    Hi Kayla...just wanted to thank you for posting your trip! Such a flood of wondetful memories it triggered.
    I had the incredible good fortune of spending the entire summer (1968 or '69) camped in my small tent at Cascade Pass as the " Cascade Guard" for the Forest Service ( this before it became the National Park).
    My patrol area ranged from Cache Col, Trapper Lk, Pelton Basin down towards Stehikin, up the Doubtful Lk drainage ( a real buswhack), up Sahale Arm, and over into Boston Basin.
    So many, many experienes and encounters...again, I was able to relive some of them thru seeing "my old stomping grounds", thanks to you.
    I'll be 80 in a few months and kinda think I will never again make it up there, thus your film made it happen for me.
    Thank you, and keep on hiking!

    I first hiked to Cascade Pass and beyond with my wife of 50 years in 1974. I hiked up Sahale Arm again in 1987. It is truly spectacular!!

    Stunning scenery great info! Glad it has an out house of sorts. Cute marmots and goats. Glad the bear was really into plants.

      Thanks! I was glad the bear was more interested in the plants, too. Haha

    Ack, I just spotted an editing error with the scene transition in the middle of the video. Ignore that. It bothers me (and probably only me) but I don't want to re-upload this huge video file again 😅😜

    The mountain goats remind me of an Olympic National Park backpack trip over High Divide then The off-trail Bailey Range Traverse finishing with Skyline Route and Quinault rainforest hike in 11 days. In The Bailey Range we had 10 mountain goats in our camp for an hour. It was eventful!!

      Sounds like an awesome trip!! I've heard about High Divide, but haven't been there yet!

    My experiences with mountain goats are that if you walk towards them at about 8’ they stomp their feet like a warning. But if you stand still and wait for them they will walk within 4’ and then quickly cross by looking over their shoulder to see what you are going to do-just stand still.

    All the times I have hiked the area it was just fill out the permit at the trailhead. Of course, that was in the 1970s, 1980s. I have been backpacking when I was 16 when “man first walked on the moon “.

    Kayla kamping with the goats...thanks for the great scenery footage. No fishing though?

      Didn't fish this time! There's Doubtful Lake up there, but it's a 600ft elevation drop out of the way, and the hike was already kicking my butt without going out of my way to the lake. Hoping to get out for some high lake + trout fishing adventures this weekend though! :)

    Genuine question out of interest in how the rules work in USA. I'm not intending to use this information to break any laws but if a tourist was hiking and wildcamping in this area without a permit what happens to them if caught?

    • @kayla_sulak
      @kayla_sulak  4 місяці тому

      @@adamcraig1468 worst case scenario, you could get issued an expensive fine if they catch you
