still my all time top fighting game
mine too without a doubt
Same here, I'd take a remaster and empty my pockets
Same. The insane variety places it above 3S for me.
Same here🤜🤛
only thing missing was guy and andy
The Japanese version of Capcom VS Snk 2 on the Dreamcast was my bread and butter when I was in college. What an amazing game!
Same. I put soooooo many hours learning how to play that game.
20:03 - nothing makes me happier than to listen to my favorite nerds fumble through yet another manscaped commercial 🤣 I'll never fast forward these. I essentially consider these videos manscaped videos with a bit of fighting game talk around them
The absolute dream collection:
• Capcom vs. SNK Pro
• Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO
• SVC Chaos: SNK vs. Capcom
• SNK vs. Capcom: The Match of the Millennium
and, as a bonus...
...the original beta-test build of *Capcom Fighting All-Stars: Code Holder;* featuring brand new info about the guest character "***"!
Never stop dreaming
EO is worse than regular CvS2 iirc. Removed roll cancelling.
@@THENAMEISQUICKMAN I have never played that version. But yikes that sounds horrible. Why did they take the option away?
@@kadosho02 Roll cancelling is unintentional/a bug. But nobody wanted it gone, and it was a bad move to get rid of it. It'd be like getting rid of kara throws.
That was made by Arika so they might need to get Arika to sign off it too
This is some quality Canadian content. I rocked both of those shows when I was a kid. Hello from Nova Scotia!
If a CVS3 were to be made, the big gimmick should that every character should have a capcom mode and an SNK mode. Six buttons and mechanics capcom games are known for, or four buttons and mechanics SNK games are known for. That alone would add so much more depth to character matchups and team composition.
Here after the nintendo direct today, happy to see these games as well as mvc making a comeback :)
Is there a 2nd part were you guys talk about the characters and what moves you wanna see in a cvs3?
Oh my god, that ghost rider/ghost writer mix up. That crap caught me several times as a kid. "Oooh a ghost rider show?...10 minutes in, where's the motorcycle skeleton? What? Writer? Ugh!"
Makes a lot of sense about all the fake names in arcade credits! Never knew that.
I was playing in arcades in the SF2 era, and I did think of SNK fighters as simply SF ripoffs until SamSho and then KoF showed something fresh and exciting. I remember we took note when we realized KoF was annual.
We’re back !!!!
Thank you Justin, Matt, and Maximillian for covering this exciting news
Really hopeful that there will eventually be an new entry in to the CvS/SvC series, as Max stated one grand collection with all of the CvS/SvC related titles celebrating this fan favorite series of game would be more than welcome (TAKE MY $$$ now).
I was lucky enough to have a NeoPocket system (which I bought pretty much to play these titles) and my local arcade had 1 CvS machine which was converted to a MvC2 machine due to low traffic (guess my quarters weren't enough to keep this around). As for CvS2 I had to make a pilgrimage to Arcade Infinity in order to see that game in action since, by that time, all other local arcades had pretty much gone belly up. I invested in a Dreamcast to play the JPN version of CvSpro and was more than happy that the investment paid off when my wife got me CvS2 for Xmas (along with JoJo for matching services).
Am hopeful that SF6 will have an SNK entry and equally hopefully that we will see a Capcom entry on the "Team Guest" space for KOF XV. Would be interested to see whom else SNK is interested in collabing with (possibly Tekken now that 8 is on the horizon) especially with how often SNK and Capcom have been willing to lend out their characters recently.
Looking forward to the next episode.
Card Fighters Clash 2 hasn't been released on Switch yet. They said they would think about doing it.
Yessss! “Ghost writer” was awesome 🙏 right up there with - “Around the twist” and “spellbinder” 💪
Capcom vs snk being promoted by cvs stores would be amazing
In CvS 1 you can unlock the feature of select the ratios for each character as well as their ex versions. The CvS Pro just adds Joe and Dan and has ratios and ex unlocked from the start
Those CVS EVO posters gave me such a shock, with all the small games SNK has been publishing, something CvS related MUST happen!!
I've been playing fighting games since 1998, I'm not evo level good but they are a large chunk of my childhood and who I am. Some of the best memories I have as a child were playing 4 ratio 1 kens against my friend in cvs1, just insanely fun matches. I recently went back and watched some cvs1 videos, the music instantly brings me back there. Cvs1 is an incredibly underrated game, and cvs2 is an absolute masterpiece
Whether it's Capcom or SNK that ends up in charge of CvS3, I think we can all agree that we need to see the Akuma/Rugal hybrid as a boss.

You can definitely feel like this episode was more for themselves than anything else, because they get really in the weeds with terminology like "ratios" and "grooves" without sparing a single second to explaining what they are or how they work. It's not the worst thing, the passion is great and I'm at least a little familiar with the grooves, it's just a funny observation because this was the first episode where I was pretty lost for a lot of it with what they were talking about..
i never thought a fighting game podcast would be sustainable but you have proven me wrong, this is right up there with Joe Rogan and Cumtown
This my single most hyped possible game that could be coming. My 10 year old son has gotten into fighters and loves st and kof and when I told him about this possibly happening, you would of thought I told him Christmas was coming!
I still have my copy of CvS2 for PS2. Also, CvS Pro for PS1. I played these way more than Marvel 2. CvS wasn't my first intro to SNK but solidified me as a SNK gamer
I'm from Montreal. Someone I used to be friends with bought that copy of Capcom Vs Snk 2 from Microplay
When I worked at Chipotle, we were allowed to play our music on the restaurant speakers during prep before we opened. I played the Capcom vs SNK 2 soundtrack every day for like two months straight, and it must have been popular because nobody ever asked to play different music instead
This game is what got me into Kinu Nishimura's art. I would she say is my favorite artist
its quite fascinating that at this point people would ideally have capcom design the visuals of cvs3 but snk to design the gameplay. Back when cvs was a thing people would've wanted the opposite. SNK were so revered for their spritework that they would automatically be the pick for the graphics but capcom proved with cvs2 that they can get the gameplay right in comparison to svc chaos.
But now at least as considered by the small number of people that play both games i think its in SNK's favor that they do fighting gameplay better while capcom have been doing better visual fidelity ever since the 3d era.
(I know they don't work together on the cvs but people have been imagining what would be the best jobs to delegate to each company and team so its just funny its completely opposite to how it used to be).
Also on the subject of whether the presentation of cvs1 or 2 was better svc chaos definitely is a contender too. They literally made a sprite for every single character in the game that you only see when demitri uses a special which genderbends all the dudes and does other stuff to the girls. thats the only time you see it yet they created a whole sprite for each character. And in general game looks great.
It's so weird to go back to these after the announcement of the new MvC collection.
And I had to look it up; the match of the millennium port came out Feb 2021, then the cardfight games in Jan 2022, and THEN the 1st Fighting Collection in June 2022. So it's super likely that they've been planning on a CvS collection way longer than the MvC one.
I have no idea if I'd even like those games, but I'd be happy to play/preserve them if this keeps going as a series for Capcom.
Shoutout to JUSTIN FOR LOVING GHOST WRITER! It was a great show in the 90s
Imagine cvs3 comes out looking like a barbie dvd special kof15 style with infinite combos. FUCK THAT!
Love the cvs1 arcade stage most out of any game, recently discovered the joy of winning matches with a slow mo throw through the sliding doors.
I always liked that in CvS2 console version ..we were able to customize characters uniform and skin colors, i always wished we get these personalized character customization options in modern SF games
Matt is crazy! The mix of art was what it stood out for me. Shinkiro has a one face syndrome going on but damn I love his art. His KOF promotional art is what made me want to play KoF in the first place
Ignant RizzyI was talking to snk producer on evo ,got asked this question:
What kof char you would like to see in sf6?
Cap vs Snk 2 was and still is one of the best
Did not expect Ghost Writer and Littlest Hobo mentions out the gate 😂
Oh snap. Matt, where in Canada are you from?
I remember hanging out at my local Microplay. I thought it was a Martimes region specific store. Was it national?
About that non-crediting devs thing, it still happens today but mostly to outsourced work. I can't count how many games I'ved helped in animation with, me and the company I work with were never credited. It's a little different from hiding names through aliases but still.
I discovered CvS2 sometime around '08. It was around when SF4 was revitalizing the FG scene and when "PS3 has no games" was still a relevant meme. Decided to look at whatever previous gen games I may have missed and give them a go. Found a copy of the PS2 version on eBay for just a few bucks as it was only a few years old and it did not disappoint. #noobgroove for life!
Crazy to think that people are listing a loose disc for $40-50 these days.
Thanks for the video!
The Gamecube version is still MY Cvs2. I just use the regular inputs (not the botched EO ones) and connect my arcade stick. No roll cancels? No problem.
Thank you, Justin, good to know I wasn't the only one who watched Ghostwriter.

1:28:28 A possibility for the name thing. japanese use a combination of a syllabic systems (katakana and hiragana) and kanji. Kyo in Kanji is only one "character" 京, but could be three if written Kyo Kusanagi 草薙 京.
however, the silhouette really seemed directly taken from one specific K' artwork (KOF'02 soundtrack cover IIRC. so why three characters? They possibly, wrote K in katakana (the system used to write foreign word in japanese characters), which become Ke-I' (ケイ') to hide it better.
Also the reason why going with K' instead of Kyo or Terry is that the dude making Capcom All Star was one of the crator of K' or . he was his baby. That's why one of the OC from the game was also a partial K' expy.
I've been playing some of these games over the past few weeks and found them to be pretty good and I do have some things to say
-For CvS 3 I want to see them pull a bit more from each company's history, the rosters of the existing games lean a bit too heavily into Street Fighter and KOF. I will note how SVC Chaos does have more interesting choices like Demitri and Genjuro in its roster. I want to see some crazy inclusions so we can get matches like Super Geon vs Hauzer or Bionic Commando vs. Marco.
-I don't really like what Capcom did with Ryo in their games by utilizing his Art of Fighting style inputs instead of his more modern ones. Also, I just want to note how I hate how Ryo's zansetsuken is FBF in every game after KOF 95.
-I find that Capcom's games don't handle charge moves all that well
-As for why CvS2 is still up, I would guess the licensing deal for the rerelease didn't have an expiration date for PS3. I imagine intercompany crossovers between video game companies don't have the expiration date of most licensed games, which from what I understand is a carryover from older licensing models you would see in toys and comics.
Thing about this is that if you reuse SF6 Assets for CVS3, you already have premade models for SFIII, SFIV and Potentially SFV Groove made for a new CAPSNK Groove System for Capcom Side Characters.
Thanks for reminding me how much of a freaking 90's kid I am to get that reference, Justin.

First time I played CvS, my mom bought the Dreamcast version for me and brought it home. I kinda remember it being out of the blue, as I had no clue that Capcom and SNK even collided. I was borrowing MvC2 from a friend and was heavy on that, but once I got CvS, I just threw MvC2 across the room. I was so damn hyped! The fighting system was ehh, but I just loved the fact that SNK we're going neck and neck with Capcom (I was slowly becoming an SNK fanboy beforehand). The presentation of the game alone was bonkers! I still have my copy of that game as well as CVS2 on PS2; that game got a lot of mileage.

With the Zero thing, the GBA games were selling crazy at the time, so basically it's just advertising their current games. That Zero is sick though
Why does Matt always have his camera so close like he’s about to dramatically belt out a love song. Justin’s camera gets closer every episode too🤣
Realistically speaking, I can’t see Capcom blowing a AAA budget for a company as niche as SNK (especially these days). Outside of maybe SF guests in KoFXV, it’s either SNK making SvC2 or CvS3 being outsourced.
HEYYYYY!!! I still play the ps3 version of CVS2 wit my friends to this day. We never had problems. I can still do A-type combos with cammy and ken without any problems.
@Thorgi's Arcade , could CvS/SvC possibly be an FG Retrospective in the future? Love his videos
I want CVS 3 made by SNK with the team and budget they had to make KoF 13. And I want it in true 2D with all new art.
Wouldn't that be SvC 2?
Yeah that would totally SvC 2 and not CvS 3
Love the thumbnail. I have the same art on my arcade stick. CvS2 is my favorite fighting game and I hope a new CvS is just around the corner.
