Hello Julie and John. I stumbled across your UA-cam video because I saw your Italian adventure which is exciting! And then I recognised the familiar photos and of course remembered meeting your father in law John, at Gay's home (Lady Charteris). He is such a lovely and kind man. He took the time to come over and say hello which was comforting in a room full of strangers. My husband Richard's (Viscount Margesson) great grandmother was Betty so I guess we're distantly related through marriage. I'm a Yoga teacher like yourself. Now living back in New Zealand on Waiheke Island. Anyway, just wanted to say, I found your Italian video very entertaining!
Omg i just found this video! This is so so so fascinating! ❤❤❤ Thank you so much for your channel and videos! Would love to visit sometime in the future ❤ From Maryland, USA. 😊
Sweet Julie, I absolutely adore your passion for understanding your family’s history and all the amazing stories! What a beautiful legacy you are leaving for generations to come!
That painting of the Bridesmaids of Queen Victoria I believe I've seen on a special that Lucy Worsley did for PBS on Queen Victoria's Wedding to Prince Albert.
This is better than any formal tour with a guide! It's so intimate! Julie, you won me over when you cried over holding a lamb in your arms! P.S. I too was born in Illinois!
Watching this a year after it was recorded. Thoroughly charmed. Fascinating history. Wonderful characters and documents from the past. John and Julie are respectful caretakers of a legacy.
Lol! I was raised in Gettysburg, Pa but I married a Canadian. My husband and his family always say I talk to fast, also!!! 😆 Even though we're next door countries, cultures are different! Lots of good though!!!!
Nashville, NC. Really and truly, when you look at her face and compare it to yours, and look at her life and passion and compare it to yours, I really think that it's very likely you are her reincarnation- still on the job!! Isn't that wonderful!! ?? Stay warm! Here comes winter! What a great example of how virtuous motivation carries on thru lifetimes! Now you are not only taking care of this family's inheritance and legacy, but you have stimulated and supported the restoration and continuance of other great houses and legacies, as well as stimulated the economy of your whole area. What else could anyone say of you but "Well done! Noble daughter of noble family!"
Second time I’ve watched ( popped up again). Absolutely love how Julie fits in this family & her great respect for this family. The history keeper, John IS AMAZING too !!!!
Hi...im sitting waiting for my annual PET Scan ..I want to thank you for this live tour at this moment...its making this moment very calm..fascinating History..a big 😊 thanks.
Hello from Melbourne, Florida, USA. At about 5 minutes into this video you show a lovely picture of a group of bridesmaids and identify it as Queen Victoria’s bridesmaids. I hope this doesn’t disappoint you but that’s incorrect. Those are the bridesmaids of Princess Alexandra of Denmark who married the then Prince of Wales, Queen Victoria’s eldest son. But you were correct that Lady Agneta York (future Countess of Sandwich and Alberta’s MIL) was one of those bridesmaids. I haven’t (yet) been able to find any identification of the individual ladies but I’ll keep looking.
I have just watched this little film for the first time and the image of the "bridesmaids" caught my eye and attention ! I recall seeing it before, though a long time ago, but I think this image is of the bridesmaids of the (then) Alexandra of Denmark, after the wedding became Princess of Wales, then in 1901 become Queen Alexandra. I did read the list of the names of the bridesmaids, but since that was many, many years ago, I have forgotten them all. But of course they were members of the aristocracy that also had stellar reputations and were selected by Queen Victoria. Now, I am not sure from who's wedding these "bridesmaids" came from, hopefully someone more informed can enlighten us, though I believe they are Alexandra's ! ?
Ciao Julie, l started to watch and follow you about One month ago out of curiosity. Since the beginning l 've found your voice clear and noce, percfect to improve my English, so l decided to keep going. I am really enjoing every single episode, especially the One you are in Tuscany ,in Forte dei marmi to buy some tiles for your kitchen. My mother in law Is a schoolmate of the owner of that shop and l live closeby in Livorno on the cast. You and Luke are very welcomed to visit me at any time. Congratulations you are doing an amazing job 👏💪
Love this Show ! Listen: Going forward, I am creating a new Rule: Everyone archives their own documents. That way the burden doesn't fall on the upcoming generations to do this important task !!!!
Same thing for cleaning out the house! My mother's greatest fear was that my grandparents (my father's parents) would die before they managed to "trim back" their house and basement. They were of the Depression era, so they saved absolutely EVERYTHING, just this side of hoarding! Alas, my mother's fears came true, as my grandparents became ill and had to go into a nursing home rather quickly, so the dirty work fell on my immediate family! :-(
It’s interesting how much Luke is into sailing, a family tradition. I saw a video of an old program, Truth or Consequences, and it seems that your Father-in- Law was on the show!
Oh my goodness - there are film series to create from your family history! I have donated previously to show my support of your weekly efforts to share your home and personal history....I am thinking there will be more of my US dollars to come. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Cheers
Julie, what do you think about getting some editorial assistance and writing up a biography of Alberta's life and adventures? I 'm sure we'd all love to know more about her times and experiences. 💖 Thanks again to you and your charming papa in law for this interesting presentation
Did we get to see a photo of the Earl's _mother?_ Alberta looks to be the perfect blend of both parents, I noticed. LOVE Nestor's full name, so distinguished!
Love this series about you Julie and albertas kindness ! I am an artist who paints Princess Diana , love her and royalty ! I have experience in curatorial skills and do practice yoga 🧘♀️. I would love to help at some point and paint the grounds ! Thank you for the uplifting and charming series ! Thank you 🙏❤️🌹
So much beautiful history! Faith looks like my mother when she was in her 20's! We're related so I guess that's how- many generations later. Wonderful photos and memories for all of you! Thank you for sharing 😊❤️!
Alberta's story is very interesting. How wonderful to have all those letters to archive. My parents were married on September 7th.Thanks again for a wonderful video.Love from Vermont
It beautiful to learn about my cousins who married into the family Alberta mother Bessie and aunt Josie! Wow! And cousin Agneta Harriet Yorke! Wow so much pictures and personal! My 4th GGF Joseph Starbuck Hussey 6th cousin 6 time’s removed. My Montagu families /Nantucket families traveling the ocean and coming to me in the making of the Hawai’i Kingdom. My ancestors is guiding me to my forefathers of England! Didn’t know this until I was lead here to my cousins, who love there history like me. From my search today I was shown, the 6 Earl wife is your tie to Henry Cromwell Oliver is my by papa, who married my Bromley family , Robert’s son is Oliver defender of England. And your Grandma is Elizabeth! Thank you for listening to the spirit to share your wisdom. You are making them alive and they are happy when you say they’re names and teaching us there legacy! Much love from Hawai’i nei.
The Sturgess/Leggets were very important in the LIfe of Swami Vivekananda. Josephine Mcleod, Alberta aunt' along with Sara Chapman Bull (Mrs. Ole Bull) were instrumental in formation of the Belur Math. Alberta and her brother Hollister were well acquainted with Swami Vivekananda. Josephine Mcloed settled in Stafford on Avon. Once Hollister was asked whether he wanted to become monk, he said know he wanted to marry, Swami Vivekananda said its upto you my dear boy, you chose the harder path. You should do a episode on Leggets and Vivekananda. Swami Vivekananda was and still is a colossuss
Interesting info. Wonderful source of historic info. Watching - a year late- from NYC. It’s a small world. Not far from present day Penn Station location (opened 1910) and Macy’s Harold Square and the Empire State Bldg which went up in the early 1900s. In the late 1800s this was barely on the map since NYC was in lower Manhattan at that time. You can look at maps from the period at the main New York Public Library and also census data from that period.
I would love to see a table setting! Or possibly a table set for a holiday or birthday celebration! Maybe even tea time with the wonderful historic teacups etc
Amazing picture of her swami. I love him so much! There is a museum about his life in Ganges Michigan. It has the tea set there that he drank from with his dear friends who found him on the day he got lost before speaking at the UN!
Please put all the LINKS you talked about in your main comments on this video! That way everyone is just a click away from helping support this wonderful historic home!
I’ve only recently found this channel. I love how knowledgeable you are as a family and the records you have. It must be fascinating to come across records for the first time. I also love how you present this and remember to remind us who people are in relation to John as you return to talking about them. Great presenting skills especially as it was live!
Thank you so much Julie for explaining connecting information between the stories! I was very frequently lost because I didn't know what they were talking about in the previous episode.
Mary Faith looks so much like my mother when she was younger! So beautiful! ❤️ Amazing! She is my 10th cousin! Thank you for sharing these stories and history!
I really hope someone very important in the movie business sees this so maybe Alberta's life can be made into a t.v series or movie. How amazing would that be! 😍
Well, there was a series on PBS called "the Buccaneers," that was about all the American high society women that came to England in the 1800s in order to marry into the Aristocracy!
Oh how I wish I lived nearby. I'd be honored to help you with the photo albums or any help you needed. I find this so very interesting and would love to be a part of it all.

If I hadn’t already become fond of the Earl from the videos, I would have done so after hearing him say Alberta was tender-hearted because she was American.
To OWN that the grandmothers family once owned slaves is very important for me to hear after watching these videos because we cannot skip or erase the past. It is ever present today👌🏾✨ keep up the work guys✨
I think you could be able to sell ebooks of Alberta's diaries and Mapperton Moments and other things that you have as fund raising efforts. I tried to buy Mapperton Moments and it could not be sent to Canada. Sad for all. But ebooks would be great to buy I think! I love your videos especially with your in laws!
There is also in California a City of Holister south of San Francisco. When I first learned of that name it was when I was a student specializing in California history that had as a very heavy influence in naming placing the spread of the railroads. The Southern Pacific had a tendency to name depot stops (stations along the routes) the last names of those associated with it including family members, politicians, prior land owners along the routes. I am not cetain but would not be surprised if a Holister had some connection to settling a bit of California and its railroads. If USA students are doing their Semester in London prior to graduating with their BA and looking to go to graduate school how difficult should it be to work out with some MLIS program being the sponsor of a semester study project as you are just a hop and skip from the schools there? Even when I was going to school there was the emerging field of Public History Archivists, those archivists not planning on getting into the university or government system libraries and instead being part of the environmental and historical studies occupations. Especially with those that might concentrate on photographic preservation and conservation.
Did anyone think of the Bingley sisters in Pride and Prejudice when the earl said Alberta's family got their money from trade? I'm sure he didn't mean any disparagement to his own grandmother. I just think it's interesting the different ways people happen upon wealth.

I just love that man John! He is wonderful and I love listening to him.
Alberta was a hottie. So sweet your father in law has a flower in his lapel. Dashing😊
Julie, y’all are sooooo blessed to still have you father-in-law, he is a wealth of history. Cherish and take good care of him 😍😍😍

Watching this a year after it was recorded. Thoroughly charmed. Fascinating history. Wonderful characters and documents from the past. John and Julie are respectful caretakers of a legacy.
Lol I like it when your father-in law talks. Us Americans tend to rush when we talk.
I didn't want to seem rude, but yes, she rushes everything. I don't know why she is treating the interview as some sort of reality tv show.
Lol! I was raised in Gettysburg, Pa but I married a Canadian. My husband and his family always say I talk to fast, also!!! 😆
Even though we're next door countries, cultures are different! Lots of good though!!!!
This episode Julie, is fantastic and will be so precious for your children. Fascinating also for us listening...

Maybe your comment led to the future video where The Earl, John, appeared on To Tell the Truth and was called out by Kitty Carlisle after the show.
Pretty Cool that story about the two Nun's. And very cool to live in a place with such history.
I love hearing about Alberta! Amazing stories! Thank you so much for sharing her life! I could listen to both of you for hours!
Love watching you and John from Winter Haven FL...Alberta was a beautiful woman. Thanks for all you do, my bucket list is to come for a visit.
Edith Wharton has a wonderful novel The Buccaneers on the rush of American beauties with money to England for husbands with title.

I do hope the Earl is feeling better now.
John is much better, thank you for asking 😊
The variety of skills and amount of energy required to run a manor must be extraordinary.
I have just today for the first time watched a couple of your videos. Is it me or does the young Alberta look like you Julie??

How fascinating. I could listen to this all day! I would love to be an archivist and comes to sort everything out. Thank you 😊

That's Luke, the son of this earl. 🙂
Sending sunshine from Bora Bora !
Great video and love the History.

Love your videos from San Antonio Texas.

Again just brilliant.
Canada has been watching too..
I had dinner at the Queen Mary, yes it is in Long Beach California.

Hello from Alberta, Canada
Julie, you must have a Portrait made! ♥️♥️
Seems that the men in that family had wonderful taste in women & looked at the wellbeing of the family for the future. You are such a gem Julie. We who follow the British Royals have seen the catastrophe of a bad choice & how destructive and shameful a marriage can be & by listening to episodes such as this one, can envision how far into the future those tentacles of the bad decision will reach.
So are you related to your husband? ☺️ my mom has written a history and somethings she remembers is not how I remember that so I’ve made notes to my recollection in the page notes. I’m glad I found your videos today.
GREAT SHOW! 🙏🙏🙏
British Columbia, Canada is also watching !
Yes I’ve have visited the Queen Mary as it’s it local to me.
This is so awesome. Love the video. Susen Jarvis. Salt Lake City Utah.
Julie are you archiving your own current history for future?
That’s so important. Julie is awesome. I hope she’s writing a diary.
Excellent!
COVID-19 is the perfect time to roll up the sleeves & start organizing the photo albums & archiving... dedicate 1 hr per day.
Look at Agnita in the portrait and should be able to reasonably match up to one of the ladies in that group picture.
